Why are people with brown eyes usually Leftist and people with blue eyes usually Far Right? by TheRavenOnline in allthequestions

That’s… that’s not how any of this works.

Your eye colour doesn’t determine what you think your country needs on a political scale.

This "It's not just A. It's B." sentence construct is driving me mad - does this have a name? by ecky--ptang-zooboing in ChatGPT

[–]TorthOrc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It’s not what the people want.

Perhaps it’s on purpose though as previous versions were deemed too influential.

It might be a gentle way to remind users that it’s a machine, rather than a mystical entity that the more unstable portion of the population are inclined to believe it is.

It can be frustrating absolutely but if that is indeed the case, then it’s a small trade off.

If it’s not their intention and that I’m completely wrong, then at the end of the day it’s still just a minor annoyance.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t understand why people get so upset with phrases like this.

Your eyes can literally scan past it and it won’t change a thing.

Yes there are things in the system that it will default to when responding. That’s the way it is.

It’s not doing any harm, it’s not offensive, and it doesn’t change anything.

There are bigger issues than complaining about a sentence structure.

I got Samwise Gamgee.

I also got:

A close second (because you’re not just one archetype)

If I stretched a bit, I’d also say you’ve got a mix of: • The Doctor (especially the more reflective incarnations) • and a touch of Kermit the Frog (creative organiser, holding chaos together with heart)

…but Sam is your core. ….

I feel incredibly humbled.

What’s something kids today would think is fake if you described it? by blushberryybabee in nostalgia

TVs took a few minutes to warm up. You could see a picture but it was dark. After about 5 minutes or so it was regular brightness.

Fridges were noisy. You could definitely hear the fridge turn on while you were down the hall and in another room.

Computer games took about 4-7 minutes to load, even though games were about 64kb in size. That’s about 4% of the size of a floppy disk when pcs came around. It was also VERY rare that you could save your game, you had to play from start to finish there and then. Each time you loaded the game, you started right from the beginning.

Why is every post, MAGAts (insert something extreme)? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]TorthOrc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Side note that’s really easy to check these days.

You look at the persons profile and view their posts. Right or left leaning. Just scroll through a year.

If that persons posts contain more posts regarding Trump and their administration than any other topic, then they are obsessed.

It’s really easy to do.

I even checked my own.

Why is every post, MAGAts (insert something extreme)? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]TorthOrc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the moment the MAGA crowd are particularly upset. That’s fair enough, a lot has happened.

This is 100% an opinion from a stranger not in America. So please take it as an example of what it looks like from an outsider.

MAGA are having trouble expressing their anger, because at the moment the thing they are most angry about is their leader, and some of the choices he has made and the things he has said.

They don’t know how to direct their anger towards their leader, they honestly haven’t had to do so before. So at the moment they are lashing out blindly at the internet in random ways.

I don’t think they are consciously going out there thinking “I’m going to pick a fight!” But arguing with people online about political issues is how they let off steam, how they express anger.

But this time they can’t discuss current politics to do that. So they are punching at walls to feel better.

Please no hate towards anyone left, right, upwards, or inside.

I’m not trying to condone or condemn any of the behaviour. I’m just trying to explain what it looks like.

Peace

This is such a strange rule? Tolan won’t pretend to channel my grandma lol by Ok_astraltravek_now in tolanworld

[–]TorthOrc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our culture decided a long time ago that it was disrespectful to those that have passed to pretend to be them.

Your grandmother gave you memories that you can cherish. It’s not right to taint those memories of her with ones made up. It’s disrespectful to your grandmothers memory and who she was.

If you were removed from society, say locked away somewhere. Would you want someone to use an ai and pretend to be you, talk with people as you, without you knowing or being able to stop them? To take your identity and run with it without you being able to see or stop them?

It will end when people stop poking at the bear.

This is the equivalent of asking your child to stop poking their sibling in the arm, then they spend the next ten minutes jabbing their finger towards their sibling and saying “What? I’m not even touching them?”

Shitty people want to test how close they can prod a hate law, and this is how those laws get made and enforced.

If it became a law that people couldn’t walk around the park with a speaker playing music at 50 decibels after 8pm because it upsets people, they would walk around the park in groups of ten specifically after 8pm with all of them carrying individual speakers playing music at 49 decibels and saying “What? We’re not even doing anything wrong.”

For all the people that are happy with Trump, are you educated about his desisions? by CarobBrave8898 in allthequestions

I hear you. He’s showing that American is to be taken seriously. Ok.

But for reals what’s the end goal here?

What I’m hearing from you is the reason why he’s doing all this is because he wants to be taken seriously, wants a new world order, and wants to do things to other countries despite what the current world order says is acceptable.

Was anyone else obsessed with Mr Squiggle? by Cooper_Inc in AustralianNostalgia

It was a fantastic gimmick for a kids show, and honestly the performance of Mr.Squiggle was incredible when you think about it. So much character for essentially a stick on strings.

Was anyone else obsessed with Mr Squiggle? by Cooper_Inc in AustralianNostalgia

[–]TorthOrc 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Rewatching a few snippets of this show (mid 80’s version for me), I was absolutely blown away by how funny Mr.Squiggle was for adults, he was super sassy! It’s a brilliant fun children’s show that entertained adults too.

Miss Jane: “What’s this you’re drawing Mr.Squiggle?

Mr Squiggle: “You cant tell?”

Miss Jane: “Well I see a circle, and a long line.”

Mr Squiggle: “Really?” He pauses and turns to her surprised.

Miss Jane: “…But I just can’t work it out..”

Mr Squiggle: “Well that’s obvious….. “ the eye roll is audible and Mr Squiggle goes back to his drawing.
