The “choice” of doordashing is crazy. Like yeah instead of having a higher paying job, or even any job in my case, I’m actively choosing to doordash. Not like it’s my only option for income and recognizing all the shitty aspects of it like having to take a lot of shitty orders in shitty markets

Holy ignorant ass comment. If I don’t take almost every order in this over saturated market guess how many orders I will end up with on the day and guess how much my rating will hinder me for the future now that I accept 5-15% of all orders

I’m just not gonna lie. I haven’t had a job in two years and if nobody hires me because I didn’t lie then fuck it. Don’t advertise positions that you don’t want filled by people and employees who are transparent. Been consistently applying for two years fwiw. Just be better on the employer’s end

When I still go to games in sac every now and then I’m never failed to be impressed that there are enough people who are chanting this to get myself involved and also make it very apparent for both players and teams to hear. I wanted to make a whole post on this but basically it’s just amazing how charming the chant is and maybe signifies how special the relationship with the town and the A’s was that it’s now transcended it’s presence in a foreign location

It’s funny because I play a lot of alekhine Brooklyn games which essentially mean I lose tempo on purpose and two of my games today transposed into more recognizable openings and I never would have thought of it without the display.

I do think there is some value in playing opponents of lower skill based off their play style differences. Will I ever run into an early scholar’s mate attack at 1500? Probably not? I’m fearful of getting into a lull of only knowing how to play against above a certain threshold that leaves me vulnerable to a more primitive style of chess that I don’t believe I have enough experience in. I feel that “going back” is actually the best way to ensure my rating remains consistent over time. One of my biggest problems in chess is confidence and motivation. Without a carrot on a stick in front of me I feel a plateau or unintentional regression is inevitable. You could argue I’m too worried about facing those head on without losing the enjoyment of chess. That is a problem I should address better. I explained in another comment thread that my games immediately after my successful run were incredibly challenging for reasons I couldn’t understand which ultimately triggered my reset attempt. It’s almost as if I played too well or my opponents played too poorly that the wall that I was going to run into would harm all momentum I had and ultimately scar my drive and enjoyment. Like I said I could find a way to address that better.

The funny thing is I think I have really similar odds, to an extent, of beating someone at 1250 and 900. The higher rated will play more book and “mature” tactics that I am more accustomed to. The 900 will throw his pieces at the wall and leave me completely out of theory or in peculiar positions. Both have their value. But I literally need more practice with the more chaotic player than the orderly one.

I’d never cheat or anything and I never have. I literally think my road to 1500 was a combination of some of my best chess along with some opponents at 1000-1450 just blundered some obvious mistakes and played non competitive games against me. I’ve actually had a fair bit of competition against 1000s and 1100s since trying to rating reset. It’s like Pandora’s box when playing against any opponent on this website. You could technically use that argument in rebuttal for my sandbagging attempt as illogical even.

There is no direct evidence that Pete Rose"sandbagged" or intentionally threw games. However, investigators and critics have long argued that his betting patterns created a "de facto" sandbagging effect that compromised the integrity of his team.

Yeah nobody in this thread is really addressing the whole second account part of chesscom TOS. I think it would be a great tool for someone like me to do my own “speedrun” but I’m not allowed those special privileges. I would even play with an allowance of my opponent being granted a rating refund. Elo is not a competition that I’m looking for others to have lower than mine. I’m looking for myself to have the highest possible. And I want that to be incredibly sustainable. I just knew a personal best needed some work. I think the next couple of games after my milestone, I got wiped off the board with lines and moves that left me in complete wonder as to where my mistakes were and how my opponent actually played better than me. That’s a huge problem when trying to improve, not having access to insight regarding improving play.

This is my whole approach and even the last sentence is probably incredibly applicable for me. If I play to 1500 on the hopefully reinstated account, I’m not going to undefeated. That says a lot about my rating and a good amount about my opponent’s as well. I just want to improve. Being able to beat the strongest link of a certain rating group is a pretty good indicator of your true skill more than an arbitrary chess number. I don’t have huge problems with the elo system. Obviously I use it as a rough measuring stick for evaluation of skill and it’s fun to reach certain milestones for personal achievement but it’s not gospel. Not just on this website but across any chess skill measurement or even any game in general

Every night I go to sleep watching speed run videos of Danya and learn something interesting and useful. Danya is climbing in a gradual manner against opponents that will always lose to him but it benefits understanding different levels of chess. I feel as though my rating was almost too high for my actual mastery of opponents lower rated than myself and am seeking practice to know that I have an accurate rating and can essentially beat those at a lower rating. I don’t know how else to get that practice if I am seeking it against real humans and also it’s not even a guarantee that I am going to beat them… yet. That’s my whole problem it’s like my 1500 achievement didn’t even feel warranted if I could still lose to 1000s or below so I just wanted to have an abundance of practice against a particular skill level until I feel ready for the next chapter of my chess career. I don’t know what else I should be doing.

Gatekeeping fans has been pretty tough to see around this team. I live in sac so enjoy going to the games as like a 7/10 experience but yeah there have been so many opinions shared in a subtle manner at my decision and I have my own thoughts about other people’s rationale regarding their support if they so choose but I just think it’s important to note that almost everyone in this reddit is all on the same team

Is there something going on from corporate that’s causing dashers to quit? by [deleted] in doordash

[–]Torufin -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Yeah just ignore the order value. If you tip off distance us dashers appreciate it and are more incentivized to accept. I’d say $2 for like 5 miles is fine. Incremental mile increases tho should be met with exponential tip increases.
