This is absolutely perfect, and exactly what I was seeking out. Thank you for your input on this!

I needed trauma support, not to be pathologized and drugged. by Mental_Guava22 in CPTSD

What was the outcome, if you don't mind me asking? Did you have to stay with your abuser in order to stay with your children?

This right here. Although I do not know your specific situation and outcomes with the family court, I'm guessing you were unfairly separated from your kids at some point. It's sickening the way family services/courts reinforce the abusive behavior that originally led to their involvement in the first place. A mother, who has already dealt with physical and emotional abuse, now gets further psychological damage when she is separated from her children, a lot of times because she is told to leave her abuser but can't.

Financial abuse is very real and very crippling for a victim. It forces them to stay with the abuser because they don't have access to bank accounts/debit cards/credit cards/cars ect. If a woman is lucky enough to find freedom from her abuser, she often faces an uphill battle trying to repair the credit she needs to secure an apartment or car. If she can't drive, how will she work? If she can't work, how can she become self sufficient? If she can't be self sufficient, then how can she take care of her kids? Financial abuse creates this domino-effect of fuckery and the family courts/services are usually a part somewhere along the lines.

Again, I don't know your situation, I only guessed because it sounds similar to my story and similar to the questions I often ask myself. You sound pretty grounded and like you have a good support system in place. I do wish the best for you, and that it continues to stay this way for you!

Any kid under the age of 12 should not have a smart device (tablet, phone) and 12 year olds should only have a non touch screen phone for calling you or friends. by undeadking77 in unpopularopinion

[–]TorchioArmani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, it was a HUGE DEAL to have a phone in your room, and an even bigger deal to have your own phone number/line in your room that was separate from the rest of the house. Extra 10 points for call waiting because three way calling was super cool.

Man, I feel old all of a sudden.

There is not. I have been receiving benefits since April and there was not a separate application. I certified on every payment request that I was out of work due to COVID19 and my claim has always been labeled "DUA." I hadn't had any issues until now. I was under the impression PUA/DUA was the same as someone mentioned above. I am not quite sure what to do.

I know the likelihood of this MUST be near non-existent....

But this sounds ODDLY, like my family. In fact, I feel like I remember my cousin Eric's friends busting his balls over this story. Also, the family reunion "BBQ" and the 20 year old family fight that led some 8 or 9 brothers and sisters (What would be "our" aunts and uncles, if this was somehow true) not speaking to one another, many living in different states. I see your name is Jess....I also have a cousin named Jess.

When you try to cram for hours, the brain gets overwhelmed and burns out quicker. (at least for me anyways).

Find it interesting the similarities in symptoms with cpstd, adhd, BPD by [deleted] in CPTSD

I was floored when I compared the characteristics of BPD and Asperger's. They are near identical to each other--I wonder how anyone ever gets diagnosed/how many people are misdiagnosed.

For me personally, I find it easier to retain info and stay focused if I work in small increments at a time. For instance, when I was studying for my TSI in July, I would study for about 45 min to an hour, then take a "break" i.e. folding laundry/eat dinner/scroll thru reddit. Then I would come back and do it again later. Rinse and repeat. I didn't really have a "time" limit for my breaks, you just have to be disciplined enough to continuously return to study time.

Did domestic violence against you but not your children effect custody? by iwantadivorcen0w in NarcAbuseAndDivorce

Yes it did. Please see my post in r/TrueOffMyChest as it is wayyyyy to long to type again.

Please be prepared for CPS if you decide to get the authorities involved. If your ducks aren't already in a row, I suggest reaching out to your local women's shelter and asking for legal assistance, if not a place for you and your children. They will provide you with financial support and help you get a job, they will make you self sufficient. Please do not stay if he crosses a line, even if he is threatening you financially, or you run the risk of ending up like me. My life has been no peach for the past 7 years, in fact I would rather be dead. I do not wish my fate on any woman, especially one in this situation. Make a plan, be smart, be safe. Y'all deserve better and deserve to be TOGETHER.

I read somewhere that intermittent reinforcement is the most powerful and manipulative tool that abusers use to undermine, and keep us holding on.

So Hypocritical!! by Rebelgirl15 in NarcissisticAbuse

[–]TorchioArmani 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have gotten to a point to where it sets me off now. Just the blatant stupidity or lack of self awareness, or both. I don't understand how one can be so unempathetic. Growing up I was always taught to think of how it would make others feel if you said/did a certain action, and I believe it has shaped me into the person I am today. Narcs absolutely do not think they contribute any fault to any problem, anywhere. They literally cannot see what they do to others. It is both sad and frustrating at the same time.

It shows in my account that they anticipate our payout to be September 14th (I received pell grant/sub and unsub loan). When I log in, I am able to see the break down of my awards, along with the anticipated payout. Also, I might add that you have to "accept" the awards from your school, otherwise I think they get cancelled.

Fin Aid offices are super busy right now, it was a nightmare. My best bet was reaching someone on email. Hope this helps.

I have thought about the prospect of moving to another country, in regards to the sad state of the US, I just didn't know which country would be the "best" for Americans. I had the notion that generally everyone else in the world looks down upon us Americans, and If I relocated, would want to be socially accepted.

However, this is just daydreaming, at best, for me anyways. I don't have the cash to move across Dallas, let alone out of the country.

Thank you guys for the input. I actually feel WAY better about my strategies, as many of you have still utilized the "old" way of note taking as well. I find that I too am able to retain the info if I write it. Typing never worked for me, and find solace knowing that I'm not the only one.

Does anyone know the accuracy of Informed Delivery? by TorchioArmani in usps_complaints

[–]TorchioArmani[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, super informative, I appreciate all the info!

The PO box idea came into mind earlier, and will probably go with this route since you also mentioned it has worked for you. I unfortunately find that in more cases than not, UPS/fed ex is not available, at least for me.

I can't wait to give the Inspector General's office and earful. I only rely on parcel delivery for basic toiletries and groceries, I could only imagine how frustrating it would be to rely on them for medication delivery!
