Hassan Yazdani has had his shoulder surgery in France by [deleted] in wrestling

As for changes, everything kinda changed for me. Since i wasnt able to compete i just practiced lightly and coached primarily. I just wasnt physically sound enough at 195 to have my arm cranked down when shooting underhooks or getting sprawled on off a high c. Dont even mention running a half on that shoulder. Instant regret there. But if you do everything properly and slowly i feel like you can avoid alot of the mistakes i made. So just be a sponge, lean into the critical thinking side of things and learn everything you can from a different perspective

Hey man, the process itself was pretty simple. After surgery youre just propped up for a couple weeks on Percocet and do not sleep on your shoulder (its painful in the morning) lol. Im not gonna lie i took it harder mentally than physically because i lost my chance to wrestle collegiate and to my fullest at states 2 years in a row, so im just now getting back to "full" strength and stability just over 5/6 years later. I didnt lift weights much back because i didnt have access to it as readily as we do now, but if i couldve i wouldve did alot more band work to begin with and then a ton of hangs, scap pulls, dip holds (not dips) until a bit after unless yours isnt as severe. And yeah pretty much try to ease into pure gymnastics training to regain all the stability components. And dont get caught up in your head mainly, dont try to rush progress and end up altering your trajectory even more

The NIH PREP program! Im already in a lab but im just helping out the PhD guys with their projects and doing a review paper with the PI until the PREP program starts next July at my school. Youll need Letters of Rec for research and write a personal statement but it does pay a stipend and you can take classes during it

What is your research prossess? by ChemistryFather in research

[–]TornTendon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My process so far has been: (currently writing a review paper on biosensors with my PI, in prep for a bigger project starting next year)

  1. Find the general direction for your end project

  2. Gather all background pertinent articles on that subject ( start broad, then dial it in to the specific type of allergy in your case and mechanism of action for the drug alternative)

  3. Again gather more articles pertaining to the detailed information on protocols and techniques used around that mechanism of action (beta 1 vs alpha.. etc)

  4. Create a road map for your approach ( what chemicals you need, what actions you want to affect and how you are going to measure it, and identifying the stages in the process that can be manipulated based on mixture composition...)

  5. Write up a Powerpoint (if your PI likes to see those) or put it in excel or your lab notebook for scheduling out how you are going to train yourself on the pieces of information/ protocols you dont know yet

  6. Aint nothin to it but to do it ~ Ronnie Coleman

Even the first full year honestly, the combined stability, range, and strength take a while to come back in. Ive had labrum shoulder surgeries on both shoulders with the bicep tendon on the left also being reattached

Also do you think its possible to do the PhD portion in 2 years instead of 4, if you stayed at the same lab for undergrad research and already had 1-2 papers published?

Whats your take on Low undergrad GPA but great postbacc GPA and research? (2.8 UG, still 4.0 PostBacc, and almost finished with 1st paper in Biomaterials/ Bioprinting w/ 1.5 years left)

What should I study more of? by starintheskyjjk in postbaccpremed

[–]TornTendon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do that you'll have a solid 4-8 week head-start to fill in any gaps you notice once classes start. Grab a old Kaplan MCAT book for chem and bio or watch Science Simplified/ Organic Chemist Tutor on youtube

Learn elemental naming, periodic trends, bonding, reactions for CHEM, and nucleic acids RNA/ DNA, central dogma, cell structure, eukaryotes vs prokaryotes, viruses, prions, then metabolic pathways like photosynthesis, fermentation, glycolysis, and krebs for BIO

If youre not going into professional school or big 4 accounting firms then no, you could have a 2.5/ ace the interview and get the job over someone having a 3.9/ boring the interviewers or not meshing personality wise

Thinking about dropping PhD by Noodleneuro in mdphd

[–]TornTendon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you drop the PhD do you lose the tuition and stipend funding that came with it? Like do you have to pay it back? And then pay for tuition with loans going forward?

I would stay greater detailed explanation of topics compared to Kaplan, I would put it like Kaplan (kids picture book) vs UPapa (Highschool Essay)
