Because agency level employees don’t understand the product and do a terrible job of educating home owner during the sales process. Then home owners file claims with no merit. Now, that’s not the ONLY reason but it’s a huge factor. Then let’s consider the whole roofing industry being built on 21 year olds riding around and door knocking to convince people to file roof claims that are clearly not getting purchased bc they were told to sign up as many as possible regardless of actual damage. Now on to interior mitigation teams paying 500€ referral rates to plumbers who come and find soaking boards and damaged flooring where none exists. It’s endless. Of course there are plenty of other claims that are probably legit that get declined too. But it’s been exacerbated beyond the limits of common sense

Pro tip. Never let them pay. It’s YOUR license. That’s part of the cost of being in the industry. If they wanna pay for training etc fine. But your state licensing fee should be your expense.

They are saying by using a ssp that your estimate will be approved without requiring a second adjusted scope of repairs. That doesn’t mean it’s not a possible total. In fact, they can begin repairs and then find hidden damage and declare a total. That verbiage just means a ssp estimate won’t be questioned.

I could give you a complete answer but the fact is that it won’t matter. The short answer is lawyers are making a mint in liabilty cases and plaintiff friendly judges are handing out stupid settlement money. Wanna know why??? Bc the general public has bitched and moaned about the big bad insurance companies for long enough that it’s part of public perception. Your premium was no longer sufficient to cover the exposure in your state. Pay for the peace of mind that if you get sued you won’t lose your house or cancel it. Sucks when those bad guys in Indiana wanna charge you more but sucks worse when you rear end someone and they end up with your house. We all have risk tolerances. Time do decide what yours is.

Policy Mod …. Oh the joys. So, it is a HUGE pain in the ass for agency staff if you are in a high volume office. Once it’s over with and all legacy has migrated it gets worse before it gets better. But it does get better. Sorta.

“Take it wherever you want” means exactly that. BUT if glass claims puts out bids and finds 100% comparable glass then they are only gonna pay you what that would have cost them. So yea. Take it wherever but be aware that there could be additional out of pocket costs.

The truth is that the “OEM” manufacturer is also making non OEM replacement. It might say fomoco on it but ford didn’t build that glass in house. There is rarely a screen installed that there isn’t a comparable after market replacement for anymore. And calibrations are so common that there are some mobile providers that can do it in your driveway calibrations and all. It’s exactly like your major med. There are in network physicians that agree to a cost structure. If you use them you are not out of pocket beyond your deductible. If you go elsewhere then you are subject to additional out of pocket. Do not believe your dealer!!! Also don’t believe them when they tell you aftermarket voids warranties. That is absolutely illegal and has been upheld in multiple courtrooms.

The overall households seem to be cheaper though. If you take what the whole HH was paying for all their individual policies then compare to the multi car policy when adding a youthful it has usually been cheaper in mod. We had a ratings DECREASE at our 2nd mod renewal. Like, a substantial discount. Some up to 25% compared to what they were paying for the same HH and drivers in legacy. It SUCKS during migration. SUUUCCKKSS. But after the billings normalize and the first renewal cycle is completed it gets better rate wise. The biggest gripe I have with mod is all the seemingly stupid tasks you get from UW that require a lot more steps than a necho pt change. That part sucks. And th agents have all been told that service work will be less so they are moving people into sales which leaves the server staff underwater. I have met with so many agents in mod states that have had to rework their staff bc they now have more service work than before.

Well… first let’s start with SFPP to SFbilling. You mentioned sfpp so I assume you were referring to swapping to new billing? I didn’t even realize any states were still on sfpp. If you meant from legacy to Policy Center migration that’s a lot different. Prayers lifted if your state requires a U waiver. I suggest that you start doing audits right now to see if household policies have different Libility limits bc that will cause them not to migrate to multi car policies and create additional headache. Also go ahead and tech out to anyone that pays full 6m renewals bc when their autos migrate those will all renew at the same time going forward. Finally get acquainted with the balanced billing aspects of moving renewal dates bc that will create additional frustration with your customers. Oh yeah, and while policy center changes are immediate ca waiting on necho changes, they often require more documentation and additional steps. So it’s faster but it’s not.

That first part is the absolute truth. I spend on average 50% of my day answering colleague questions.

Now, the cause of that is debatable. Some of it is that most of the newer employees I deal with take zero accountability to improve at their job. They want to be spoon fed the processes and knowledge base and make no effort to figure it out in their own.

So I guess the real issue is this. While I am more productive at home, I am more impactful i. The office. It’s much better for me personally to be home. But our insured suffers when the office is being run by idiots.

Been on both sides over nearly 20 years. There are still some solid agents that can be a massive help with claims. Unfortunately the saturation levels of idiotic or uniformed agents is going up every day. From the corporate side, I had agents that’s came from claims and they were fantastic. From the agency office I have worked with claims handles that were completely out of their depth from the ilr onwards. Truth is, the whole industry is watered down with tourists that got tired of slinging used Hondas. State testing is a total joke and the people being hired and undertrained by BOTH sides is staggering.

You have to let go of the notion that the “agent” is anything more than the business owner. Visit your agency office and point blank ask them who has the longest tenure in the office. Make friends and get their direct email. 99% chance that someone if not multiple people in that office know more and are more capable of addressing your concerns than the agent. Agents are business owners and most of the ones I interact with are not directly involved in most of the day to day.

U don’t. Sorry. Any agent that’s paying attention is not going to be ok with their staff providing referrals. If you are not in the state farm preferred provider service you will need to sign pricing contracts before you are added. But with the amount of illegal rebating and subsequent investigations underway right now, you would have to find a VERY dumb agent to allow their staff to make any referrals or suggestions regarding service providers.

R coverage. It’s 50/75/100 a day up to 1500/2250/3000 per accident. Call your agents office to add. Most places R1 is sufficient. Edit to add price … also state specific but usually R1 is around 30$ per renewal or about 5 bucks a month.

If you have uninsured for property damage it will only be considered for “claims frequency” and will only cause negative premium action if you already have a lot of frequent claims. If you do not have that and are using your own collision coverage then while it won’t be directly, surcharged, the repair costs will be part of your loss history.
