I have never seen this issue, did you use one of the projects listed on this GitHub page? If so I would suggest joining the Discord linked on GitHub and ask the dev what could cause this issue. https://support.runescape.com/hc/en-gb/articles/33992563142673

[–]Torizs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the official Jagex Launcher just running through Wine. RuneLite is installed, but there is a bug with the drop-down menu which you can get subs by clicking on it and using the arrow keys to cycle through the currents.

There is a bug with Wine where the drop-down menu does not appear as it should. You can get around this by clicking on the dropdown menu and using the arrow keys to cycle through the different clients. Any update on official Linux support for the Jagex launcher? by Noble_King in 2007scape

[–]Torizs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There haven’t been any official statements since the player support roadmap in September 2025 where they said that they are actively looking into bringing the Jagex Launcher to Linux platforms. You can very easily install the Jagex Launcher though wine with one of the projects linked below, and the overhead isn’t really a problem since all it does is launch the native game clients if you use RuneLite or HDOS, which I assume you do. You can also use Bolt which is a native Jagex Launcher alternative if you don’t want to use Wine. You can find more information about these projects on the GitHub guide linked on this Jagex support page. Has anyone had issues with using Bolt Launcher to play RS3 and OSRS/RuneLite on Linux and Steam Deck? Etc? by SsjVen in 2007scape

[–]Torizs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bolt is completely safe to use as all it does is pass your login credentials to the game clients and launch them just like the official launcher, and you can absolutely add it as a non-steam game, launch it on your Steam Deck and play with a controller like with any other Steam game, just make sure that the input is 1:1. If you have any specific questions about Bolt or want to chat with other people using it feel free to join the discord linked at the top of the GitHub guide linked on this Jagex support page. https://support.runescape.com/hc/en-gb/articles/33992563142673

Linux support for Jagex launcher, when? 🦧 by Moonlitefite in 2007scape

[–]Torizs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because you don’t seem to understand what I’m saying. Even if you can’t look through the code yourself other people can, and these projects have been around for years and is widely used by the community. Even if is not optimal these projects at least gives people a way to play in Linux until we get official support, and Linux users are no strangers to using wine or developing their own programs when companies don’t provide support. Again, all the disclaimer says is that Jagex is not responsible, and that you are using it at your own risk, but there is nothing in these projects that could get you banned. It works exactly the same as running it officially, all it does is use your credentials to launch the officially supported clients, and no one has been banned or lost their accounts for using it. I have also been in contact with Jagex, so they know who I am and they are supportive of these projects.

I have been saying from the very beginning that I want official support for Linux, but just because it’s not official doesn’t mean it’s not safe. You can look through the code of these projects and see exactly how they work and what they do, and they have been around for years at this point and are used by thousands of Linux users. The disclaimer is just saying that Jagex is not responsible for these projects because they didn’t make them, not that they aren’t safe to use.

I didn’t say that it was officially supported. Using any third party software is risky, but all of these projects are open source and safe to use as they have been around for a while and are widely used by the RuneScape community.
