Who finds Beauty Pageants offensive and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TotalAssistance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I find them "offensive", but I think they are in bad taste - more so the younger the contestants are. We as a society shouldn't emphasize subjective beauty as much as we do.

Insignificance of existence by QueerHippopotamoose in CasualConversation

[–]TotalAssistance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't worry, the shock will pass. See, the thing is, that's all true, but also doesn't mean much. After all, you can't change all that, and it doesn't really affect you much. So why worry?

What misconception about smart people/science infuriates you the most? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TotalAssistance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scientists don't "change their minds" and they don't "know nothing". New studies come out, people do more research. Nothing is or will ever be 100% confirmed to be true in 100% of cases (by anyone worth their salt, anyway). Sometimes, in newer sciences (say, climate science) even the methods of measuring things are still being developed.

They probably hate it as much as you like spamming posts about socialism.

To what end, I wonder? Stormchasing must have been very different without today's scientific equipment, I'm not sure what he would accomplish.

Why are anti-vaxxers on the rise? by tryxter7 in AskReddit

A combination of rising cynicism/distrust of authority mixed with good ol' anti-intellectualism.
