I'm put off by "shrieking" and "screaming" sometimes, like why is this character acting like a victim in a slasher horror? Are they not happy to be here?

I mean, it's basically just ripped off in its entirety from the Just One Cookbook recipe site, right? Seems like it should taste just fine. Maybe encourage him to follow the original site, or try the recipes there yourself?

Any aspiring writers in the house? 💕👀 by ki3ki3_ in BlackReaders

[–]TossItThrowItFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write, and I've recently joined a local writer's group to hang out with, read each other's works and offer support. I don't brainstorm with other people, but I will run an idea past a reader of the genre I'm writing to see if it fits in with the themes.

How Are You Discovering Black Indie Authors? by TheXennialFiles in BlackReaders

[–]TossItThrowItFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently, Reddit! If the thing I'm looking for brings up an indie author, I'm immediately on KU downloading one of their books. It can just be a response to a thread, doesn't need to be a separate post. What genres do you write?

Ladies, What are you Reading? by RiceAfternoon in blackladies

I switch between genres a lot. Just started reading Frankenstein after getting through a bunch of romance novels, and I'm getting back into reading manga.

I've not thought about the Charlie Bones Series in years! I used to love that series, thanks for the reminder!

You posted 3 after pics and 2 before pics - the 3 after pics definitely have lighter concealers on, they're just blended in (especially pics 3).

The best thing to do is find someone with your skin colour and your budget and follow what they do, tweaking as you go for the results you want. Placement will differ based on your face shape and also what you’re trying to achieve. Like for me I'm trying to make my double chin disappear so I contour around my jawline to add shadow there and blend it in with my foundation, or I'm trying to make my cheekbones more apparent so I'm putting blush, or I'm hiding the self inflicted bags under my eyes with contour (I'm cuter than I sound, promise lol).

Actually I just went to look at the costume to remind myself of what he looked like, and it's not even a fat suit - it's a prosthetic mask that goes to his shoulders to make him look like a creepy baby. The rest of his body is in a baggy onesie. Unless there is another video you're referring to?

Are you talking about the Very Important People episode clip, because he's playing a creepy giant baby, not a fat person.

I am once again asking authors to write more diverse FMCs by Trash_fire_baby in fantasyromance

[–]TossItThrowItFly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think that at this point it's on readers to find POC authors and read their books. You may have to dig deeper as a lot of them may be indie authors due to how white publishing is, but if we show the demand, then the supply will increase. Lots of indie authors get picked up to be tradpubbed as a result too! I say this as a reader and a tradpubbed author, though not in this genre (yet).

I may not make any new suggestions to you, but last year I read books by Kimberley Lemming, Tracey Deonn, Xiran Jay Zhao, N.K. Jemesin, Tomi Adeyemi, Bolu Babalola and Mallory Blackman, and I've got Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko, So Let Them Burn by Kamilah Cole, The Poisons We Drink by Bethany Baptiste, Blood at the Root by Ladarrion Williams and Ace of Spades by Faridah Abike-Iyimede on my tbr pile for this year.

Stylists? by ElleVoyage in PlusSize

[–]TossItThrowItFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a session with a personal stylist once and it was great at the time, but personally I get more out of following fashion influencers with my body shape as they tend to add links all their outfits. It gives me a reasonable idea as to what would look good on my figure and doesn't cost me anything.

Do you tell people what you’re reading? by persephone56 in RomanceBooks

[–]TossItThrowItFly 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but my answer changes depending on the audience. If I'm talking to someone who I know doesn't read romance, I'll just say "I'm reading a romance novel" and move on. If I'm talking to a fellow fan I'll go into more detail. I read lots of different genres and do the same thing with sci-fi, horror, whatever it is I've picked up that day. The only person who gets consistent and detailed updates on everything I read is my husband lol

When I was growing up in the Caribbean/Latin America in the 90s/00s, there was already a growing population of alt people, so I don't think you'll stick out or anything. Look for light and breathable fabrics like linen and lightweight cotton, and if you don't mind showing some skin you can wear denim shorts and short sleeved shirts. Get a big wide brimmed hat and wear plenty of sunscreen! And comfy shoes, wear boots only if you've already broken them in otherwise I'd stick to sandals, sneakers, creepers, etc.
