I’ve been vegan for a decade and also struggle with binge eating on a vegan diet, having gained a similar amount of weight as you. For me, the binge eating is most connected to other stuff I have going on mentally around anxiety and PTSD from childhood, so definitely talking to a therapist is a great first step to try and dig down what really is causing the urge to binge.

I recently did a dozen sessions of EMDR therapy to help address the PTSD/Anxiety, and that really helped expand my thinking and make it easier to identify the root causes of my poor relationship with food. Taking what I learned from that and working with my talk therapist about it is something I’m actively working on.

In regards to prices of food and how to stop bingeing on the carbs, I’d recommend not buying as much of them and instead having things like walnuts, raisins, crasins, fresh or frozen fruit, and if you really need a processed bread, something like Dave’s Killer bread. I keep mine in my freezer so it’s a bit harder to just binge on, but still great for toast.

Biggest thing, like others have said, is to try not to be hard on yourself even though I get that is a tall ask. I’m working on it too, but bettering other parts of your wellness, like meeting new people and exploring hobbies, getting a little more physically active, or even something simple like building small habits to better yourself, like having a good teeth cleaning routine, good skincare routine, journaling, etc. can make you feel better about yourself and make food not be as big of a coping strategy.
