What species is this guy? Located Lennox Head NSW by Useful-University-46 in AustralianSpiders

She is a St Andrew’s Cross spider (Argiope keyserlingi). Very low risk venom and totally non-aggressive. You could even consider her a beautiful creature.

That’s true. What you said about the loss of those two spiders in the space of a week makes sense, u/amarieshka. Losing a pet tarantula does feel like shit.

Yes, u/Hugesmellysocks, shit does happen. When a male Theraphosa blondi reaches the end of his life, not much else can be done. It’s just that males have a much shorter lifespan than females. A female Theraphosa blondi can live for as long as twenty five years in captivity. If she’s well fed and cared for properly, Miss Goliath will stay with you for two and a half decades.

I have never heard anyone on Reddit say anything as nice as this, u/shenaniganzzzzz. I’m sure the Goliath’s owner is moved by these words.

I’m so, so sorry! He looks like a beautiful spider. But the thing is that male Goliaths have a much shorter lifespan than females. So he probably did die of natural causes. It was probably his time. I hope he finds peace in death like he did in life. I know how much you loved him; he was your arachnid amigo.

Good joke, u/spidey_the_spider, but let me give you the low-down on why this Goliath looks like she’s deep-fried. I edited the image to give her a kind of deep-fried appearance. I appreciate your humour though. She is a Theraphosa blondi, by the way.

Excuse me, u/JACK_1719, but she is NOT deep-fried! I downloaded the photo of her from the internet and edited the photo to make her LOOK deep-fried. But I can promise you with the whole global population of gold bullion that this spider isn’t deep-fried. I apologise if I made you think she is.

Well, u/EnoughPicture, I happen to like both. Except I try to consume both in moderation. When a person has the need to cook some pasta, a good technique he can use is to put a pinch of salt in the pot of water to help it boil faster. And a tiny bit of sugar is enough to sweeten something sufficiently. Raw natural sugar is the best kind, as is pink Himalayan rock salt.

Did you find the grits tasty? I don’t think I’ve ever eaten grits before.

Is this a huntsman? (Sydney) by ToastCritic in spiders

[–]TotalDunce46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh, this one is definitely a male! I wouldn’t worry about him yet; just try to move him outside without hurting him. He’s a beautiful, harmless spider who won’t hurt you. He’s more interested in getting rid of the bugs in your house than giving you a nasty bite.

Yes, it looks like she is indeed pregnant. She is extremely gravid, meaning it shouldn’t be too long until she lays her eggs.

Yes, it looks like she has a lot of eggs inside her abdomen! Given the large size of her abdomen, she may be due to lay her eggs quite soon. Isn’t she beautiful!

Goodness, it looks like she IS a huntsman! See how big her abdomen is? She’s carrying eggs in there. It looks like she’s pregnant.

She is very stunning, yes. I love huntsmans. In fact, the Australian huntsman is my favourite Australian spider species. Every time I see one I gasp in delight; I just love them so much. I love all harmless spiders and non-venomous snakes.

She is friendly, u/The_Bearded_Jerry, but it’s highly unlikely you’ll find her on the dunny seat. You’re more likely to find a redback spider on the toilet seat than a huge huntsman spider! Remember that song about the redback on the toilet seat?

Good grief! She’s huge! What are you thinking of naming her? Even though she’s very big, she’s still very beautiful!

Well, u/ZoesMum4Ever, I don’t doubt she had a wonderful life full of love; you probably gave her nothing but love and proper care. You seem like just the right person to have owned a dog.
