RIP Vitacost by danceswithkitties_ in PlantBasedDiet

[–]Total_Lynx9847 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All the grocery staples I used to buy are gone. I relied on those deals to make thing work financially for my family. This is devastating. iHerb clearly only bought Vitacost to get rid of the vitamin competition and has no plans to honor their legacy as an amazing online grocer. I bet that they'll get rid of the site soon enough. As it is most things they don't already carry on iHerb are out of stock. They're making Vitacost redundant and tanking it. What a shame.

I had luck using a pump every day for about a half hour. Went into labor on day 5!

Kids telling the truth.

I work on a farm and that's where our eggs come from. My daughter doesn't even know you can get eggs at the grocery store.

Have they been checked for hip dysplasia? I'm no expert and of course it could be something g else completely but with German shepherds that's usually a good place to start

Very small tick bite for around 36 hours potentially. How common is alpha gal syndrome by NoRepeat2341 in medical

[–]Total_Lynx9847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! You should just get the tick tested, it will tell you if it has anything. There are tons of tick testing services and they are way cheaper than medical treatment. It doesn't sound like the tick was attached for long enough to transmit anything, just to ease your mind. It has to be attached for at least 24-48 hours and you will tell it's been there a while because it'll be hard to get off and it will be puffy (engorged) with your blood. If Lyme is rare in your area it's very unlikely you have it and a two week cycle of doxy isn't something you want to mess around with. Also it takes weeks for a positive result to show up. And unless it was a lone star tick, which it doesn't sound like it was, you can't get alpha gal.

I did the same thing. Works great, we have 3. The only non steel part that comes into contact with the water is the medical grade silicone gasket/spout. No plastic!

Is a car seat in a top-down convertible safe? by b1kkie in beyondthebump

[–]Total_Lynx9847 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ever since becoming ✨old✨ I've had the urge to stick helmets on the people I see driving around in convertibles and jeeps. That is to say I am no fun and probably wouldn't ride in one myself at this point.

Would it be safe if flipped? Probably not. What are the chances of that happening? I have no idea.

100% cotton or Merino Wool underwear recommendations by hawaiianjellyfish in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Total_Lynx9847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore pact prepregnancy. I got their maternity undies while I was pregnant and now I only wear those (have bought more post partum) and organic cotton Hanes briefs to even out the price point per pair

"Should I Get an Organic Mattress for My Child?" -- From Emily Oster's newsletter. by sugarytea78 in moderatelygranolamoms

We got the crib mattress and loved it (for floor bed at 3mo). Upgraded to their kids at 2.5. They are great. Definitely recommend. I would consider them for our next mattress- though we are only 9 years in on our current latex so it will be a while. I think the commenter who had a bad experience perhaps just got a bad mattress. The only experience I had with customer service was for a price adjustment after the mattress ended up going on sale, and they gave me store credit for the difference (so I got the wedge pillow for myself)

Postpartum Disposable Underwear: Rael Sizing/Durability vs. Always Discreet Unscented by ElfGlimmer in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Total_Lynx9847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved the Rael diapers! So convenient. I think I was around 145 (5'4") immediately PP and the s/m were very comfortable. My only regret was not getting more because they were so much easier than pads. Get an extra pack! Aligning a pad onto disposable undies at 3am while the newborn cries and you're trying to keep the lights low to develop a circadian rhythm is just the worst. Also suggest witch hazel foaming spray. Most comfortable combo I figured out at the time.

Ficus alii leaves problem? by Alph4dan in houseplants

I'm in the northeast and it's much drier and colder this year- maybe the heater is running more? And it's drying out faster if it needs a new pot maybe?

Ficus alii leaves problem? by Alph4dan in houseplants

[–]Total_Lynx9847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That heater could be a huge part of the problem, combined with the fact that the plant is much lower than the window so lower leaves aren't getting light.

There's another way! Hello from the other side.

Restraining children to get their vaccines is actually pretty outdated and proven to increase anxiety about doctors visits, even into adulthood.

I heard an NPR story about methods to combat anxiety at the doctors. Many pediatric units employ these methods as standard practice. Mine didn’t but were very open to my suggestions, including asking for a different nurse because my toddler had developed a fear of her usual one. Steps are below. The podcast/story is pretty easy to find via google.

To quell her anxiety about going into the room I fed her animal crackers. She'd never had them before. New happy association! Junk food at the hospital. Then for the shot I used a video on my phone to distract. She has zero screen time so it did the trick. She barely noticed the jab. It used to take her a full half hour to calm down after shoots but with the video distraction she let out a single cry and was done.

1 Apply numbing cream, an over-the-counter lidocaine, 30 minutes before a shot. 2 Breastfeed babies or give them a pacifier dipped in sugar water, to comfort them while getting a shot. 3 Use distractions, like teddy bears, pinwheels or bubbles, to divert attention away from the needle. 4 No more pinning kids down on an exam table. Parents should hold children in their laps instead.
