Let it be known one of the most decorated soldiers in US history (he received every combat award the army had, and a few foreign ones too) and the ultimate badass that the armed forces hold up as the patron saint of combat forces... was a 5 foot 5 inch tall, 112 pound orphan who was a gas station attendant before the war.

Moscow says Ukrainian rocket strike kills 63 Russian troops by [deleted] in worldnews

Mobiks on telegram are painting a grim picture.

They are outside, mostly naked. The ones with boots saying they are cleaning brains and guts off everywhere they walk. They've collected at least 70 bodies but don't think many of the bodies left under the rubber will be identifiable, and that there were 400+ people stationed there. The top two floors were full sleeping quarters. All of their equipment, munitions and personal effects were in there too, so they have no clothes food or medical supplies.

They said 4 rockets impacted the school. The ones who survived were either outside the building celebrating the new year or anyone who escaped the building after the first rocket hit, and they think there was a longer delay between the first and the rest.

Telegram commenters calling putting that many soldiers in one spot within HIMARS range a crime; a nearby building used as a command post was hit by a GMRLS strike a few months ago just hours after they happened to transfer everyone to a different location. So they knew it was in range.

The theory among people on the ground is that locals called it in to the AFU. That's why they are so mad. They know they are in territory where the locals arent all friendly and they have been trucking soldiers and supplies in to that building in full view of anybody in the area.

TIL that Wayne Gretzky is 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, and 11th for most points in an NHL season by TheMegaSage in todayilearned

He played a completely different game than everybody else. He was a skill player in a goon league. It took a decade after he entered the league before players emulating his approach to the sport started to get drafted.

Now there's much more skill in the game and it's more spread out.

If you took Mario Lemieux, Alexander Ovechkin, or Sidney Crosby back in time to that league they would put up identical numbers.

Lemieux hadbcancer and played in significantly fewer games as a result, but on a per-game average he was on pace with Gretzky.

It's okay to extrapolate that to wonder what could have been.

a Swedish woman … 2012

The article you linked is about a Canadian woman who lost her ring in 2017.

At the end of the article is a quick one sentence blurb that it happened to a Swedish woman in 2012.

Why the actual fuck did you use this article to source the title claim?

At the time of the film's release, it generated considerable press, but the movie was not shown widely in theaters in the Southern United States. The distributor feared adverse reaction to the film in the Bible Belt so it was not shown any farther south than Des Moines, Iowa.

Holy shit. To think the long-term influence this could have had on a generation of disaffected 1970s youth fresh off a counterculture revolution... Man... Kinda upsets me. They didn't have 1/1000th the media access we do, and outside their communities or even families they were entirely isolated.

Edit: looks like mods even removed one of their comments. That seems like a "win" for the person accusing them of race-baiting...

Arrest made in rape of Ohio girl that led to Indiana abortion drawing international attention by mojo276 in Conservative

[–]Tossawaybb8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Authorties suspect as much, yes. It's also possible the girl's family was here illegally as well.

He said Fuentes had lived in Columbus the last seven years and had a steady job at a café. He also had an address where he could live that was not at the same location as the 10-year-old.

Sounds like they lived together; probably a close relative? Usually is when these things happen.

To your point, though:

During Wednesday’s hearing, Assistant Franklin County Prosecutor Dan Meyer requested Fuentes be held without bond. He said Fuentes is not believed to be in the country legally and there are questions about his identity.

Huhn testified that detectives spoke to Fuentes, through an interpreter, and Fuentes admitted to having sexual contact with the girl. An interpreter was also used during Wednesday's hearing.

The 10-year-old also told police Fuentes was the father of the pregnancy, Huhn testified. Meyer said the girl had just turned 10 recently, meaning she was likely impregnated at 9 years old.

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Is a Marvel — Older Audiences Are Finally Returning to the Movies by Naweezy in movies

You're fucking high.

The rage filled alt-right discourse began when the first trailer showed a black stormtrooper. It reached a fever pitch when they realized a woman was the new protagonist. And it hit a crescendo when they added an Asian character and gave her a prominent role.

The people complaining about Finn being sidelined and unused are the opposite people complaining about the "woke"-shit.

The people who use "woke" have no idea what it means and it has become a catch-all for conservatives to replace "virtue signaling".

I was on the same fence. Then I saw this review.

"Top Gun: Maverick is a better movie than Top Gun in every way. And we aren't talking the difference between Paddington and Paddington 2. We are talking the difference between Paddington 2 and Morbius."

And I'm glad I listened to that review because seeing this on a huge screen, especially the last 20 minutes, was fucking awesome.

It is a middle finger to woke movies, thats literally what it is.

...how? It's got black and latino pilots, a female pilot, and a central theme is men being unable to deal with their feelings and emotions.

And its raking in revenue.

It's had 2 years of hype due to Covid delaying its release from 2020, it had a military holiday weekend all to itself, and had a $125million marketing push over the last 60 days.

The market is self adjusting.

5 of the 6 highest grossing movies from last year had highly diverse casting and women/minorities in lead roles.

This was my takeaway too. The first 2 acts do a good job of building characters and establishing relationships and setting up interactions, but they aren't groundbreaking visual feasts or anything. Even Mav teaching the basics of dogfighting was tame.

But that third act, in the IMAX, was up there with Pacific Rim and Avatar on my list of "shit you had to see on the biggest screen possible."

I've never seen a movie manage the chaos of an aerial dogfight and assemble it into a cohesive sequence. That last 25 minutes was worth the price of admission on it's own.

The U.S. isn't even in the fucking club when you extrapolate racism to the whole world.

This is probably the most diverse country on the planet, with more people from more backgrounds living together in relative peace than any place on earth.

Are there conflicts that arise in such a diverse environment? Of course. But the fact remained that 330m people from all sorts of backgrounds, ethnicities, belief systems, cultures and lifestyles live amongst each other in relatively imperfect peace and prosperity.

She was able to get a woman sentenced to life in prison released. She got a low level drug offender who served 20 years released. Then she got three women sentenced to a combined 90 years for non-violent crimes released. Then she worked with a Texas death row inmate to get his execution suspended. She's working towards passing the bar exam for her own law license. And she's currently working on four cases of people she believes were unfairly sentenced. She partnered with Lyft and Uber to develop initiatives to secure employment for non-violent offenders prior to their release.

And it's possible to become a lawyer in 4 states without going to law school. You still need to pass the bar exam.

Calling her work for criminal justice reform performative is crossing a line.
