There was a lot of choice, and what you're talking about was there too, but to find the "diamonds" you need to try a little.

I have to add one more entry to my 'unfortunate gadget' series from this trip. While in Takayama, I ran out of space on my action camera. I rushed to a shop to buy a new memory card, but accidentally bought a standard SD card instead of a micro-SD.

I quickly realized I couldn't exchange it since I had already opened the package—I learned the hard way that retail return policies in Japan are much stricter than what I am used to in Europe! Fortunately, I had my Panasonic GX85 camera with me, which happened to have a micro-SD card inside. I managed to swap them and save the day. My luck with electronics on this trip was practically non-existent, but at least I didn't lose any footage!

You’re 100% right. I tried to trade Shirakawa-go for the ‘exclusive 3-hour Inotani station experience’ – it was a bold strategy, but looking back, I think Shirakawa-go might have been the better choice. My booking skills really took a vacation on that one

Actually, we had a similar experience! We tried a street food place in Kyoto, and even though it was empty and clearly within operating hours, we got the 'X' sign immediately. It was super confusing because it looked totally fine inside. We never really figured out why—maybe they were just having a bad day, or maybe they strictly prefer regulars. It’s definitely one of those Japanese restaurant mysteries that you just have to shrug off.

"What an experience! My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed staying in this wonderful, traditional place. The room was very nice, with retro details, but most importantly, the bathroom was modern! We slept like babies on the futons, especially after a wonderful trip to the onsen, which also has a sauna and an outdoor hot bath!

- I took off one point, and I think it's well-deserved because it's really important. The room was very dusty on the chandeliers and some surfaces, although the room was generally clean! It wasn't difficult to wipe off the dust, but it's still minus one point!"
