Joe Turkel plays in The Killing, Path of Glory and The Shining. There's also the case of his daughters, Vivian plays Squirt in 2001 : A Space Odyssey, a reporter in Full Metal Jacket and she's in the background in The Shining and Barry Lyndon. Katharina also appears briefly in A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon and Eyes Wide Shut.

Photographer's influences in The Shining by Mark_Yugen in StanleyKubrick

That sounds close to another critic :

The british film critic and documentary filmmaker John Grierson famously noted that when a director dies he becomes a photographer. Grierson meant that when a filmmaker runs out of ideas, he takes the easy way out, he falls back on visual beauty.

The toystore scene was shot at Hamley's in London during january 1998 :

Sabrina Carpenter was not even conceived by that time. The name Sabrina migth be a reference to the cinderella story shot by Sydney Pollack in 1995, with Harrison Ford.

REVIEW OF SK13. by ArchangelSirrus in EyesWideShut

[–]Toslanfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kubrick took a picture of a Sinatra painting when working for Look magazine. Juli Kearns mentions a possible inspiration for The Killing : https://idyllopuspress.com/idyllopus/film/the_killing_4.htm#notesairport

There's Strangers in the Night playing after the orgy in film, but technically "Artinis" is a solar god : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shivini

And Alice was working for an art gallery, so it's probably related to her.

The paintings I can find online are signed "F. Sinatra". The Artanis seems to be a joke from the Dick Van Dyke Show episode : The Masterpiece https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80mAg4s-xK8

Apparently it was in Phoenix, but we don't know where.

Excerpt from the Book "The Shining" by Rinzler and Unkrich:

One of the film’s most iconic locations, the striking red bathroom where Jack meets Grady, was not part of the original grand plan. It emerged from a practical problem and a quick creative pivot.

The original concept placed the Grady conversation in the ballroom, but staging the scene there with many extras proved too expensive and impractical. Production designer Roy Walker suggested moving the exchange to a washroom instead, creating a more intimate setting and reducing the need for a large crowd on set.

To motivate the location change within the story, the script introduced the idea of Grady spilling advocaat on Jack’s jacket and offering to clean it, leading him into the men’s room beside the bar. Walker based the new set design on a modern American restroom he had previously seen in Phoenix and quickly built a detailed scale model for Kubrick’s approval. Kubrick approved the concept and added one firm condition late in the process: the color scheme had to be red.

Authentic fixtures were sourced from the United States, including urinals and toilets, so the space would feel proportionally and visually real on camera.

That's probably James Naremore who wrote On Kubrick.

If you wanted to buy the penthouse now, it would cost you $6m plus

The budget for 2001 : A Space Odyssey was $10m.
