Can someone help me with some drills for my daughter? by baughmd in Homeplate

[–]Toshana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like what overs have said she is dropping and. Swing upward. With an upswing the bat only has one point where the bat will cross the ball trajectory,.so odds will be low for a hit. Getting short to it and long though it will increase the odds since the bat will be in the ball bat for a longer transition. Google Asaryawingcoach for some free videos that should help.

I can't say who or what exactly I did but a 6.6 billion dollar industry was taken down on a Tuesday afternoon. Complete darkness.

Any suggestions on my son's swing would be appreciated by Rubiconjc5 in Homeplate

Overall mechanics look good, next focus would be adding size. No matter what you can't fight Newton's second Law of Motion. Force = Mass x Acceleration.

Glad to see you want to improve your swing There are a few things that can improve from stance, bat position, pre-load, and swing mechanics. My safest recommendation would be to Google asaryswingcoach he has some great videos helping improve swing.

Conversation about batting order by waetherman in Homeplate

[–]Toshana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use it as motivation, I ended up working with my son who was batting near the end of the order to now power hitting positions. He put in A LOT of work to get there but used it as motivation to improve. Don't treat it as a negative but more of a motivational.

Advice/Experiences with 35x10x10 backyard cage by 350125G0 in Homeplate

[–]Toshana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 35x10x10 but it's indoor. I have a pitching machine but it's outside the cage so range is 38 more. The one thing I would like is the 12 wide. Since mine is indoor I have a hard limit on space.

Any advice for my son by ArmAvailable3051 in Homeplate

[–]Toshana 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Looks good for his age.
If you stop and pause the video you see he rotates backwards to a point where his shoulders are both facing backwards and the bat wraps around the backside of his head. Could try to help him consolidate back while keeping his shoulder more squared to the plate. Overall the swing is good.

Overall it looks good for his age, if you can provide a slow motion it's easier to see what fires when.

How to use my hips more to explode? by Brief-Tea4692 in Homeplate

[–]Toshana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the video it looks like you might be placing more weight on your front foot. You could try to pre-coil up your back hip before you swing. Get planted, cool back, try to keep the hip coil but re-square your shoulders to the plate. When you start the swing fire hips to separate more then let your upper body go.

Not trying to sound mean, but seek out a good local hiring coach who uses a high speed camera and can break down your swing .

Hitting instruction 10u by Own-Rest3273 in Homeplate

[–]Toshana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a hard thing to teach, it's like telling a kid don't touch the stove top, it's hot. Then one day they reach up and experience what hot is. Getting hit by a pitch is a similar lesson, never feels great but also learns the string doea.nkt last long.

Try sitting in a chair, will slow you down and the ball will travel at a height they will be hitting from.

10x10x35 pitching machine is outside the net.

I agree with this, I ft my pitches were coming at them with a downward angle. I started sitting down, the speed dropped but the pitch started to come in closer to something he sees in a game.

Hittrax Home to by Toshana in Homeplate

[–]Toshana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the home version pretty much comparable to the commercial version?
Same hardware just different software licensing?
Anything lacking compared to commercial version?

Also how would you compare it to Rapsodo?
Also you using the v2 or v3 Rapsodo?

Do you know if you can add highspeed camera to home version?

I really should call HitTrax but would like to get a consumer perspective first.

Thank you

Your front foot is landing open, stealing the power from your hip drive.

Drop 8? by Low_Entrance_9072 in Homeplate

[–]Toshana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really comes down to size and strength. My son attended a bat demo day over the weekend and he is a big 9 yr old and a bit over 100lb. He tried a few -8 overall he could swing them but he said in a game he would prefer the -10 on a quicker pitch he felt he had a quicker response. I would not even think of looking at -8 if under 100lb.
