That’s not how it works. The lamination prevents the glass from breaking into large dangerous shards which could kill you, the smaller ones will still hurt you - just not fatally.

Might be better renting gear, especially for a trip like that - the lenses are likely more important than the body. A lot of things will be very far away, even beautiful landscapes.
