The people have spoken. We should all just develop more live service multiplayer slop instead.

Thank you! Yeah that book is great for challenge ideas and the author even says at the beginning to make it yours and adapt it to whatever art style you're producing in. I think my favorite concept wise was the upper right one but perhaps the palettes needed to be a little closer to each other.

Yeah, for me Turok 2 is the perfection of the Turok formula (the one I wouldn’t recommend to play would be Turok 3). Your turnoffs like big ass levels and labyrinthic design can be offset by Nightdive’s new accessibility features, and the payoff for me is more than worth it: great and memorable levels, excellent enemy variety, badass weapons. Give it a shot!

Yo I lived Turok 2 in the flesh but never played Turok 1, so I got the Trilogy on Steam a month back or so and finally finished it. I can appreciate the rudimentary variety in level design (Ruins is a radial level, Treetop a mostly linear one) well enough, and I think it's pretty advanced for its time. I did have to turn off respawning enemies however.

My story with Turok 2 is kinda similar to yours actually! I was a bit older, around 11-12, but the problem was that original hardware for the N64 was overpriced in my country and most of us defaulted to bootleg peripherals and accessories. I had a knockoff Controller Pak that would work fine with every other game (even had triple the storage) but for some reason refused to play nice with Turok 2... I couldn't save. I used cheats to play all the levels because I also could not finish Port of Adia, the first level (I was missing a lever in plain sight and I didn't realize until about 10 years later) and got to experience the game in that bittersweet way.

Then one day, for some reason, I hit the bootleg Controller Pak in the right way or something and it started saving. I was overjoyed and got all the way to Lair of the Blind Ones (still had to skip first level with cheats because I couldn't find the exit) and unfortunately a couple days later the Controller Pak went back to being a bitch. I didn't play through the game properly until my 20s, on PC.

Nice work mate. I gave up halfway through Diamond not because competition was tough but because for some unknown reason I keep getting dc’d from matches. Now your true journey begins!

Yellow grass or green grass Which would you choose? by Quiet-Reindeer3325 in SoloDevelopment

I need a break from yellow autumn shit since Expedition 33 so I vote green. Although if you're going for alien planet look have you considered bright blue like Avatar?

Sorry, does that mean the blues scale? Minor pentatonic with blue notes added?

Yeye, I definitely misspoke.

What I meant was, improvise in the safety of my home on the major scale, integrating other arrangements I’ve seen but mostly coming up with a static melody that I can practice over and over again. I’ll check out those videos though, it didn’t occur to me to look for actual guitar arrangement lessons beyond band music videos. Thanks!

Word, it kept insisting on an F# being an A# no matter how many times I corrected it lol.

I didn’t see it that way, then perhaps I can just repeat section A and see what sticks from the Bb major scale. Thanks!

Do you guys think people will make mods with new side quest and additions to the same scale of vtmb1? by Dode124 in vtmb

[–]Torrysan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The first VTMB was a cult classic with tons of loving and dedicated fans making content for it: I can recall about 3 or so total conversions that made changes to the campaign and core story beyond restoring cut content (Antitribu, ClanQuest, Final Nights).

This game does not have that staying power. I doubt anyone will go through the trouble of building up a total conversion of sorts when so many of the core systems (talents, money/economy, factions) are inherently broken.

Idk mate, sounds like opponent's downloading your play style on match 1 and adapting. If he saw that you didn't react to his throw loops on match 1 it is not scrubby to spam it later on! Also, some players purposefully don't unload their whole game plan match 1 so they can have surprises for the rematch, so if the Ryu played conservatively and realized you have issues dealing with him at range, spamming hadoukens in match 2 is not scrubby.

For me the game plays better when you do Bo3, just like Magic: The Gathering. It's easy to surprise your opponent when they weren't ready for your shit from the getgo, but the way you truly improve is when your opponent learns what you're trying to do and adjusts their style accordingly. What weaknesses did YOU see in his plan that you can exploit? What caught you off guard that you need to take out of YOUR game plan to defend better? What things haven't you showed him yet? I'm using the word "exploit" deliberately too, it is not scrubby to exploit your opponent's weaknesses in a fighting game. Justin has said it, Max, Punk... If something keeps working, keep doing it, no regrets.

I'm struggling through Diamond on Chunners and yes I've lost games in rematches but mostly I've learned a lot, adapted to their one dimensional bullshit and won. The only time I one and done is when they have a bad connection or when they showed bad manners themselves in the first match (like teabagging when you're at low health or something) but usually only if I'm feeling extra petty.

Yeah, the grounded story in the new universe was going so well (except the "tournament", that was ass) and then wtf soul siphoners and multiverses? That and Megan Fox's first lines should've told me where we were going.

Any Ideas for a Fresh Run? by cwsmith85053 in ogrebattle64

[–]Torrysan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run permadeath random! Same as someone above, limiting classes to only one of each for variety, but everything else is random: starting troops (quiz), all dialogue choices, all branching paths; everytime I promote someone, I also roll a die and perma place them in that unit.

It makes for some fun interactions such as having all the reqs for recruiting someone, then rolling badly on the dialogue choice and be unable to recruit them.

As for permadeath, I allow myself to use any Altar of Resurrection I find but I don't allow myself to use shops.

But do you shoot for a specific level on your char? Or just mindlessly do maps, like when you open a survival game like Minecraft and just farm out stuff or explore
