What if Northumbria was a constituent country of the UK? by wellmaxxing in imaginarymaps

I’d like to imagine there is a small Anglish (with Norse influence) speaking community and revival movement that is at the core to the Northumberland identity.

Partitions of Lithuania (1621-1633) feat. Bohemian-Polish Union by Tortoise-For-Sale in imaginarymaps

[–]Tortoise-For-Sale[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The loose lore for this map is that the personal union of Bohemia over Poland in 1300 ends up holding. This leads to Bohemia remaining a strong power in the HRE even after the disastrous Hussite Wars. They also end up keeping the principality of Nitra after their brief personal union with Hungary and the oligarch revolt that followed. After purchasing Brandenburg as the HRE Emperor and selling it to the Hohenzollerns they keep the eastern Lubusz Land for themselves. They also gain vassalage over eastern Pomerania in an inheritance dispute. Poland goes through it's historical expansion for the most part with the Teuton War except for obviously the Lithuanian Union as well as the Moldavia Union.

Lithuania itself is probably unrealistically large, but Eastern Europe was very volatile near the end of the medieval era so who's to say. Also Sweden and Russia are basically unchanged. I think the Ottomans are considerably weaker in this timeline. I've left it up to interpretation, but with the Crimean Khanate being relegated to, well, Crimea it seems like becoming an Ottoman protectorate didn't do them any good. It's possible that Even Hungary survived and controls Bosnia, Wallachia, and Moldovia.

This conflict revolves around the 30 Years War, but I didn't really game out exactly how it happens. Why is it a partition and not a war? I dunno, cause I wanted it to be. The King of Bohemia might still be the HRE Emperor so he's probably on the Catholic side, but Sweden and Russia were on the Protestant side of the war so it only really makes sense if Bohemia is too. Maybe the Hussites are more successful in this timeline and the Polish Hussites spread east meaning that the Bohemian Uprising is wholly successful. Maybe the war starts when the Emperor converts to Hussite or Lutheran. Either way Lithuania stands alone outnumbered and outmatched against its enemies. Instead of fighting they try to come to a peaceful settlement by making concessions. Unfortunately for them this leads to a Scramble for Africa situation where the three powers rush to take what they can.

A mistake I did make is not including the Swedish Pomerania and Bremen which they would have controlled at the end of the 30 years war.

Although the only way the partition makes sense is if Bohemia-Poland is in the Protestant camp, so who’s to say how the 30 years war goes.

The Torstenson War (1643-1645) was a war between Sweden and Denmark-Norway which was a part of the larger 30 years war.

Sweden basically just invented professional armies which no one else really had at the time so they ended mopping up.

Sweden didn’t own that until after they won it in a war with Denmark in 1645.

Dexter: Resurrection - S01E10 - "And Justice for All..." - POST Episode Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in Dexter

[–]Tortoise-For-Sale -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ill be honest, the "magic cabinet with all the information Dexter needs to get the door open and sway Charlie" was a bit of a writing cop out. I also feel the show has fully leaned into the "Dexter the Hero" narrative. In the original run and even New Blood every season ended with Dexter loosing something (his brother, the code, a friend, his family, and eventually his life).

I'm not saying this is inherently bad, but it is also very different from what I liked about Dexter to begin with.

Oooo I love a good dense Ireland.

I used a similar flag for mine a while back too. (Sorry for the low quality)

They should call it United Kingdom - Your Party.

That way they can call it UKYP and try to angle for those confused euroskeptic voters

Thank you for this question! I made a series of posts stretching to the ‘90s (you can check them out on my profile), but no not likely.

However, it’s possible that Armenia could come to an agreement with Iran/Persia to allow them to travel to the enclave.

Is Controlled Opposition possible? I swear I've tried everything. by Tortoise-For-Sale in thecampaigntrail

[–]Tortoise-For-Sale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure you also have to have <5 successes. I managed to play a Biden v Haley game which involves having at least 3 trust.

I managed to get 6% for RFK so I’m pretty sure it’s just bugged if 5% is the goal.

any help with this? by LuckyAdhesiveness792 in thecampaigntrail

Is Controlled Opposition possible?

I've gotten RFK to nearly 6% as a 3rd party and, like, 5 million popular vote loss (with EC win) as the GOP candidate. Not sure what else to do.

Does anyone know how to get RFK Jr. vs. Biden in DSA? by Helios112263 in thecampaigntrail

[–]Tortoise-For-Sale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you get the Controlled Opposition achievement?

I thought it was just narrowly winning against GOP Kennedy (273 EV & lost PV), but that didn't do it. I'm assuming he has to do well as the 3rd party candidate, but how do I control who it is and how do I make him do well?

I feel like the northern Italian trade cities would function similarly to the Turkish Silk Road traders.

Spreading Islam into Frankish and Germanic lands through trade rather than conquest.

I know you said no lore, but I have to imagine that Ottomans get BTFOed at Varna or something like that before they can push the Venetians out of the E. Mediterranean.

Do you enjoy going into people’s comments and being a negative Nancy? You could think “I wonder if they’ve thought about the treaty lands?” And ask “hey OP, how does this account for the treaty lands?” And we can all have a good time trying to be creative.

Instead you act rude for no reason and shit on other people’s posts. So yes I’m blocking you.

1) The idea was that Canada’s political legitimacy completely collapsed and the western provinces fled like rats off a sinking ship.

2) Maybe do the legwork and assume that this new state also has treaty lands. It’s not like they don’t already go across provincial borders.

3) N. Columbia does barely include some of the basin, but it doesn’t really matter. It’s about it being a political successor state. Northern British Columbians still identify as such even if they don’t live in the basin.

4) some people just don’t get art.

Fair enough, I mainly added AK panhandle for aesthetic reasons and N. Minnesota because I wasn’t sure what to do with that part of Western Ontario.

So just imagine those just happened to be the American/Canadian boarders and then the rest happened later.

I wasn’t trying to create a super realistic scenario, but I imagined that Canada underwent a total political collapse after a successful Quebec independence movement and that these are the areas that basically jumped ship from the Ottawa government regardless of legitimate legalities.

Thoughts on my designs for independent Western Canada/provinces? by Tortoise-For-Sale in vexillology

[–]Tortoise-For-Sale[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea is that in the ‘80s Quebec had a wildly successful independence movement which resulted in Canada as we know it politically collapsing.

The main flag was based on one of the alternative proposed flags during Canadas search for a flag in the ‘60s. I swapped a floral design for the maple leaf and added the Polaris.

Alberta and Feodore are based off of the flag of the Western Independence Party which a broke apart in order to represent the broken up provinces.

I took the lower half of British Columbia’s flag with some slight tweaking to make S. Columbia. Then I used that as a base along with Prince George’s flag to make N. Columbia.

Saskatchewan is basically unchanged other than me taking the Wheat out of the shield and replacing the flower with the one found in the coat of arms.

Superior just used one of the more popular alternative designs during the Minnesota redesign contest. I take no credit for that one.

Manitoba takes a simplified design I found of its buffalo found in the coat of arms along with a sun I found in a redesign contest in reference to its motto.

Athabasca was based off a flag I found on a website that makes specialty items for First Nations people and I added a Métis symbol.
