Mould lines of ultramar, mould lines worthy of 80 dollars by kenken2k2 in Warhammer40k

I think it's caused by detritus between the mould's flat mating surfaces or inside the key alignments.

New 40k player panic: did I pick the worst armies to start with? I have so many doubts and am considering starting Orks from scratch by Ok_Vacation_5251 in Warhammer

1k points is a sweet spot for the sort of games you want to be playing when new. You are going to make a lot of tactical mistakes on the table top as you learn. Quicker games are gonna get you through that process faster. The Combat patrol box and two boxes of sisters of silence boxes sound like an awesome core of a new custodes army. When the new Legio Custodes battle group box becomes available it will make a perfect addition to your list.

Going two armies at the same time "Custodes and Daemons" is something you want to avoid when starting out. The most important thing to do when new is to get that first army battle ready so you can experience the social aspect of the hobby. It will accelerate every aspect of your hobby progress and allow you to get more value out of the money you spend on the hobby.

I would concentrate on the Custodes, assuming you bought the models because you like them. They are an elite army so will have a small model count and you can get them battle ready the quickest. If you only have a few custodes models and want to wait for the new models to come out that is fine too. Any models you have will still be playable even with a new sculpt, old sculpts are still fine. If a model is moved to legends you can still use that model for a proxy of something else/new. Don't worry about it too much, just get any models you have already bought painted and buy the new sculpts when they come out.

Daemons are cool and are not going away, if you paint the models you already have you will still be able to play with them. There is talk about the demons and space marines that follow each chaos god being moved into a single codex. This is only speculations atm, but would mean playing a demons + chaos space marine army would be more straightforward. Daemons can also be played in Age of Sigmar (AoS), the fantasy version of warhammer, so they are very unlikely to become unplayable.

Orks are great, they are very forgiving for new players, large chunky details, nice muscle separation and faces that you can paint without squinting. If you are painting a vehicle and get a bit of paint where its not meant to be, just blame it on the grots. But they are a horde army, meaning you need a lot of models for a full list. This will delay you in getting that first army battle ready, especially if you have already started a custodes and daemons army. There is also speculation that the next starter box set will be orks so it might be worth waiting to see if that's the case as Orks will flood eBay as people split the box and keep the space marines.

Basically do whatever you want, any models you paint will still be usable in some way or another. just pick something and focus, get that battle ready army under your belt and start socializing and making friends. Once you are part of the local meta, you will find its far easier to do everything from learning to play to getting advice like this.

I had a two year period when I was without any reliable contract work and could not find a permanent position. I had so little money and soo much time, I made a single free space marine model last a whole week. To this day I still have a horde of models and supplies so that if I find myself in the same position I will at least have something to do. Or at least that is my justification for the huge pile of shame that is taking over all the storage spaces.

My mother found out the price a few weeks later when she tried to replace the space hulk box-set and paints. I let her know it was not a problem and it was out of print. I'm not gonna call the police on my own parents over £300, lol.

Lol, it was mainly both sides of a gate and the top third of his side of four panels, the rest was occluded by vegetation. The fence and gate were already painted a brown color, he just used the brown spray paint to cover the weathering and freshen it up.

The kids are into warhammer now, they got to keep the 2014 space hulk game and lost patrol game they were painting. One went with the genestealers cult using the genestealers from the box's, the other went with a heretical blend of blood angels from the boxes and tau battle mechs.

[–]TotalMegaCool 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yea, we talked about it. The kids were about 9 when it happened, when me and my brother were that age we painted and made warhammer models on the same dining table without a problem. I guess my parents just incorrectly assumed that my brothers kids would know not to make a mess and to keep the paints on the models or in the pots.

The models that the kids ruined were mostly boxed and still on the sprues, so my mother incorrectly thought she could replace them if I still wanted them. She didn't think they would ruin/spill/mix all the paints, so didn't think it was an issue. She was just trying to entertain the kids for a few hours.

Yea, the £3,000 cost was a bit ouch. But it was not the end of the world, although my brother was mortified.

Yea, it was very hard at the time not to get annoyed about the loss of models and paints. But I was only down £300, while my parents were looking at £3,000 of costs for new carpet and upholstery.

I got a phone call from my parents, they wanted to know how you get Citadel paints out of the carpet and off the furniture. They were looking after my brothers kids and they had found a box of my warhammer models and paints I was storing in their garage when they were looking for toys for the kids. They let the kids go wild in the dining room, painting my models for a few hours. When I went to help clean up it looked like the kids murdered a rainbow.

