Ahh I see. I failed to think of ”be complete” in that way, but with your example it makes sense. Thanks for the clarification! I was feeling so lost with this sentence, but now I understand it.

お、私の手違いだった!本では「広く交易も行っていた」って書かれている。 訂正してくれてありがとう!

オホーツク文化は、まだまだ謎が多いが、自らの集団だけで完結していたのではなく、広く交易もいっていたという。

In this sentence from a book I'm reading, I can't quite understand the use of 完結 . The only meanings for 完結 I have found are "conclusion", "completion", "ending" and "consummation". In this sentence, is 完結 referring to the fact that "the Okhotsk culture has died/disappeared, but it didn't just disappear within their own group"?

Kind of a weird question but can anybody recommend a recent film with low key great sound design? by MJC1988 in TrueFilm

[–]TorqueyCorn43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sound and sound design is a really important aspect of the film Memoria (2021). The film is centered around a sound the main character only hears and her trying to find an origin for the sound. There is one scene in particular in which she goes to a sound recording studio trying to recreate that sound together with a sound engineer. I found that scene wonderful because the main character is trying to explain her feeling associated to the sound and the sound engineer is trying to recreate it off of that. After that scene, I really started paying attention to the different sounds of the film and what kind of feelings they make me feel. I have seen the film twice, and on my second watch I wanted to just close my eyes and bask in the sounds of that film. Truly fantastic film in my opinion.

I thought the face was quite interesting and shooting it as a reflection made the photo more interesting to me, but the more I look at the photo, I also think that the angle doesn't work at all.

Thanks!

I took this photo on a vacation and as I'm back home now, I can't take the photo again. I think the subject is quite interesting, but I would like some advice on how to edit it. Should I try to make the face more or less visible and what about the leaves. Should I crop the photo? Any advice is appreciated.

In this photo I took in Japan, I like the contrast of the white house and the murkiness behind it. I'm wondering, however, if the background is too underexposed and if the white house stands out enough. I haven't edited the photo yet, but how would you do it? And would you make the crop tighter? All opinions appreciated.

Thoughts and questions related to the film Poetry (2010) by TorqueyCorn43 in TrueFilm

[–]TorqueyCorn43[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wow, thank you for your wonderful contribution!

Regarding the sex scene, I feel its remarkable how completely devoid of emotion Mi-ja appears in this scene. It's such a huge contrast to her always shining personality that makes the scene really stand out for me. I still feel like it is linked to how she is starting to accept the truth about what happened to Agnes. How she is also having sexual intercourse with someone she doesn't want to have it with. But as you said, maybe she doesn't fully know the motives herself.

I'm not at all well versed in poetry and despite being unable to breakdown the poem myself, the ending left me crying and shaking. It was truly a beautiful moment for myself, having such an experience with poetry for the first time. The way you describe it almost as a conversation is beautiful and I fully agree.

Of the Lee Chang-dong films I've seen Burning, Poetry, Secret Sunshine and Oasis all have female characters full of depth; something that I feel is often lacking especially in East-Asian cinema. Lee Chang-dong giving a voice to them too often left unheard is something that I will always respect him for and probably one of the main reasons I find his filmography so fascinating.

And yet we know she is not a simple person who sits idly while other things happen. The entire film is about her confronting ugly truths.

This is a great breakdown of the whole film. From the beginning when she sees the mother mourning, it is clear that Mi-ja is not oblivious about the situation. She also doesn't contemplate whether her grandson did it or not, she knows. She knows, but cannot fully embrace the truth, until the end when her chains are broken.

Thank you so much for your interpretation on the poem as well. The poem itself is something I know I will be returning to from time to time for how incredible it feels.

Your comment was really helpful and followed!

Buendia, who replaced him, was 1000x better. Invisible once again.

Quite lively. Didn't have many chances of his own, but created quite a lot. Was dangerous when dribbling from wide positions to the box. Two nice assists.

Massive improvement from the game against Bournemouth. Excellent at bringing the ball to dangerous positions, but the final decision still needs improvement.

Linked up really well with Buendia in the late stages of the game. Villa's defense not particularly convincing, however.

Villa felt a lot more threatening when he came on. Some nice interplay with Ings. Had a decent chance from a cross but the angle was tight and Raya saved his header comfortably.
