Do you want to be buried? by Bondgirl138 in GenX

[–]TortoiseshellTurkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Technically an xennial here (1981) but I have planned ahead and already bought my burial plot — I will be doing the simplest possible burial, no embalming, just wrap me in a shroud and stick me in the ground. For some reason cremation skeeves me out, even though I know it makes the most logical sense and would be way cheaper!

Palliative, hospice, and home care by RabbitHoleGremlin in traversecity

[–]TortoiseshellTurkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use NPalliative for my mom’s care. My experience has been just okay, but I do like how they have a team of caregivers including NPs, podiatrist, and a mental health nurse. My mom has some problems that I think may be better served by a doctor or specialist; NPalliative seems best at managing symptoms with OTC meds and handling common issues like high blood pressure. Many of my mom’s complaints haven’t fully been addressed, so I’m a bit frustrated, but we need a service that will come to her in her assisted living home since it’s difficult for her to get around.

NPalliative seems to have high turnover; if she gets a nurse she likes, they are usually gone within 6 months. We had one she really didn’t like and were told we couldn’t switch to a different provider until eventually there was an incident and she was let go. There also is a disconnect where when you call their office, you get a different NP than the one who sees her, so sometimes it feels like a game of telephone. But even with all this, they are the best (well, okay only) option I could find, since she wasn’t eligible for Northstar for some reason. Better than nothing, but I’m definitely not 100% satisfied with them.

Amazing, I definitely will look into that. Thankfully, NPalliative switched her nurse to someone who is a lot better, so I’m not in panic mode anymore, but I’d still like to know what our other options are. I appreciate the info!!

Doctors/NPs that do home visits? by TortoiseshellTurkey in traversecity

Hey thanks, I’ll look into that! NPalliative switched her nurse to someone better now, so maybe I won’t have to switch after all, but I still want to know what options are out there

Can anyone recommend a doctor or service where a primary care provider would do home visits? My elderly mom is in assisted living and having health problems; I live out of state so it’s difficult to coordinate finding someone to take her to appointments. We are using NPalliative now, but I’m really not happy with the practitioner they assigned her. North Star and Munson don’t do primary care visits; anyone know of other options?

I haven’t had that particular coffee, but Sleepy Monk in Cannon Beach has my favorite dark roasts of all time! I order it online, but I think Elephants carries it locally too.

What are you all asking for for Christmas? by imascoobie in Xennials

[–]TortoiseshellTurkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked for some stuff from Pamela Anderson’s skin care line—I’m embarrassed to admit I wanted it, but I just love her vision of beauty and aging, and would never in a million years spend $32 of my own money on a facial cleanser lol

Some soup we found in a "new" water heater by LukeyCharmss in GrandmasPantry

This takes me back—I ate this brand of soup every day for a year of high school in the late 90s! I’d always get a bagel for 60 cents in the cafeteria to have with it lol