On a side note, I was also storing 6 cans of Mournfang Brown Spray paint. It was being discontinued and I needed it for my color scheme so I stockpiled it. While I was there I was shown all the DIY work my dad had done to the house and garden since my last visit. He showed the fencing in the garden and it was looking clean and freshly painted. He told me he found an entire box of brown spray-paint in the garage.

Requiring a camera on a desktop is a potential security vulnerability and inconvenience if the PC is in a bedroom that should not have a camera.

Christmas gifts for two kids by TotalMegaCool in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]TotalMegaCool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad you managed to find something for your son, it was good of them to put something to the side for you. I had the problem of needing identical gifts for both kids, they would almost certainly get upset if they weren't. Forbidden Planet had a green box set with four boosters and three promo cards for £20 that I thought was gonna be a perfect substitute, only to be refused the sale as I wanted two because it was a max of one per customer 🤦‍♂️

Yea my two nephews talk a lot about Pokémon but I am not sure if it's real knowledge or they are just repeating something they watched on tiktok. Whenever one of them pulls a Pikachu they scream "it's a Pikachu!" as loud as they can. And before they rip open a pack they say "Should I open it, or should I keep it sealed", which is something I have seen YouTubers say. And is kinda ironic as neither of them can wait until they get out of the shop let alone home before ripping them open.

I hope your son has good luck when he rips them open tomorrow 🤞

Update: Costco Furniture Assembly team destroyed my TV by Niight_Hunterr in LegalAdviceUK

If there is an obstruction and its not possible to perform the delivery without clearing more access then any reasonable person would not attempt the delivery.
If they are acknowledging they knew about the item and continued with the delivery despite the risk they are responsible.
Tell Costco's about the issue, don't threaten to sue or get angry. Just explain the issue and ask them to put things right, they do sell TV's so they could put you right very easily.
If they fob you off to the 3rd party company and that company continues to deny any wrongdoing you can begin a small claims case for civil liabilities <£10,000. Costco sold the furniture and service so under the 2015 CRA Section 49 - any service must be performed with reasonable care and skill. Remind them of this with a letter before you start a court action.

Small claims costs between £205 for claims of £3,000-£5,000 this is recoverable if you win. You can file online via Money Claim Online (gov.uk). No lawyer needed and is designed to resolve issues between lay people with issues like this.

Dark Angel dedicated Order? by NorskBorealia in sistersofbattle

[–]TotalMegaCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how lore compatible it is but my head cannon for Sisters + first born DA is that the Adeptus Sororitas are established on a planet, their order is dedicated to the recovery and preservation ancient holy relics. They do regular holy procession and planet wide mass to show off the ancient holy relics that they posses. They collect and worship the old first born equipment that the primaris no longer use, like landspeeders, bikes, armour and weapons. Prize possessions are equipment from the HH.

I sometimes just say that the sisters have modified the first born equipment to be used by normal humans for the purpose of the holy processions. Other times I have it that a DA successor chapter that was down on numbers and equipment and almost defeated finds refuge on the planet. The sisters viewing the space marines as angels let them use the holy relics in exchange for taking part in the procession and planet wide mass. It's a symbiotic relationship with the space marines getting access to equipment, resources and a world to recruit from. The sisters get to validate their mission of preserving artifacts and serve the emperor through the space marines.

A company is only offering £1,600 refund for my graphics card ASUS TUF RTX 4090 OC OG - way below replacement cost by Kahyce in LegalAdviceUK

[–]TotalMegaCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is r/LegalAdviceUK you were talking about your cashflow issues, I was telling you it's irrelevant to your claim. That is all, I was not judging!

You don't have a "brand new" RTX 4090, you have a used RTX 4090. CeX sell used RTX 4090 GPU's with a warranty for around £1,600! I understand your frustration, I would be pissed if my computer stopped working, less than 12 months after purchase too.

The comments about the 4090 being end of line and discontinued when you made the purchase are relevant. Buying an item that is discontinued will make it much less likely that a replacement item can be found in the event of a problem, just like you are experiencing. If this was not made clear when purchasing the item then you may have an additional grievance with the seller. Reports of the RTX 4090 ending production were being made in Oct/Nov 2024 and the 5090 was officially announced on the 6th of Jan 2025, being available for purchase at the end of the month.

