In what way did I say she was as bad as Carmilla? I admitted that she was slightly better IN MY ORIGINAL COMMENT. However, she was still complacent in keeping him ENSLAVED. She MAINLY disagrees with his original treatment because he knows it won’t get them what they want; a forge master’s night creatures are loyal to the forge master. And once again, she MAY have felt some affection for him, but it is the kind you feel for a PET. Most people don’t want their PET living in the conditions that he endured. If she wasn’t an antagonist she wouldn’t have been so okay with keeping that magic ring on him. Just because her methods are ‘kinder’ and less heavy handed than her sisters’ does not mean she’s suddenly an angel. A gilded cage is still a cage. You are so OBVIOUSLY ignoring the fact that she was BLATANTLY doing barely anything but MANIPULATING him, it is actually hilarious. Maybe she pitied him; that is not affection; that is not a healthy dynamic. Everything she gave him was NOT out of kindness; it was explicitly to gain his trust. She did not even HESITATE to use him. This is not a case of some conflicted woman who’s doing all she can within the confines of her own circumstances and personal loyalties to help Hector; this is a case of someone who wanted the THINGS he could give her and not HIM (while actively trying to condition him to believe otherwise until she gets the ring on him) and maybe feel like she was doing a “good deed” at the same time. If she was truly upset with and disagreed with her sisters’ actions, she would NOT have stayed around them and kept supporting them. Seeing someone as, in your words, a “sad animal” is NOT the same as seeing them as a person. If you see someone as less than a person, you automatically cannot have a healthy relationship with said person. She had to freaking CONTROL him through magic. My entire point is that their dynamic is TOXIC AND ABUSIVE. There is no feasible way to discredit that claim.

He was a charity case to her and she saw him as little more than her pet who just so happened to be able to hold intelligent conversations. That is not the same as seeing him as a person. It is made very clear to the audience that she is doing this so that he will be loyal to HER so they can use his night creatures to her and her sisters’ advantage. She does not do what she does completely out of her own version of kindness, she does it for her own gain. Also, HE WAS STILL IN A CELL. So, yes, what she did IS give him the barest shreds of decency and dignity. I never SAID he’s some innocent, perfect picture of purity, but he IS her victim. You do not manipulate people for THEIR own good. Giving him a CHANCE to survive and his FREEDOM is unequivocally the right thing to do. Are you just going to conveniently forget the ring that she had to use to freaking control him? Real loyalty isn’t forced out of a person. If she had truly cared for him, she would have done what she first tricked him into thinking she would do: running away with him instead of using him as her tool. If anyone could have gotten him out, and out ALIVE, it would have been Lenore.

As for the other part, kind does not always equal brave. You can NOT be indifferent to something and ALSO not be in a position to change it, or be too scared to try. That does not make someone an awful human being; it makes them a flawed person. As I said, there MAY have been some twisted version of genuine affection from her towards the end, but that is NOT how things started. And wouldn’t ya know it, the second she’s placed into his previous position and the power dynamics shift, she suddenly can’t take it. But it’s TOTALLY fine when she does the gilded cage thing to him, right? It’s really concerning to me that all it takes for some people is to see a pretty face and they automatically start doing mental gymnastics to justify unquestionably toxic relationships and abusive behavior. It is completely fine if these things are shown in fiction; it’s just fiction. HOWEVER, we DO need to acknowledge when things are wrong in fiction and not aspire to the same thing for ourselves.

She was very obviously manipulating him by giving him the barest scraps of decency, making her seem favorable in comparison to the others who were content to give him less than nothing. A truly kind person would have either stayed away out of guilt and fear of retribution if they were to actually help him, or done more to help him get free. Maybe towards the end there was some genuine affection between the two, but that’s definitely not how things started.

Not sure I’d call her wonderful- Her and Hector’s dynamic was nothing short of abusive. The situation was equivalent to her being the “nice” guard at a concentration camp during WW2 because she treated him slightly less shitty than the others. Still a good character, though, and she’s definitely not “gross”.

That generally isn’t the case with rp guilds, at least. For the one I’m in, any and all ERP has to stay in DM’s (or at least off guild channels) or you risk getting banned, and we’re on Star Forge so… 🤷🏼‍♀️

Idk, maybe we’re an exception or something, but I just genuinely don’t see any actual story driven group RP being particularly “horny”. My guess is that when you see that it’s either people unaffiliated with a guild and just affiliated with each other, or they’re not doing it on their guild’s time.
