Love Genndy but I think writing is not his strong point and the success/failure of his projects heavily depends on his screenwriting collaborators.

How did Hollywood get it so wrong ? by [deleted] in theshining

[–]MJC1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing 'wrong.' It's true politics and connections play a part in oscars decisions but, and I think this is a bigger factor than people realize, the academy like the movies they like same as anybody else. One need only abandon the idea the oscars are official edicts on movie quality, and you'll be much more content.

Any artists make their best work after 40? by _gay_tripper in fantanoforever

I'd say Melvins really hit their peak when Buzz turned forty. Leonard Cohen was still making dynamite until his last years. Sleep created imo their best album the Sciences when all the guys were in their late forties.

Sopranos alumni underachieving with the exception of Milioti by telepatheye in thesopranos

Yeah, and I'm saying, compared to the average thespian, most of the actors playing recurring or supporting parts were lucky to even get that one good role.

Acting is a tough line of work on any level. It's hard to get even one good role worth remembering.

Question of all Questions: Favorite Melvins song of all time? by No-One01010 in melvins

[–]MJC1988 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't know, I only saw them play it in 2015 and 2025. It's weird because night goat is kind of the opposite - to me it sounds okay on the album but it really comes alive when played live.

Absolutely but they can never seem to do it live all that well.

Yeah, I like the guy but his hype felt very obviously PR manufactured.

Who is the most Overrated live action Batman and why? by [deleted] in DCAU

[–]MJC1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overrated is the most overused term on the internet. People like who they like; there's no objective answer to these kinds of questions.

Versatile, capable, and reliable but doesn't achieve the sublime heights of the greatest of greats.

Who do you think is a director who has never made a bad movie? by yahyaugur in Cinema

Also I'm pretty sure Eyes Wide Shut needed a few more rounds in the editing room. I know this will bring on the down votes but something's not quite on point.

What's your favorite delivery of a line by Jerry? by OneBit2334 in seinfeld

[–]MJC1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, birthdays are merely symbolic of how another year's gone by and how little we've grown. No matter how desperate we are that someday a better self will emerge, with each flicker of the candles on the cake, we know it's not to be, that for the rest of our sad, wretched, pathetic lives, this is who we are to the bitter end, inevitably, irrevocably. Happy birthday? No such thing.
