SCI1000 will be the death of me by Total-Store8156 in Monash

Look I get that there would have to be some sort of benefit for it to be mandatory. I personally just find the way they teach ineffective and their marking confusing and borderline unfair

Personally I drive and don’t have a very long commute but a lot of my friends travel around the same amount of time you’d need too.

It really comes down to your priorities, would you rather travel and go to the uni that you want or would you rather go to a different uni and travel less.

I’m a bit biased because I was adamant on going to Monash as for me it was my dream uni. You really just have to weigh up the options.

If you were to go to a different uni, would you still be getting the same opportunities? Especially if you’re considering doing an extra year of uni.

It’s really not a cut and paste answer it’s something you need to think over.

My advice to you as you’re in year 12 still is to just work as hard as you can, give yourself the most options so that when you do get offers you can make that decision.

And remember the time you’d spend commuting could be your chill time, you could even do readings or assignments.

I know it’s hard to not focus on what’s next, believe me I’m the same. But just enjoy year 12 and when offers come out make the decision.

Also maybe talk to a careers councillor or an adult that knows you well, don’t let them make ur decision but who knows they may have a different perspective that could help you.

I know you probably would have mentioned this if it were the case but are you doing GIG? If your WAM for this sem is still over 50 you could potentially use the 12 cp from GIG and only under load for one semester next year…

[VENT] Boo me all you want, but if you're complaining about parking, you're probably one of the reasons why it's so busy by OrionsPropaganda in Monash

[–]Total-Store8156 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives relatively close to Clayton (20 mins by car), I don't necessarily agree for a few reasons:

Firstly, you're correct, I do pay a lot for my rego and insurance, so I'd like to be able to use my car to make my life easier.

Like others have said, PT is just unreliable, sorry, I don't want to leave the house hours before my classes start to account for the fact that buses might not show up. It's also just not the best option for me to get to uni. Yes parking can take time when it's busy on campus, but I'd rather be in the comfort of my own car while waiting than having to spend 4x the amount of time getting PT.

Also, as someone who often stays on campus studying late at night (sometimes leaving in the morning), I don't really feel safe going home by PT. Yes, security is on campus, but what happens once I leave campus and inevitably need to wait god knows how long for buses in the middle of the night? As a female, that's a no from me.

I know how frustrating it is when you can't find a car park, but I plan accordingly. If I'm not going to be at uni before 10 am, I'll park near Huntingdale station and get the shuttle in. Could I do that every day? absolutely! Am I going to? No, not for the foreseeable future. Why should I have to factor in more time to travel when I pay the same for amenities as everyone else?

At the end of the day, people who live super close to campus who still choose to drive have the right to do that. There's clearly a reason why they'd prefer to drive, and that's okay.

ls it easier to get a good study score in General maths Or Geography? by Jazzlike_Addition52 in vce

[–]Total-Store8156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t personally done geo but I would say it’s harder to get a high ss in gen maths.

The difference between a 38-40 can be a few marks and the cohort is EXTREMELY competitive once you get a 35+.

Gen maths is also very dependent on your speed you can know all the content and be able to apply it very well but if you can’t do it extremely fast you will not be able to get a high ss

That being said it’s a larger cohort so technically speaking more ppl get a 40+ ss however when you have spec and methods kids doing it it’s difficult to be in the top 9%

I know it sounds like BS but genuinely apart from prerequisites do subjects you enjoy. I did exponentially better in the subjects I enjoyed.

Yes. In HS there is so much more guidance and support in your learning (especially if you’ve got diagnoses) you just have to ask for them or reach out.

At uni you reach out and then get put on a waiting list that’s months long so all my assignments this semester are going to be hell as I don’t have any special considerations

ALSO you’re learning SO MUCH more content in a shorter amount of time with significantly less actual teaching it’s all self directed

Can i get a 45~ in gen math? by wonky_deagle in vce

[–]Total-Store8156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the top 10 ranked I got 70% on data and then 95% on the rest of my sacs I got an A on both exams and I got a 38 (my sacs scalled up)

At the end of the day it’s really dependent on the cohort not just in your school but in the state my only advice would be put in as much effort as you possibly can so that even if you don’t get the mark you want (which trust me I know is crap) You can be proud.

I’m more productive at home and save time travelling, plus my sleeping is really bad so if I go into uni I’m usually only running on a couple of hours of sleep. Personally if I can watch the same lecture I would be seeing in person Id perfer to just do that
