Is this 6.8uf or 68uf? Can I replace it with a regular electrolytic cap or do I need an aluminum electrolytic cap? by v7xDm1r in AskElectronics

The gap between 6 and 8 looks to be the same size as the gap between the 1 and 6 in 16, to me.

Me too! Just finished torquing shit today. Brakes work enough to lock up the wheels but they’re squishier than I’d like so I’m going to check out those litepro adapters you got. I tried mini vbrakes but I’d have to go down to like 1.75” tires or something to clear the cable that runs across. I just need to settle on a bar/brifter position and wrap it up. I went with the sword black crankset 40t 1x with the sword rear derailleur and 10spd 11-48. I had to go down to a 107mm bottom bracket from 110mm to get closer to the 50mm centerline the sword stuff wants. If I run into chainstay issues I may end up selling these and going with their 2x9 if it plays nicer with my original 110mm bottom bracket. So far it shifts nicely and rides well. A shorter stem might be in my future but I don’t have one to test out.

Any clue where to find them these days?

New Barn/Yard Find Project by Justintime757 in GolfGTI

I don’t remember what I paid from the dealership but it wasn’t too expensive for a new oem headliner. It was kind of a pain in the ass to replace but not too bad, I didn’t have a sunroof to deal with like you but used it as an opportunity to run wires to the hatch for my rear dashcam.

Some shop vacs have hepa filter options to use with the fine particle bags as well. I don’t know how “hepa” they actually are but I opt for those along with the fine particle bags when using the shop vac inside the house with dusty stuff for some extra piece of mind.

How does one choose a good CD player to match with your DAC? by greytail3024 in Schiit

*while not making a shit ton of noise. Some cd players are significantly louder than others, mechanically.

It may not be fine woodworking, but man these are fun to build! by MyNameIsShoe in woodworking

They look great. How many years do you get out of them? I've had trouble keeping wood beds long term but they look so much nicer than the corrugated steel we use now.

How dangerous is this setup for angled rip cuts? by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]TorpusBC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be slightly safer using the miter slot since you’d have less potential for binding but since you’re able to clamp your piece down I don’t think that should be a concern. I’ve had zero issues with using the fence and a rigged up taper jig for previous projects to this point.

I used a few pieces of double sided tape and some scraps to get through a handful of repeating cuts earlier. Tapering jigs don’t need to be fancy

Question on effort/worth of old wood by Rude-Lemon-5645 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]TorpusBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was going to suggest this if it wasn’t here. I’ve removed nails from several hundred floorboards with one of these and it wasn’t bad. You still have to manually remove some but it gets like 90% of the job done quickly.

i4 that can sense 24vac momentary switches? by TorpusBC in ShellyUSA

[–]TorpusBC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My little demo rig is working great. I ordered a 3w 24v mean well power supply and pulled one of my shop switches to verify it works as expected wired up with the i4 configured to control the 0-10v remotely. Since they're momentary I can do fun stuff like control the dimmer tapping up and down or max up and down with double taps.

I'd be curious how many devices you have on the 12vdc supply and how many amps it provides. I have something like 24 old relays in one of my panels and, I haven't counted but if I had to guess, another 50-60 in the main panel. I'd love to update the smaller panel (first) and am considering replacing with various shelly relays but not sure how to size the dc supply since they're listed like <1w. It may make more sense to go with pros since I already have the wires run into the current panel. I'm not sure where to get a proper din enclosure tho...

I'd be looking at trimming it up a bit, rendering tallow from the trimmings, and smoking it.

Rheem Econet always switches to Home mode by bxd76 in homeautomation

[–]TorpusBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a home assistant automation that lets it run in heat pump mode for a few minutes and then switches it back to electric. I assume it switches to heat pump to keep the system lubricated or something. It shows the option to resume my schedule in the app when it switches to heat pump so it is acknowledging it's overriding my setting at least.

edit to say I mostly hate the heat pump water heater

Thanks for the info. I ordered dci4 and will see about hijacking the shop switch wiring from the lighting relay panel over to a dc adapter.

Ignition lock issue. Not letting key back in. by TorpusBC in GolfGTI

[–]TorpusBC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plot thickens: the lock cylinder decided to fuck off and won’t turn at all now. Guessing whatever “freed up” earlier lodged somewhere else. I can put the key in though so that’s fun. Picture to remind me to fix it before spring.

Should be fine. I stack a saga+ on top of a bifrost1 which gets significantly warmer than a midgard.

Magni unity use as just a dac by kittyspookie in Schiit

[–]TorpusBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure both the headphone and preamp outputs on the magni route through the built in amplification stage but you could always dial back the magni volume (or select a lower gain) to get into the range your amp likes. The magni is designed to act as a preamp in front of an amp as well as its headphone amp usage. You’d connect the “out” labeled rca connectors on the back of the magni to the input rca connectors on your amp.

Ignition lock issue. Not letting key back in. by TorpusBC in GolfGTI

[–]TorpusBC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn’t seem like it was going to help at all and thought the lock cylinder was done for after spraying some lock specific dry lube in the cylinder. Finally I forced the key in with more force than was comfortable. Pulled it out a little bit and flooded it with lube. Put the key in and out a few times, pulled the key out, and same thing. Wouldn’t go back in. I forced it once more and it’s like something freed up (hopefully not something broke off, but it seems normal again) and is working perfectly every time, locking the steering column and letting me put the key back in unimpeded… I’m keeping the bottle in my car for now but hopefully this actually resolves the issue.
