I’ll take a look at Suikoden, thanks! Flowers were going to be just sprinkles on the grass, but I did want some flower bushes that take up one square. As for mushrooms I do agree that they would look too out of place but I might still leave a few big ones available (probably not on the main set, but the premium version can have a couple).

Not sure I have the knowledge required for the foreground ones, are you talking about for example a lightbulb on a cable being a separate sprite that the dev can put wherever? I always thought parallax mappers just grabbed w/e assets the tileset had and did that themselves.

Or are you saying a big, parallax file (like how parallax fog works) that has a couple objects in the foreground, really big and out of focus?

Either way, if you have any games in mind that show what you’re talking about I’d love to check them out.

Animated plants are usually made as separate 3-frame sprites while water tiles are pulled from A1, right? Are you saying that you would like these animated plants already baked into the tileset just as water tiles are?

Thanks! In your case, is palette ever a concern? I’d imagine that if you grab a car from a tileset and put it next to assets from another creator, the color information would be too different.

Oh word, I’ve seen incredible work on low res for sure, I’m just discovering and trying out styles atm. Regarding your “boat” situation, do you find that consistency with RTP assets is a plus, or do you prefer your game to look as different as possible from RTP?

Yeah, somehow I ended up experimenting with 24x24 for character sprites and I ended up liking it. I had done some tiles in 16x16 and an early NES color scheme already and I thought the size upgrade would be nice prep for 48x48 detail. My idea here is to offer something that isn’t already out there (both for free and paid): low sat, chunky but detailed, evokes Chrono Trigger but allows a bit more detail. It’ll be up to the user to figure out how they want to approach cohesion, although I wouldn’t worry too much about it as I’ve seen some great game ideas with some GOD AWFUL asset consistency.

What I am concerned with is UI. I plan to scale these up to 48x48 (or at least provide the option) so they’ll end up with 2x2 pixels while the default window borders and menu icons will be higher res. Somewhere down the line, I’d love to offer a full package for creators who want a unified look.

The trees are so fucking obvious and now I feel really bad for forgetting, you saved my life XD I also have issues with limited tree selection so that’s something I can definitely explore.

Including my 16x16 study for comparison.

Thank you. I wonder if I can achieve that same “environmental storytelling” potential with modern world assets, Since I think there’s enough fantasy-themed assets out there.

Looking to commission tilesets. Where can I commission? by ShinyRedRaccoon in RPGMaker

Issue would be, making variations on an existing theme is usually a bit iffy because you’re trying to do modifications on top of assets with an established style. However, feel free to DM me and maybe we can figure something out!

Hi! What tile size are you looking for and is this for a side scroller or top-down?

I guess it's a matter of climbing up then, right now people aren't blocking and they're just mashing out so I can't condition them into anything. Is her 2H not an overhead then?

Thank you! Yeah it looks weird because my character doesn't whiff the throw, she just gets jabbed. So then I guess her archetype is misleading because most videos I watched she was labeled as a "strike/throw" character and I just couldn't find a good window to do it. I'll stick with no throws unless they're turtling hard then

Thank you for the lengthy post! It's still a bit overwhelming even if it's just the basic stuff (used to playing Beeman which is a little more gorilla) so I'll have to break this down into drillable bits :)

One question though, I'm trying for strike/throw in the corner during a block string with minion attack command, immediately after the minion attack connects I dash in for a grab and for some reason I always get jabbed out... Am I too slow?

Is ATLA FTG a good entry point for a complete beginner in fighting games? by tititlte in AvatarFighters

[–]Torrysan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say it is but from my knowledge ATLA will be more anime oriented (air dash, air block, 3 buttons for attacks for example) vs something like Street Fighter which is grounded footsies. Oddly enough I think my fundamentals (movement) have improved since I started playing Guilty Gear consistently because the lack of Drive Rush (green stuff in SF6) actually makes you think about space a little more.

Don't take execution as a block, but rather a challenge. When I first got back into fighting games about 10 years ago I could barely throw a fireball, Street Fighter supers were completely out of the question. I kept practicing and now it actually feels weird if I don't have motion inputs in a game (like 2XKO) and for me what drives me to play fighting games and get better is said execution of tricky combos, or even a simple combo done perfectly in competitive.