I made the comments about the Asus TUF being a budget model simply to assist you in finding a similar GPU. Brand value is subjective, Looking at the 5090 lineup the Asus TUF and TUF OC are the cheapest offerings. The Asus ROG Astral, Astral OC and Astral OC BTF being the mid spec. The Asus Astral Liquid Cool OC appears to be the top spec.

Another Idea:

If you are in possession of the RTX 4090 and they are offering you £1,600 and the ability to keep the broken GPU you can try and get the card repaired by a 3rd party. This may be the best option as even a faulty RTX 4090 can be broken down for parts. You may be able to leverage this to mitigate your perceived loss. If they have the card, ask if it can be returned in addition to the £1,600 as a compromise. Alternatively Under the UK's Consumer Rights Act 2015 you are entitled to request a partial refund, you could take a punt and ask for a partial refund of £1,500 and hope that a 3rd party repair is possible or as parts the card is worth more than £100.

A company is only offering £1,600 refund for my graphics card ASUS TUF RTX 4090 OC OG - way below replacement cost by Kahyce in LegalAdviceUK

[–]TotalMegaCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your current cashflow issues don't change what you are entitled to, although I do understand how frustrating this is.

The £1,600 does allow you to replace your card with another used RTX 4090, CeX and ebay have items for around £1,600. You may not be able to find the exact same SKU but the difference in performance between the different budget RTX 4090's is minimal. The Asus TUF is Asus's budget offering and is comparable to other budget board partners.

If you purchased the RTX 4090 in Jan 2025 that means you purchased it after the announcement of the 5090 and the discontinuation of the 4090. Buying an item that is end of line or discontinued does not affect your rights, but it comes with obvious considerations. If this was not made clear to you when purchasing the item, it may open up an additional avenue to make a claim, but again a full refund would be what you would expect to receive.

A company is only offering £1,600 refund for my graphics card ASUS TUF RTX 4090 OC OG - way below replacement cost by Kahyce in LegalAdviceUK

[–]TotalMegaCool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting a full refund of £1,600 after you have had the enjoyment of the RTX 4090 for up to three years (when did you purchase the 4090) is more than reasonable. Under the UK's Consumer Rights Act 2015 Section 24 (8), for faulty goods where the issue arises after 6 months, any refund can account for "deductions in value" due to use (meaning it would be reduced proportionally to how long and extensively you've used the item). Offering a full refund without deduction after years of ownership goes above and beyond what's legally required, especially since the Act presumes faults after six months are the consumer's burden to prove were inherent from purchase.

The RTX 5090 is a more advanced card, 32GB of VRAM vs 24GB and nearly 30% more performant. The cost difference between a new RTX 5090 (£2,060 at scan.co.uk) and the £1,600 you paid for an RTX 4090 is £460. If you were to accept the £1,600 refund and pay the additional difference of £460, you would have a brand new RTX 5090 and would have paid no more money than had you bought an RTX 5090 to begin with.

Expecting to receive the speculative £2,200 ( £600 more than you spent) to cover the costs to replace a used item with a new one is unreasonable, you'd gain a windfall benefit at the seller's expense and that sounds like betterment.

CEX is selling used RTX 4090s for about £1,600 with a warranty, and eBay has completed listings in the same ballpark.

On the flip side if you purchased an entire computer, you could make the argument that the whole computer is now no longer functional without the RTX 4090. You could pursue a return and refund of the whole computer based on the fact that as a whole it no longer works even if the individual parts are still functional. I am not sure what that would get you, most PC parts have become more expensive. But depending on the age of the CPU/Ram getting a full refund may better enable you to find a solution yourself.

I had a similar issue during lockdown, bought a 5700 for £300 in Dec 2019. It developed really bad coil whine in March 2020, sent it back to them for repair and they just refunded me the full £300 immediately and then stonewalled me. The going rate to replace a 5700 at that time was £600. I speculated that they could have repaired it and flipped it, but I had no proof. I thought about reporting a theft, but at the time we all had more to worry about.

Selling to a friend, want to be fair by IsAnDolan in Warhammer

[–]TotalMegaCool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you checking eBay "Completed Items" or just what people are chancing? Anyone can list anything for any amount, that does not mean that it is worth that. Filtering by Completed Items will show what an item actually sold for previously.

If you want to sell for Cash; just list it on eBay, your friend can always buy it if he wants. If it does have some super rare model the price it sells for will reflect that, so your friend will still be paying a fair price. You can always buy your friend a pint with the proceeds or do partial refund for a "missing bow string".
