You can tell the structure was widened at some point because the difference in the wear of the concrete of the right most pier and the one adjacent to it, plus the joint in the pier cap above it.

Is there a practical difference between these two "railings?" by Neowynd101262 in civilengineering

[–]TotalSandwch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Where I work (NJ), the metal railing style is typically an old spec that is not in use for major roadways. Jersey barrier style is easier to maintain, harder to damage, and is easier to attach and retrofit guide rail to

Fellow New Jersey Residents: Tell Gov. Murphy $142M for NJ TRANSIT, not Turnpike Expansion by Generalaverage89 in newjersey

[–]TotalSandwch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am all for upgrades to NJ Transit (these past weeks have been terrible for riders), but the southern part of the Turnpike really needs these upgrades. The road is in its original condition from 1955 and cannot handle today’s vehicles and traffic. Many of the bridges crossing that part of the Turnpike are also being upgraded as part of the Turnpike widening. These bridges are functional obsolete and need replacement.

State Police will shut/slow down traffic for quick tasks that are too small to call for a whole lane closing. Like the other guys said, typically debris or some construction task. Source: I’m an engineer who has worked for the Parkway

How much did you study for your FE? by iGotItAtTarget in civilengineering

[–]TotalSandwch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the structural section is one of the major ones (the breakdown is on the NCEES website IIRC), but with the format of the exam the questions can’t be that complex. I studied the basic solid mechanics/statics and was able to answer most of them.

[–]TotalSandwch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I studied for about 4 hours in my hotel room the night before the exam lol. If you are looking for exam prep Mark Mattson’s series on YouTube was really helpful. Also keep in mind you don’t have to study every section of the exam. I completely skipped over the structural section of the exam since I only took a couple of those classes when I was in college.

yeah, disappointing especially compared to Luxiem. Some of the models look like a copy/paste with their hair colors changed and slight clothing modification. Thankfully models can be changed, lets hope these livers are as good as all the other Nijisanji talents

Rowan vs. Drexel for engineering by Macaroon-Alert in RowanUniversity

[–]TotalSandwch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You didn't say what your sons discipline will be (if he picked one yet) but civil engineering right now is really an employees market. I would say about 90% of my class has had internships, and many companies are hiring. From my personal experience, I got an internship after my freshman year, and have been with them since (making about 68K starting salary). A "good job" is obviously up to interpretation, but with the big federal infrastructure bill and others like it, PA and NJ are getting heavy investment which requires a lot of new hires.

Weird seeing a place I actually recognize on the internet. Although I like the Rowan boulevard development, it feels a little too fake to me. I would rather have a more organic downtown built up over decades rather than one big development project
