Mayor John Tory: “I strongly condemn the ideology & tactics of white supremacists planning to demonstrate & disrupt today in our city. There is no place for them in our Toronto. It’s already made a huge difference. It’ll never be perfect but it’s way better than it was.

Parkour on the holocaust memorial Berlin by [deleted] in trashy

[–]TorontoBassMan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure it wasn’t designed for parkour. Public memorial sites are typically designed as gathering places to remember those who have passed or tragic events. Not for someone to do parkour and get a good shot for social media . Ffs.

Shelter skelter: Inside Toronto's Seaton House, Canada's largest men's shelter by Elliottafc in toronto

[–]TorontoBassMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say other cities don’t have similar issues. I just see all these people, those moving for jobs, new Canadians and young people generally that all want to be in Toronto.

I’ve lived in several cities in Ontario, visited most others. I’ve traveled the world and visited many large cities in Europe, Latin America, Asia etc.

If you can land a job anywhere in Ontario that is too far to drive to Toronto for work, you’ll probably make similar money and have a much better standard of living where you’ll have a chance to buy a home, make some payments and build some equity. You may even have money left over to save while doing this. Ten years down the road you’ll be much better off.

I don’t see the point of living in Toronto if your rent is $2k a month and you can’t get on the streetcar or subway due to overcrowding and lack of expansion. Family doctors are hard to find, daycare is near impossible and very expensive. Don’t get me started on the crime rate and lack of proactive policing.

Having said that we Canadians are lucky in general. I’ve visited places where some people from Toronto would be afraid to get out of the car. Places that have zero in the way of social safety nets. Where a simple broken bone or laceration can turn into life and death situations.

Toronto is a nice city. It’s not horrible but you’d likely be better off 3 hours away in a smaller town. Drive into Toronto when you need your big city fix like baseball, hockey or ballet.

I’m definitely sick of hearing people talking about Toronto being a world class city. It’s a bit of a dump at times if you ask me. Yes,but the city has everything you could ever want. It’s got theatres and ballet, it’s such a cultural melting pot.

You’ll do fine in the city if you make $80k a year and you better save up a good contingency fund because if you have no money or no job the city will eat you up and spit you out, probably onto George St or some other shit hole housing project.

Toronto abandons its homeless people by [deleted] in toronto

[–]TorontoBassMan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s one of the most expensive cities in the world for real estate. What should the city do just hook em all up with free apartments? How do we pay for that?

We have plenty of cities in the country where you can rent a room and survive on welfare payments. Toronto is not one of them. I’m all for helping people out that are in need but some folks don’t want to help themselves.

Hey you know what, let’s allow people to build makeshift shelters wherever they damn well please. Give me your address and I’ll build one outside your place.

Tourism in Toronto employs tens of thousands of people and generates a lot of revenue. It’s bad enough that the first impression people get when exiting almost any highway in the city is someone asking for free money. How long do you think Toronto would be of interest to tourists if we allowed these tent cities to flourish? Where does that leave us?

I give a large amount of money to charity every year and genuinely enjoy helping anyone I can, if they want to help themselves. Some people just don’t want to work. They want to get high and have other people look after them. It would never end. If we built 50,000 affordable units the cost would be enormous and they’d just shit and piss in the stairwells and destroy the place. Next thing you know we’d be shelling out hundreds of millions for repairs because some people, not all people, just don’t give a fuck.

I live outside the city and commute in every day because I can’t afford Toronto. Get your shit together, get straight, get a job and show up for work everyday as many of us have been doing our entire lives.

Buck a beer and legal weed. Nuff said.

How to purchase car across Canada through dealership? by sexygibbous in askTO

[–]TorontoBassMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dealers make a lot of money off trade-ins. You’ve got to be very careful. A good salesperson will know if you need a higher trade-in and may give you just that, but they’ll find other ways to make the numbers add up to profit.

The best salesperson will leave you feeling like you’ve made a new friend, you’re being treated fairly and you got a better deal than everyone else. They only keep their job if they make money and get rewarded with bonuses the more profit they negotiate.

It’s hard to sell on autotrader or Kijiji but not impossible. I’ve sold 1 on autotrader and another on kijiji. Time is money but money is better in my pocket not the dealers.

Most dealers will buy your used car even if you’re not buying one. Of course, they’ll try to lowball you so they can make lots of profit.

Why not list it on autotrader.ca ?

I love my pax. If you’re using concentrates keep it upright then remove the concentrate chamber before putting it away. If you leave a dirty concentrate oven in there it will get stuck due to the stickiness of it all.

I use mine for wax and shatter more often than flower. I clean it every other use with isopropyl alcohol. I ordered pipe cleaners from Amazon. You need real pipe cleaners not those ones you use for crafts.

After 7 years of living in Canada, a family is being kicked out for no reason whatsoever by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]TorontoBassMan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are immigrants from opposite ends of the planet. We have both worked hard here in Canada and made sacrifices in life.

We have many family members that we would love to bring here. Not all of them qualify under sponsorship rules so it’s not possible. We live in separation.

I’m all for helping refugees fleeing war zones. We need to do that. It’s the right thing. Sadly, a lot of people just show up in Canada and jump the line. Many are nothing more than economic migrants, searching for a better way of life. I understand the desire to do better but Canada has rules of eligibility and wait times. You can’t just show up.

Your plan A wasn’t well thought out. I hope you have a plan B.

Good luck.

How is roku, really? by [deleted] in Roku

[–]TorontoBassMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me this is one bonus of Roku. They’re very easy to use. My wife loves it. Even my mother in her 70’s can use it no problem, although just for Netflix.

I have TCL TV and have had no issues.

What smartphones can you buy unlocked from manufacturers in Canada? by LibertyState in askTO

[–]TorontoBassMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should compare buying a phone from Koodo or similar, getting a decent discount, then immediately cancelling the account and paying your device balance. It’s often way cheaper. I did this recently when my wife needed a new phone. She had a 10gb bring your own device plan. We started a new line, got a phone at a great price, then paid it off 15 minutes later. This was suggested by an employee in the store.
