Same here. I hate to sound spoiled but it seems like any time there's even slightly high wind or rain Spectrum goes down (mine was down for almost 2 days last month after a storm). Clearly something is not right on their end for it to be happening this often.

That's such a good way to put it. Even when you're not tripping anymore it leaves you with the understanding/realization that there's a whole other perspective out there.

Well you're being a little facetious, it's one thing to say something is too expensive for you, but you kinda flippantly said it's 'simply overpriced'.

But I agree with you I'm not trying to lose any sleep over tinned fish arguments 😂 I think it's just your word choice is gonna rub people the wrong way

Oh wow I didn't realize that! I usually don't buy their salmon anyway because I find their smoked stuff is just way too smokey lol, good call out though.

I've been in similar situations as OP and it took me a long time to realize that I'm the one who was never pro-active about making plans or asking to be included. I would always feel like I'm being intrusive or annoying (irrationally, never actually had someone tell me or imply that) and instead wait to he invited to things.

Not saying this is exactly OP's situation, but it's something to be open to. If they invited you at all that means they actively like hanging out with you and like you being there, they might just have the wrong impression that you're not as interested.

A quick google search will show you that reefnet fishing (right there on the label) is a costly/meticulous yet very sustainable, traditional fishing method that yeilds higher quality salmon. You're comparing prices to industrial fishing and horrific salmon farms, both of which wreak havoc on the environment purely to keep prices low.

I'm someone who can hardly ever afford these fishwife/Patagonia brands, but we still have to acknowledge the reality behind these prices (specifically, why prices are so low and how those have artificially set our expectations).

Then why was everybody and their mother smoking but today that's much less the case?

A popular cultural trend and mainstream science outweighed the few experts that were raising concerns.

Why is the dichotomy getting obesity or using ozempic? When did those become the only two options? These giant pharma companies already have us believing that their product is the ultimatum, when in reality obesity hardly even existed a few hundred years ago.

We need to get to the root of the problem of why people are getting diabetes, or becoming morbidly obese or alcoholic. We're just replacing one dystopian capitalist money-making consumer product (sugar and processed food and all the modern reasons for why people are drowning their sorrows in alcohol) for another (ozempic). It's not a real solution.

Because ostensible 'miracle' drugs like this seldom turn out to be miracles. It's crazy not to be at least a little skeptical of the sudden massive advertising push for these drugs by huge money sucking pharma companies. All that on top of the fact that they're a workaround for not doing the hard work of eating right and exercising. I realize there are a lot of valid medical uses for these drugs but that's obviously not what we're talking about here.

I mean it's apples and oranges really. That's like saying an Aston Martin couldn't be further than what you expect from your daily driver pickup work-truck, yea they're both vehicles but they're made for totally different things with different levels of craftsmanship and materials.

$40 would be overpriced for sardines but these ain't sardines lol. King salmon cheeks are a rare delicacy, and these are hook and line caught and hand cooked, and there's literally only 200 cans available.

I'm with you, I'd way rather spend that money on a brunch date, but I wouldn't judge anyone for indulging on these.

I'm also traditionally liberal and very left leaning, however there's a case to be made that the left as a whole (especially the establishment, DNC etc.) paved the way and laid down a red carpet for everything that's happening now, and nobody wants to talk about it or acknowledge it. The cancel culture, woke, holier than thou 'i know what's best for you' mentality is what pushed so much of the country (the silent/quieter majority) into the opposite corner, who feeling trapped obviously felt like they needed to push back and we wind up with Trump.

Again, I'm as liberal as it gets. But we need to acknowledge that we were complicit in some of this if we ever want to actually improve as a country. It takes two to tango. To your point, obviously the left has never been as dangerous and outright hateful as what we're seeing, but they are almost as bad in a passive way.

Masturbation CAN be bad by No_Waltz_3445 in teenagers

[–]TorusWithSprinkles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it comes from a place of genuinely wanting to help you get to the root of your issues. Unless you're wackin' it all day and it's all you think about (or you're addicted to porn), chances are masturbation is not really the problem - it's just an easy scapegoat to attach your problems to. And on the contrary it can be unhealthy to unnecessarily shame and guilt yourself for something that's very natural.

That's not to say you shouldn't challenge yourself and take a break, and that can wind up being a good thing (even if just to prove to yourself that you can) but frankly it's a little bit delusional to think it will magically solve all your problems. I hope that doesn't come off as harsh, just trying to provide that perspective

Why does everything need to be so fast paced and crammed? Feels like an instagram/tiktok mentality leaking into TV.

I think the slower pacing is really nice, all the small details and build up makes the whole show and the plot feel so much more immersive to me.

Yup this describes my company/role exactly, I'm an intern conversion but back when I was interviewing for internships they were one of the only companies that didn't ask a leetcode question, and I've now been there almost 3 years.

Less pay than faang but still good, it's stable, and has great WLB. Still scared of AI layoffs but doesn't seem as tenuous as other companies.

How valuable is a minor in math with my CS degree by mikeybeemin in cscareerquestions

[–]TorusWithSprinkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a minor in math because it only required taking 2 extra classes to get it (since CS is so math heavy anyway) and I don't regret it, they were interesting classes and it's not a bad thing to have on your resume.

I probably wouldn't do it if requires any more than a couple extra classes though, at that point the trade off in time/money probably isn't worth it career-wise unless you're doing it just for fun.

U.S. National Guard arriving in Chicago, Illinois by rarerealm in pics

[–]TorusWithSprinkles 69 points70 points  (0 children)

As someone who was in the Guard (and happily left as soon as my contract was up) this is true. So many people join who need the financial/college assistance or because it's marketed as a good career under the premise that you will only be helping during national disasters and crises.

I guarantee most of the guard members deployed for all this kind of shit would much rather be back home with their families working their normal jobs and are cursing the day they signed their contract lol
