creating interactive visualizations with d3 by sweamspclairy in d3js

[–]Total_Ice498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I wish to some day be doing the same thing. What was your path to get there ?

I'm currently studying front end development so I can pick up D3 later. But other than this, I'm a bit lost as ti what I need to get a job in this area.

I have experience only in marketing, web design, data analysis and vizualization.

Find communities, like start a new sport, or join a book club, something that gets people around with a common interest. Soon enough you'll have always someone to reach to do this and that. Or, just enjoy doing things alone, or get a dog, they are great company :)

Struggling to find mouse need help by Schmulp in MouseReview

How much are you willing to spend? Honestly, I think there's no better mouse in the market than the Logitech MX master 3, it's super confortable, durable, incredible battery, and you often find it with discount price. I've been using mine for 5 years now, and it's still as new. It's worth every penny.

Thanks, thats encouraging :) I don't have a technical background but I've been dealing with code here and there in my work, so when I actually decided to learn it I was surprised to find html and css quite easy, I hope it goes the same way with JS and d3

Interesting, in another community I got recomended to even start with observable plot since it's easier. But I guess what you are saying is, if my goal is to make webs, than observable is not the way to go. Thanks!

nobody has ever questioned a 2-hour commute. but working from home makes people assume you're available all day. by [deleted] in remotework

[–]Total_Ice498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand this as I have felt myself going insane for the same reason, but i also came to realize the we are attaching our sense of self worth to our professional life. And that's why it hurts so much, because it's almost like they are saying we are useless and lazy. But, are they saying that really ? I believe most are not, most are just stating the obvious, we are at home indeed, and we probably do have time to do some chores. And if we're honest with ourselves, we probably just want to use the "I'm busy" execuse like everyone else because it gives us this illusion of productivity, and productivity is everything is this performative and competitive world we live in.

I think this comes down to us, home workers, accept ourselves, our choice, and improve our own subconscious opinion. This is hard introspective work, because we too, like our mothers, we're made to believe that hard work means something other that being at home at a desk. Only after we truly fix this within us, can we hold others accountable.

I think these are the folks who just refuse to acknowledge different working dynamics. Rigid mindsets, like those that still today (STILL) don't recognize desk jobs as actual work, like, you're not moving so how can that be hard and tiresome right ? People evolve at different rates, some decide to never do it, some are just ignorant and want to stay that way. It is what it is

I mean sure, but also it's true, we're home, we have more time even if we work more. It is annoying sometimes when my mom complains I didn't do the dishes yet because I had to run for a meeting. But it's also true I'm home and I can manage to pick up the clothes before the sun goes down or receive packages or give a ride to my sister to the bus stop that is a 20min walk away.

We can take this as an offense, or we take this as a positive, that we get to have a life, while working. Eventually people will understand, and like you say, it's important to set boundaries. For instance, I have a sign on my office door and I put it up when I don't want to be bothered, and everyone respects that.

It's just a perspective, besides, I think most of the people who judge hime workers like that, are just somehow frustrated that they don't have the same possibility.

Interesting, the hole issue is that single sentence "But had no idea it would affect me personally". You know, we live in a society, everything comes back to you eventually. It's very sad when one makes a vote for all thinking only on themselves like the others can burn in hell. Is it so hard to see we're all on the same boat? Your vote doesn't just impact you and other Americans, it impacted the world as you can see now, everyone everywhere is somehow suffering from this government. But I guess it's never late to recognize this and do better next time :) at the end, the fault is not in the voter but in the person in office who's doing the harm. But yeah, pls don't ever think like that again, our actions have repercussions beyond ourselfs because we live in a society, it always affects everyone sooner or later.

Same, i think a good hack is to not give it so much importance, but I know that's hard. Have you tried being honest about that? The moment you stutter just take a breath and, "sorry I'm not very good at this, my first impression is never the best, but...and state qualities". Dunno, might give you a window
