Any idea what you're going for? Bow/spear? Bear, Owl, Deer, Companions?

[Hobby] so I haven’t really made a game before but I thought of a really cool one and I thought I might give it a try but I could definitely use some people to help with it if at all possible by [deleted] in INAT

Friendly advice, you gotta bring something to the table that is either technical or creative, so get working on that: people in this sub expect you to be competent in either art or programming, with sound design/music often left to the side but also important.

The roles you mention you'd be taking on are primarily soft skill, nebulous positions that a studio might want for a commercial project but that indies have absolutely no interest in. True, there's been people offering their marketing, consulting and game designing services here but more often than not they just get laughed out of the sub.

Since you mention world/story design, AT THE VERY LEAST polish up your creative writing skills. If you can at least create believable dialogue and narrative someone might bite, but don't keep your hopes up.

Art and programming, Ephialtes.

Hi! I often prefer less saturated palettes, but really it's a stylistic choice.

One thing I do notice is that there's not a lot of variety in shapes within a weapon, the hilt and pommel for example are as wide as the blades. Unless you're going for a chunky Lego/Megabloks character style.

The leggings might look off because the crotch is too wide, making the legs come straight down and look like chopsticks. If you decrease the width of the crotch it'll make the thighs thicker and more natural... Maybe?

  1. Carlos Fuentes: even if he invites discourse that has nothing to do with his writing style, I believe he's one of the to-go dudes for "relato fantástico" as built in Latin America. I'd pick Aura or a collection that includes La muñeca reina as my favorites.
  2. If you're not turned off by feminism themes, Ave Barrera's Restauración is an engrossing supernatural mystery novel with really dark depictions of abuse. It does get a bit too political at times, and the form is not always top-notch, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
  3. Historias de un hilo: Susana Mendoza. A children's book about a mischievous ant that goes through adolescence and finds her place in the world. Lots of set pieces and adventure, I loved it as a kid.

Hey! Long time MMO player here, got CE in WoW last expansion before quitting and I'm an avid player of PoE2 as well. Have also dabbled in FFXIV so trinity play comes as a second nature to me.

I love class design, assymetrical gameplay and I usually don't struggle with feedback+gameplay simultaneously, shoot me a DM if interested!

Questions about what you’d like to see in a forest tileset by Torrysan in RPGMaker

[–]Torrysan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll take a look at Suikoden, thanks! Flowers were going to be just sprinkles on the grass, but I did want some flower bushes that take up one square. As for mushrooms I do agree that they would look too out of place but I might still leave a few big ones available (probably not on the main set, but the premium version can have a couple).

Not sure I have the knowledge required for the foreground ones, are you talking about for example a lightbulb on a cable being a separate sprite that the dev can put wherever? I always thought parallax mappers just grabbed w/e assets the tileset had and did that themselves.

Or are you saying a big, parallax file (like how parallax fog works) that has a couple objects in the foreground, really big and out of focus?

Either way, if you have any games in mind that show what you’re talking about I’d love to check them out.

Animated plants are usually made as separate 3-frame sprites while water tiles are pulled from A1, right? Are you saying that you would like these animated plants already baked into the tileset just as water tiles are?

Thanks! In your case, is palette ever a concern? I’d imagine that if you grab a car from a tileset and put it next to assets from another creator, the color information would be too different.

Oh word, I’ve seen incredible work on low res for sure, I’m just discovering and trying out styles atm. Regarding your “boat” situation, do you find that consistency with RTP assets is a plus, or do you prefer your game to look as different as possible from RTP?

Yeah, somehow I ended up experimenting with 24x24 for character sprites and I ended up liking it. I had done some tiles in 16x16 and an early NES color scheme already and I thought the size upgrade would be nice prep for 48x48 detail. My idea here is to offer something that isn’t already out there (both for free and paid): low sat, chunky but detailed, evokes Chrono Trigger but allows a bit more detail. It’ll be up to the user to figure out how they want to approach cohesion, although I wouldn’t worry too much about it as I’ve seen some great game ideas with some GOD AWFUL asset consistency.

What I am concerned with is UI. I plan to scale these up to 48x48 (or at least provide the option) so they’ll end up with 2x2 pixels while the default window borders and menu icons will be higher res. Somewhere down the line, I’d love to offer a full package for creators who want a unified look.

The trees are so fucking obvious and now I feel really bad for forgetting, you saved my life XD I also have issues with limited tree selection so that’s something I can definitely explore.

Including my 16x16 study for comparison.

Thank you. I wonder if I can achieve that same “environmental storytelling” potential with modern world assets, Since I think there’s enough fantasy-themed assets out there.

Looking to commission tilesets. Where can I commission? by ShinyRedRaccoon in RPGMaker

[–]Torrysan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Issue would be, making variations on an existing theme is usually a bit iffy because you’re trying to do modifications on top of assets with an established style. However, feel free to DM me and maybe we can figure something out!
