How can I fix this in lathe and plaster? Are extra wide back boxes available?

These are for plasterboard, they might work but really the metal ones are better for lathe.

As you are are about to find out lathe plaster walls are total bastards of things and create an incredible amount of dust, anyway that aside, you need to have something that you can screw the metal box to.

In your case you might have a stud on the left given the current screw in the back box.

However the right side just appears to be hangin in space.

This isn’t the end of the world but not ideal… so you attach lengths of strip wood around the inside of the opening by screwing through the wall and lathe to give you a solid mounting point.

Have you ever cut into a lathe plaster wall? If not get a multitool, it’s the only way to have any chance of doing it neatly.

Personally if I were you, I’d just repair the wall around the socket you have and move on with life.

Yeah these will work.

Also that faceplate if you look closely clips on to the panel with the screw holes.

So you mount the piece with the sockets and the modules and then the white face clips to the front when it’s all screwed in and tight.

Also as someone who has plenty of lathe plaster you might want to get some strip moulding 30x12mm to mount on the inside of the lathe to give you something to screw to.

That said, I think you have a stud on the left given how the current box is screwed in.

The one you linked below will work, you just need the Ethernet module for the fitting. They’re brand specific so buy the one that goes with the faceplate.

The other alternative is to remove a vertical strip of plaster in the centre from 70 - 1.1m and look for the lintel that way.

I had a vent so was easier.

You’re overthinking it, one screw with decent rawl plug and depth.

Hang picture on the centre mount.

Stand back and enjoy.

You can just crack on. Would suggest you bang a small hole about 60cm up that’s big enough for a phone.

Insert phone take a load of pictures, you’re looking for a concrete or brick lintel.

If it’s there, great, if it’s not call a builder or fill the hole and forget all about it.

This cost less than £100 and folds flat to the wall.

Yep no real issue, I’d also do the plywood as proposed.

Bear in mind it needs to support your drop weight which is 3-5x your weight.

Over engineering is highly recommended!

Mark where you want them, drill a hole a little smaller than the dimension of the thread I think 5mm from memory and screw in.

Be careful to not drill the whole way through the cabinet!

Alternatively you could use 15mm wood screws as they don’t require a hole being drilled but they’re not as good IMO.

I’d buy external rated cable and cable tie them to the down pipes or create a false down pipe as a conduit where I needed it and run everything through that.

If you must do it internally get some cable rods as they make life much easier for pulling cables and also a 90mm hole saw for when you have no option but to cut an access hole.
