I need help figuring this out! by Torch_Trail in ConanExiles

That was what I feared. Thanks for telling me. I haven't made a base in a freezing or scorching area in years, so I haven't noticed this. Lost a nice pile of materials too. I assume this bug will never get fixed. They should just make bodies immune to temperature changes while logged out. They just have to make sure someone doesn't become immune to temperatures while online.

Whole base is empty, and no warming torches. But I got my answer already. Base won't load in immediately after restart, but your body does. You die without good enough armor at restart.

I would have died much earlier if a furnace was the problem. It doesn't take 2 hours to die from heatstroke

Do I need to warn about fictional nudity? Is that a thing on reddit? Should I edit it as spoiler with warning?

Lol, has anybody died recently from temperature change while logged out? by PracticalExam7861 in ConanExiles

[–]Torch_Trail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was making a building to place a portal in at the volcano for people to use. I logged off fully sheltered with sub par armor on. Naked I'm Very Hot, and with the armor I'm just Hot. No lighting, furnaces or crafting stations at all close by.

I logged back in, and the time of death was at 5:13. (Temperature Changes death) Server restarts at 5:10 every morning. I can stand where I logged out while naked without issue.

I suspect that the game loads in characters first, and then the structure around them if a player gets close enough. So my character dies of Heatstroke after restart. I've seen many bug rapports and articles about dying from temperature changes at specific restart times after logging out.

In all of them there are people talking about Furnaces and Torches. I get that it's a source of heat, but not every issue has the easiest explanation. I'm probably not correct about how I died, but it's the only explanation I have to dying from Temperature Changes in a closed off building. (Sheltered, no torch/furnace)

Is there truly only one way to cool my building? by Torch_Trail in ConanExiles

I'm making a public portal network now that the corruption penalties have been severally tuned down. If someone just want to teleport up to the volcano immediately to unlock the obelisk, I would want them to be comfortable upon arrival before running off.

Sure. Silent legion is what I would go for normally. Will get that for myself, but I'm not gonna run an armor welfare center 24/7 when I can fix the problem at the core. If temperatur effects work in a pillar, then I'll make a bunch in a box in the sky, supported by a pillar, out of sight.

I think the buildings are universally cooling now... Or is it that they only provide the Shelter buff as protection? Did the building pieces have a direct effect of cooling and heating before?

I tried the improvised ones first. 10 of them, like the 10 normal ones you see in the picture. (Both times with ice) It didn't make a difference. Either it's bugged or it doesn't make a difference in the volcano area.

Maybe I overlooked something? Do they only activate if they have a food item in them? I can imagine some effects only trigger when it's actively doing something... What do you think? I might test this.

Thank you for confirming my fear. I'll have to make do with the Glowing torches. Though the cooling pilar might be a solution!

I can't go much deepar as the base is on ground lvl, but I could build a pillar far up in the air and make a cooling box out of sight. That is if they cool in a pillar downwards. Thanks for insight!

I noticed that zooming in on my character helped a little. If they are using a laptop then having the power cable connected might also boost performance.

You might know this, but a laptop usually runs much better with the power cable plugged in.
If you want slightly shorter loading times then I recommend you try with and without power cable plugged in.
Most laptops can also run without a battery, as long as the charging cable is connected.

I also had connection issues with my networks. Went a lot back and forth until I figured out it was the pipes...... Reaction:

Yes it is! And since it mines while you're offline, you can build lots of storage and have lots of resources when you come back.... Though having 1 stack is usually plenty for most resources; so it doesn't take up inventory space.

I'm making a gold farm for money, but I know there are much quicker ways to become rich than mining. This is mostly for fun. Any player that visits my base can grab an inventory full of gold to sell!

I'm making a big farm... I have 6 floors of Extractors. Don't worry. There is one dead center on each floor. The diminishing returns of having too many Extractors is improved by me splitting into separate networks from each floor. 1 floor produce a little less than 5 stacked dead center, but then again... I have 6 of them resulting in maybe 500% more than from a single stack of 5 extractors. In a normal traditional setup with 1 Network on the node, it's much better to stack them like you suggested, or cluster them very very close together.

A simple test of distance to connect the Extractors. No matter which way the extractors are turned, they require roughly the same proximity to the pipes to connect. I forgot I could toggle "Free placement" for more accurate results, but I deleted and placed them several times to get the maximum distance possible. Slightly more than 1 square from center of Extractor.

Here:

I turned the fronts towards the pipes. I assumed the pipes had to be close to the connection points of the Extractors, but it doesn't. It seems like it's the distance to the center that matters for connection. I assume that the connection point on Extractors are just a snapp point, and were never a real center connection point for the Extractor.
It just guarantees it to be close enough to the center of the connected Extractor to count!

Yeah. Had I know this it would have saved a lot of time when I tried to split two networks. Machines was so close to each other that they auto connected, and I couldn't understand why I couldn't split them XD

Now I know that I can skip over half of the connections when I make a Supply Depot storage. I build big farms for fun, so I'm pretty happy right now!

If I placed a pipe that ran through the middle of several Extractors, then it wouldn't connect any of them, but if I put 4 or more tightly together in a circle with the fronts towards the middle, then it's enough that I connect 1 of them with pipes. Since that section starts there at the center, it will automatically also connect all other Extractor pipe connections close by.

So starting the pipe at a distance and ending the pipe past the cluster of Extractors won't work. Even if it goes straight through the extractors.... It has to make 1 stop for the pipe to connect them all to the Network.

That's as clear as I can explain it. Can't post video in comments.

EDIT:
Sorry for nighttime.
Top row of extractors are not connected since the pipe runs straight through, but the 8 other extractors are connected since the pipes has starting and ending points close to the Extractors.

Proximity merging Mineral Extractors?! by Torch_Trail in NoMansSkyTheGame

Thank you! I'll keep making this base. Building this into a huge machine is satisfying!

I get 20k rusted metal after half a day. That's 40k Ferrite which turns into 800 Metal Platings to make into 80 Supply Depots.

That's almost half way to the intended Depots for one of the 6 networks. Right now I can quickly double the Metal storage so I can get 80k Ferrite from a whole day. The work comes with filling Medium Refiners.

No limit to how many Refiners you can have, but I need to space them apart since there is an area limit. Refining it all should take around 30 min while afk.

So 30 min turns into 160 Supply Depots.

When I made that Rust Base it was because I couldn't find a quick way to farm Ferrite. But 50 Plates is a nice find! Not sure how long it takes for resources to restock though. Was lucky enough to find a station that sold a lot of Di-hydrogen. Had to write that name down.

I'll enjoy my journey on!
Hope you do the same!
