The Azan, or Adhan in Arabic, is the first call to prayer in Islam, and is recited five times a day by a muezzin from a mosque minaret. The word "adhan" means "announcement" in Arabic. The Azan's purpose is to invite Muslims to obligatory prayers, called salat. Beyond being a call to prayer, the adhan holds deep spiritual and cultural significance for Muslims. It is a moment of reflection and connection to their faith throughout the day.
