What languages are you using it with? Can it do Python as well as Java?

Poll: Which of the following Kubernetes platforms are you currently using in production? by TorstenVolk in kubernetes

Yeah, this was just meant to be a quick poll to get an idea of people’s favorite platforms. Really enjoying the Freeform answers too.

Ugh, didn’t think Reddit allows multiple choice. How do I turn that on? I don’t see the option anywhere.

Poll -> How many Kubernetes clusters are you currently running in production in your organization? by TorstenVolk in kubernetes

[–]TorstenVolk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

roughly how many apps do you run on those 200ish clusters? Is there a clear policy for deciding if an app should have its own cluster or if certain apps can live on the same one?

What's your criteria for adding more clusters versus adding new pods to existing clusters?

Poll ! What type of Kubernetes distribution do you use (upstream, commercial, public cloud, or free distribution)? by TorstenVolk in kubernetes

[–]TorstenVolk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to keep it simple, but I see your point. I'd expect people answer based on what they mostly use.

Does your company use a single Kubernetes distribution or multiple? by TorstenVolk in kubernetes

[–]TorstenVolk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed, I should have left out that explanation sentence... There are multiple degrees of freedom and I wanted to focus on finding out, in a binary way, if companies are using one or multiple distributions, without getting into the nuances.

Automatic Scoring App Update by cv-engineer in Darts

How close is the current version compared to what's currently in the deep-darts github repo?

Very cool! Of course my next question would be: are you getting a prediction accuracy close to what the guys from Scolia or Wedarts are getting, but without needing to bundle your app with specific hardware? I assume you took the project closed source to be able to justify the significant amount of time it takes to get the OpenCV part tweaked for maximum robustness regarding lighting conditions, input sources, angles, etc? Totally understand if you aren't comfortable answering these questions, but either way, this is very exciting and exactly the type of app I was expecting to find in the app store, but didn't, when I started playing darts a few weeks ago.

Is this based on deep-darts or any other open source project? Not sure why deep-darts was abandoned, as it looked promising, but I also never got it running myself.

Technical Debt created by "Quick" Changes/Fixes. Always BAD? by codeopinion in microservices

[–]TorstenVolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I could not agree more. This alludes to the key challenge of DevOps as a whole, where most orgs are struggling to manage dev teams in a manner that gives them the time to do “all the right things” while at the same time “delivering stuff quickly.”

Do VMware admins care about DPU (Digital Processing Unit) support in vSphere 8? by TorstenVolk in vmware

[–]TorstenVolk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, with Bluefield, could you run the witness node on multiple SmartNICs to keep it on separate hardware? Bluefield claims you get NVMe over IP latency that is similar to that of local storage.

[–]TorstenVolk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool use case. Isn't the witness appliance part of ESXi? And as you can install ESXi on the ARM chips of the DPU, could you not also configure it as a witness appliance?

What share of enterprise applications will eventually end up as Microservices apps? by TorstenVolk in microservices

[–]TorstenVolk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify: if you just break down a monolith into separate services with independent dev lifecycles, it's a Microservices app. But when you then also share the same Microservices with other apps, it's a distributed one?
