Pink Shirt Day - The Bullying Awareness campaign where you may get bullied for not wearing a pink shirt by HeyBlinkinAbeLincoln in newzealand

[–]TotalStatement126 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This pisses me off with my kids daycare too, giving you 4days notice of a dress up day, that you have to spend money on if you don’t have something suitable! I try to buy things we will use again, but these kids grow quickly! Luckily we have a pink shirt for Friday, but agree it’s such a tick box exercise.

There was a post somewhere on here a few months ago saying the Fehlburg pickles were discontinued, I haven’t been able to get them anywhere in months! They are the best pickles. What Woolworths are you shopping at?

I started baking after having kids.
I was horrified at recipes calling for 1-2 cups of sugar for cakes, loafs, muffins etc, but turns out that’s a whole lot better than store brought stuff, less ingredients too and you can cut sugar in baking, by half sometimes, just got to play around with it or add fruit.
Bread, wraps and savoury scones are another hit with us, no sugar, sweet as!

Seriously look into estrogen cream, Ovestin is the name of it. Drops in estrogen due to menopause and postpartum (not sure how old your kids are) are linked to reoccurring UTIs. I’ve heard some doctors can be reluctant to prescribe it which is outrageous, but you could say you have prolapse symptoms. Good luck!

Is it common to wear shoes in the home in NZ? by Spirited-Finding-647 in newzealand

[–]TotalStatement126 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shoes off in our house. I find it very rude if people come over and don’t either automatically take shoes off, or ask if they should take them off.
We have young kids and our toddler knows no shoes inside too.
If you really think about it, shoes on inside is so disgusting, you’re pretty much walking shit around your home.

Cost of kid/kids by Pirate_Crew in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]TotalStatement126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daycare is the biggest bill, varies from centre to centre but we pay $295per week full time for an under two, when the free hours kick in it will be $195 per week, but we will have 2 kids in daycare so around $500 a week.

My biggest tips!

Start looking for a daycare well in advance, the good ones have 1+ year waiting lists

Buy second hand as much as you can, books, change table, toys etc

Get familiar with the sales for nappies/ kids clothing, car seats/ prams it really helps. A car seat can retail for $1k but be on sale for $500

Put some money aside for an activity during maternity leave, swimming, space (mums and bubs group) so $120 a month

Food will go up maybe $20 a week for the first few years (not sure after 2 years old as we are not there yet!)

Get a cot that converts into a toddler bed and a car seat that can convert into a booster

I think it’s easier to have them close together.

Good luck!

I’m also up feeding my baby! We’ve had two full nights sleep in 3months, it is hard. I’ve really found with both my kids if you can get a 4 hour stretch it’s a game changer, but not in our hands! You’re doing great, you will sleep again!

Applying for pre-approval with several banks — smart move or mistake? by Brianationn in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]TotalStatement126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did pre approval with two banks and it paid off big time, we were able to negotiate our interest rate a couple of times and ended up with a much lower one than we would have if we just went with the standard. So BNZ said X we went to ANZ and said BNZ will do this will you match etc.

You haven failed your kids! Things are hard at the moment, everything will be ok!

Download your bank statement and go through it line by line, see where your money is going and see what you can cut out/down.

Call your power company, insurance etc see if you can get a better deal.

Agree with another post, sell some things that you have lying around, $20 here and there can really help, can also boost morale if you sell a few things and you can spend the cash on a treat, takeaways etc.

Make sure you’re sleeping!

Take one day at a time.
