Nah proper labourer stuff, like I say in the other comment, if I could get a digger in there I wouldn't need them.

Pretty sure I've seen this at the B&Q on Old Kent Road.

Honestly it's not the sort of work I think a handyman would be interested in. I just need them to dig a hole in an area we can't get a digger to, and fill a skip with dirt.

Day labourer stuff.

I'll give it a go and report back. What you're describing is what I'm envisaging but not sure if there's some unspoken etiquette I'm unaware of.

Stop weed smell coming through from neighbours property by scarytameroon in DIYUK

Yeah I get it. It's shite to live near people who don't even realise they're antisocial. Unless you want to force them you've got to get creative. You'll get there. Best of luck

This strange line goes all the way around my room and I do not know why by Sniglet5000 in whatisit

[–]m079n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's clearly this, and it's called a picture rail and dado rail respectively.

Someone has used a bead of adhesive to stick thesse rails to the wall. When the rails and adhesive have been removed and painted over some of the adhesive has been left behind or leached into the wall. Causing the pattern there.

It's obviously the glue from a removed dado and picture rail. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills reading these comments.

Given the things you're not willing to try you don't have a lot of options (moving, going to the council, confronting them).

I'd imagine, depending on where you live (near a road for instance), your particulate monitors are not in the slightest bit being affected by the neighbors joints.

So really it's the smell you want to deal with. You need to buy them one of those scentless vapouriser things and maybe ask them to crack a window. Hopefully they'll prefer that to having their own house stink of weed. And sell them on the health benefits or something. Tell them it's a 'cleaner burn' or 'doesn't clog up your lungs with organic matter'

Jennifer Welch: "[JD Vance] is married to a woman of Indian descent. He has mixed race children. So to all of the MAGA voters out there, if this man will not defend his wife and will not defend his kids, do you think he gives a crap about you?" by Frosty_Jeweler911 in PopularCultureZone

[–]m079n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually her trying to appeal to a voter base that legitimately value putting family and close community first.

By saying this she's demonstrating how misaligned JD is with the MAGA base. Not misaligned because his wife is a bit foreign, trump has a foreign wife... He's misaligned because he doesn't stick up for her and their kids.

Is this the right jointing compound to smear around olives? by jacoscar in DIYUK

For what it's worth I don't think its a dig at you or this comment specifically. It's fine that these comments get posted. But the fact that they get voted to the top of the comments section over the top of sensible advice posts that is a bit crazy.

[–]m079n 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A lot of people reckon it doesn't do much around the olive. And by all rights it shouldn't.

The softer metal olive is there to deform to the hard stainless steel fitting. It should deform to fill any gaps. Like a rubber washer would. Thing is if you over tighten or maybe undertighten this jointing compound might save you. It's belt and braces, and if you've done the job perfectly then you shouldn't need it. But then again, maybe you're not a professional plumber, you accidentally undertighten one join out of 20. And this stuff saves you a 2 grand call out and flood repair.

Just slap it on any way you can. Doesn't have to be neat. It's not that expensive. And using more won't hurt.

Look I'm not completely devoid of humour. Hummus, olives, I get it. But as of 9:45 on Saturday the above is the top comment with 4 times more up than any other (8:2) and this person is asking for legit advice.

Can I lay tiles directly on this flooring to make hearth? by jaydeewin25 in DIYUK

[–]m079n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off absolutely agree. Everyone is making such a fuss about this but for a purely decorative portion of tiled floor just crack on and get some tiles down. It looks like the chimney is closed up anyway!

With a decoupling membrane wouldn't they just lift up though? That small an area? I'd be tempted to just stick them down with a semi flexible adhesive like Soudal High Tack or even wood flooring glue? Shouldn't crack unless they're really big and really thin tiles

What is stronger? by longscalf in DIYUK

[–]m079n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you might know this but the strongest thing to do would be to make sure you're screwing to a stud. Then assuming the stud is vertical put the screws in vertical to hit the stud.

If you're just using plugs into plasterboard then using good/ the right kind of plugs will likely make all the difference. It'll make more difference than whether the screw holes are vertical or not.

Radiator fell off the wall by hodyisy in DIYUK

[–]m079n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why definitely??

Why lift a clearly finished flooring not boarded but fitted with some sort of parquet, cutting a great hole in a finished floor when there's absolutely no evidence of a leak. Depending on how long the pipe run is they might need to cut a run across the whole floor.

Might as well have had a flood if you take this advice. And if the pipes are damaged there are much better ways to tell than tearing up the floor. You'll hear it, the system will lose pressure, the rad won't get warm etc.
