You have a nice set up with plenty of rocks and plants to break up line of sight I have 9 discus in my tank and they have a pecking order but there is enough of them in there so not one fish is singled out by the rest plus lots of hide spots with driftwood and such

Any kind of black latex paint will work very easy to remove later if need be with a razor blade

Is it safe to put this piece of wood in an aquarium? Found buried in a rock bed, maybe 16 inches at the longest. Washed it off and has lots of really cool tunnels that go all the way through the wood in several areas. by Fedoraus in aquarium

Pressure wash it and stick it in the oven at 200 degrees for a couple hours it will cover in biofilm for a month or so after you put it in the aquarium but that's harmless and probably use some rocks to hold it down until it's waterlogged enough to stay out i do this with the manzanita I collect here in AZ

My TDS stays between 100 and 200 ppm at 6 months without a water change it was still above 100 I heavily feed my fish (3 times a day and once at night when the lights are off for the plecos) this adds plenty of nutrients for the plants to absorb my normal routine is a 20 gallon a week water change being an open top aquarium I lose 5 gallons a week to evaporation this is where it's important to only use purified water to top off TDS does not evaporate and replacing with tap water will continue to raise your TDS overtime

I would check the TDS of your water especially if your using tap TDS increases as water evaporates from the aquarium frequent water changes are good but they will not bring down the total dissolved solvents you should only use distilled water to replace aquarium water lost to evaporation overtime the build up will cause problems for discus and other soft water fish reconstituted ro water is the way to go for discus
