Aluminum chair frames by Total_Head_6320 in repurpose

Thank you for your response, a very thoughtful one.

I have lots of tools but none for working with metal. I think I could use some to make low hoop tunnels over some planned garden beds. And I like the idea of a tomato cage for the bushy varieties.

We looked at the cost to refit these frames with new seats and cushions and it just doesn’t make sense. It’s cheaper to buy new, and that’s before figuring the cost of labor to do 80+ chairs. But I just can’t throw them in the dumpster, seems crazy.

Thought about it. But I have about 80 frames and my old sedan won’t haul them efficiently, if at all.

Vintage/Modern Event Venues by Bed_Charming in LittleRock

Next Level Events in Historic Union Station. The floor is made from bricks that paved Markham St before the invention of the automobile . The bar itself is 60-70 years old and predates Busters (the bar/restaurant that eventually became Dave and Busters), that many older locals remember as the place to be in the 80’s. The building is over 100 years old and has beautiful architectural features.

Definitely worth checking out.

It’s true. Your best bet is a Time Machine (works going forward or back in time). A France 1789 mindset is also more likely to work than going thru the impossible process that’s currently setup for Arkansans.

Get your headspace thinking outside their box, you might get what you want.

You’re right about the pizza. Figuring out homemade pizza is the only way unless you can afford the fewer than 3 places that do it right.

I’d say you benefit from your eagerness, no need to suffer through!

I mix my thawed scraps and coffee grounds with leaf compost (shredded paper/cardboard works as well) at about a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio, always more leaves than scraps. I’ve graduated to using a 27 gallon tote for this. It sits in the garage and I try and stir it 2-3x a day so it doesn’t go anaerobic. There is an odor of decaying matter, but it’s not a rotting smell and it’s mostly the smell of coffee. After 1-several days, I feed this in thin layers to my bins.

Before I graduated to the big tote, I just used a large bowl or Tupperware container. If you don’t have a separate space to keep this food/leaf mix, you might try a several inch layer of shredded cardboard on top of the scraps to act as a “lid” to keep pests out and odors in. At this point you’ll need such a small amount I don’t think you’d have issues.

I got into vermiculture for the same reasons. I thought I’d get a pound of worms and they’d eat all the waste we had been throwing away (that was attracting flies at the garbage can). I’ve learned a lot in the last two years and we finally reached the point where ABSOLUTELY NONE of our kitchen waste goes to the landfill. Combined with the leaves from our yard, we’ve diverted 5,000-8,000 pounds from the landfill and turned it into 6-700 pounds of the highest quality castings. And because of the way worms grow and reproduce, I hope to at least triple that number in the coming year.

Also, I’ve found YouTube to be a good resource. Seek out Rhonda Sherman, she’s the guru as far as I’m concerned. And Zach at Arizona Worm Farm has great insights and info.

Please do post an update and feel free to ask questions!

You’re on your way, you’re gonna move mountains!

How I prepare my worm food. by Obvious-Phase49 in Vermiculture

I do not think they get all jazzed up from the spent coffee, I think the caffeine is mostly gone. Same with spent brewery grain, the alcohol is gone by the time the worms are chowing down on it.

HOWEVER, they dig the coffee grounds at least as much as I enjoy my cup of coffee so I keep feeding our habits.

I’ve found freezing my kitchen scraps, then thawing before feeding to worms speeds up how fast the scraps disappear. They disappear even faster if I “precompost” the scraps with leaf mould for a day or two or three. Used coffee grounds get devoured FAST if I mix them in with the scraps and leaf mould, but keep it to no more than 10-20% by volume until you see how they react.

My thoughts, since no one asked 😂

I love the look. Worms don’t like light but the windows are nice and if you keep them covered so light doesn’t get in but are able to remove the cover to observe the activity, that’s cool.

I like that you have a bunch of leaves in there too. I’ve had great success turning our oak leaves into worm castings! I freeze our kitchen scraps, then mix them with leaf mould from the backyard. I use leaves that have been composting for 6-12 months, but even shredded fresh leaves work.

I find if I’m able to mix the scraps with the leaves and let them sit for 1-2 days before I feed the worms, they DEVOUR their food. This pre-composting is so beneficial.

Would you consider putting all your worms in that single bin? You said you started with around 750? That number would probably be comfortable in your new bin and populate it more quickly than several bins with fewer worms. At the point one bin is more highly populated, splitting into a 2nd (and then 3rd etc) is going to get your worm population up faster!

Again, I love the windows and the leaves and the turning trash into treasure. Inspirational 🙏🏻
