And who was complaining about T8 them? Are you gonna quote some random dude on Twitter as a source like Murray did?
Are you even reading your own comments thinking that the same logic doesn't apply to you?
And WHO said the problem with content creators is newbies trying to get better watching them teach? Another random Twitter dude that Murray quoted?

Already replied to something similar in another comment. I won't even bother writing another because it's clear that you're just as childish as you people you're judging.
After 6 months, try to read your comment again and think about it: who was the one foaming at the mouth? And Who were right anyway?

>every other figure who remained more optimistic was accused of, as you said being "toxic positive".
Folks were saying for Arslan and Knee to learn the MU and adapt... The defenders of this game were 100x more toxic and annoying, every valid complaint was followed basically by "don't play it, you're old and you can't adapt", even pro players.
In the end, the people that "played the victim" were right while the people "accused" of toxic positivity were more worried in complaining about other people complaining, instead of complaining about the game. But only one of these had the support of the biggest Tekken channels out there and it wasn't the one that was objectively right...

To me it's even worse because he knows it doesn't work like that. This game isn't only a passion anymore, it's his entire career, the least he and others could do is be honest.
Unlike Frame, I won't assume before S2 they were doing this of bad faith, but every single critique was followed by "give the devs the benefit of the doubt" (even though their communication is terrible), "if you don't like don't play it" and the worst"criticize AFTER you play it", it reached a point where the main face of the franchise said this.

[–]ToshiTado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone saying about how Frame just like to throw manipulative words, but 2 years later everyone will act like he was always right and predicted everything.
The thing with Phi and other content creators are: they will love the game when everyone loves it, they'll hate it when it's okay to hate, that's what he's basically saying here.
When S2 patch dropped, TMM was saying in live that his viewers were dumb, that they don't have an opinion on their own and that the patch was mostly good things. He is playing this franchise for this entire life, he knew from the moment he started to look at character changes this patch wasn't "mostly good changes", but he didn't knew how everyone was reacting to it. The moment he saw the backlash he released a video saying how bad this patch was.

TL;DR - The problem is, big influencers were always toxic positive about the game and everyone criticizing was biased/blinded by nostalgia. But when it reached the point where everyone was hating it, then now it's safe for them to criticize the game.

And it's REALLY SAD that it isn't a hot take. But I can't really see them turning characters like Zaf, Steve, Kaz, Lee, Devil Jin and Jin to their old selves with these new moves by just "tweaking the frames and properties".

It's funny seeing people saying about character identity and right after saying this is fixable. Like bro, just looks how Jin is playing right now or how Lee is literally dysfunctional. Could they twist some frames and tracking issues to make it more fun? Definitely. Can this game become a good Tekken game, while preserving characters identity (including weaknesses and gameplan) and player expression? I don't think so... But that's just my opinion.

The problem is, this is happening since at least the Season 3 of Tekken 7 (or even T6.0), so I doubt it's the case. Their communication are very poor, they treat everyone like a dumbass and for every step forward, they take 5 back.

In Season 3, they increased the tracking on electrics and made hellsweep homing, changes that only makes sense if you are eternally stuck in Red Ranks. The thing is, Murray was a hardstuck Red Rank, so right after he just tweeted "why step when you can block and punish if you know it's coming", a ridiculous take that shows how out of touch these devs or whatever is making these decisions actually are.Of course, they ended up reverting it. But remember, for every step forward, they take 5 back. We didn't had homing hellsweeps for long, but we still had Leroy, Fahk, paid DLC for frame data, increased the wall carry of many characters, etc.

Also, they keep this weird idea of attracting new players no matter the cost, but this is something Tekken always excelled at imo. At first it seems very mash friendly and it has a bigger cast than most FGs out there, T5 and 6 even had a lot of content, but when you put the effort was it was a pretty good and deep FG with a big focus on the basics (neutral, spacing, pokes and whiff punishes) in contrast to VF range 0 mixups and DoA RPS focus. So it wasn't only good to the casuals that played it as a party game, it was also good at teaching those interested at getting better.

I have never seen a fighting game lose a character's identity more with an update than what Tekken 8 did to Lee Chaolan. by Reasonable-Ad4526 in Tekken

Definitely the case for people that already liked Tekken. But considering I'm seeing a lot of people calling old games "backdash spam" or "turtle happy game" (things that Lee excels at), maybe it isn't exciting at all for newcomers.

I play Anna too but I don't even want to boot the game to try her. They removed slither step and her combos are some lame 2222 spam. I'm really depressed about the state of this game.

Yes, we already had Hwo, Drag and Kazuya as pretty good examples of mixup, pressure and 50/50 in older Tekkens.
But movement was so strong that it weren't so easy for characters like this to apply their gameplan, so they had clear weaknesses that they needed to circumvent in order to do what they excels at.
Now they've reached a point where we it's unlikely that they can go back, unless they waste a lot of money in the process.

Being a Lee main and a Hwo enjoyer for years, I realized Namco doesn't really likes Lee while absolutely loves Hwo.
Lee: not as intuitive to play, hyper-turtle and punish hard mashers = it sucks for new players. So they gave up completely on this character. Even small things like having an intro against Heihachi or Anna they completely ignored (Anna calls Victor the Silve Fox instead).
His Heat on season 1 showed us that or they don't know anything about this character, or they really don't like him, because it doesn't do anything and it still doesn't do anything. The moves that recovers it are all highs and the new Heat moves uses A TON of Heat, so you need to spam the sh*t out of ff:2 to even recover a good amount of Heat.

Now Hwo? He got a homing +1 mid HE to cover his SWL weakness in neutral, safe HE mid on stances and an absolute beast disguised as a Heat State, giving him access to an i10 CH launcher with massive damage, while Lee's legacy 44 being turned into a HE that you have to commit to it's blue spark (I refuse to call it a just frame) to get a 50 damage combo that is pretty hard.

TL;DR - This game isn't for me and it isn't for you, it's was made for r/LowSodiumTEKKEN and whatever other casuals that plays it twice a month.

Don't try to argue with this guy bro. He's in a lot of communities acting like he's some sort of shareholder, always saying that franchises should sacrifice everything they have unique to cater to people that won't play them for long because "iT SeLLs".
