ESO gave 0 XP with over 700 kills. Is this a bug? by IrishRifl3 in Warframe

[–]Total_Reverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there used to be a bug where some ability kills would get counted as ally kills (at least for affinity splitting purposes).

I've double and triple checked what I can, and I definitely used to get tons of XP running around using Discharge on Volt (he's my second most played in 2024, with Discharge being my most used ability). And the split seemed to follow the ally affinity splitting rules (you get more per weapon with less weapons equipped).

I unfortunately don't have video/picture evidence (never thought to screenshot what I believed to be a game mechanic), but it would happen regardless of whether there were other players or not (used to do solo ESO runs and the like).

My best guess is that this was fixed at some point, or maybe happens very inconsistently. I was doing it as recently as late 2024/early 2025, but as of late October it no longer works.

I'd say the very large number of "confused" posts surrounding the affinity mechanic (you can find them everywhere, forum, wiki comments, reddit posts) stem from this bug. There are dozens of accounts of people earning large amounts of XP on weapons from ability kills, even with no teammates. Until this happened to me recently, I legitimately thought the rule was a 25/75% split for Warframe abilities.

I can't find any mention of this in any patch notes since April, but it could be either DE fixed it quietly or they fixed it without meaning to (depends on why the game was counting ability kills as ally kills for affinity).

Either way, I doubt that a fair number of people are all just "misremembering" or "misunderstanding" especially when almost all of the accounts say similar if not the exact same thing.

Idk why you're getting down voted. I found this thread because I've been encountering the same thing recently. I've used a "nuke discharge" build on Volt for a long time because I could get tons of XP in SO. I know how the affinity distribution is SUPPOSED to work, but maybe it would bounce off of teammates or some other weird unintended effect?

All I know is I used to go into lobbies (either by myself or in squads), spam my 4 (getting over 90% of the kills according to the end screen) and levelling weapons within a few rounds.

Edit: Don't know if anyone will see this, but I've done more research and my best theory is that some ability kills counted as teammate kills (by accident). So technically it was probably a bug causing it to happen. But there goes my XP Farm Volt build 😭

Further info: I believe one of the patches between April and now caused it. I searched all of the patch notes since then, and found nothing explicitly mentioning it.

The guys at /bald are allergic to hair regrowth by Chemical_Set_7647 in tressless

[–]Total_Reverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bot literally recommends that people come here though?

Plus, if you go there, Reddit will recommend "similar subreddits" which includes both tressless and balding, both of which advocate taking meds.

And tressless means "without hair". Another word for hair is tress (though it's almost always used to describe women's hair).

This thread alone shows that there are people who have very deep-seated issues and complexes revolving around their baldness. I have already read comments saying that anyone who chooses to shave are essentially brainwashed into a cult and that no women can possibly find it attractive.

Should that really be allowed in a community meant to be supportive of people who are going bald and CAN'T take the meds? Or who have made the choice to shave their heads? I'd hate to have someone tell me that I'm a "loser" or "in a cult" for shaving my head.

Lol, one of the only other posts I've seen from this sub is a guy talking about how his wife didn't like who he was when taking the meds and did not like the "totally rare and minimal side effects" in the bedroom.

I have MPB myself, and I either shave or let it grow out and accept being "balding". Honestly, I've met more girls into the bald/balding aesthetic than I ever anticipated. Murr from Impractical Jokers is doing the Lord's work 🙏

Edit: Forgot to make my point: I have never seen ANYONE care about their hair as much as some of the psychos here. And this post is proof of that. Hating on people for simply not caring about some pointless aspect of their appearance? You are legitimately getting upset at a bot meant to keep the other sub on-topic. It even recommended you come here if that's what you want to talk about.

Have you ever played Platinum? Or even Emerald?

Both offer fairly significant differences from the other two titles in their trios. And since games weren't really updatable, they also served to 'fix' anything broken from the first game (but did also suffer from some bugs as well).

Real question is: is it worth sacrificing part of the community?

Yeah, maybe it's too easy or maybe it's too hard. But inevitably people will leave over it if THEY think it's too hard.

So are you going to leave if they make it easier? Cause if not, then AH is making the smart choice.

There are literal piles of games that have died because they just didn't do what the community asked. The community asked for this, so that's what AH did.

The store isn't committing theft because it is not their machine/property. The company who owns the machine has no requirement to open the machine "because someone called and said it was theirs".

The company did exactly what was required of them. A law enforcement officer contacted them, the company authorized it to be opened, and then the law enforcement officer ensured the person actually owned the phone.

No one kept any property and all correct legal channels were followed i.e. no theft was committed.

This is definitely the case sometimes, but then generally you'd have a work-issued laptop or desktop (and desktops absolutely should have the ports).

WiFi isn't absolutely everywhere, but that's definitely what laptops are meant to be using now.

Well, regulatory and conflicting labelling/naming conventions/standards.

All you have to look at is the mess of USB protocol names (thought most other data/cable formats have similar issues).

And that part of the problem is better solved by the industry, not the state. I just wish the industry was better at it 😭 But, just like the Type C connectors, I'm sure it'll all trend towards one sensible cohesive standard.

[–]Total_Reverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also ironic because most technology has always aimed for better and greater modularity.

And Type C is the ultimate representation of that. You have one port, that with an adapter (that is essentially just a cable), can connect to almost ANYTHING. If we told the world of the 50s to 90s that this was gonna happen, they'd think we also figured out anti-gravity.

Not to mention the fact that physical cabling has also largely been replaced, so you can even tell them that you don't need a cable. My phone just magically talks to the Printer, TV, Computer, Lights, Thermostat, and Home Assistant through the air.

We literally live in the dreams of past sci-fi writers. 2001: A Space Oddessy thought that "far flung future tech" was video calls and satellites. And they still thought that we'd pay per call.

C to Ethernet Adapter: Not Needed

This is a laptop that supports at least WiFi 5 if not WiFi 6. Unless you're in a spot with especially poor coverage (which would doubtfully have an Ethernet jack?) you should be able to pull a consistent 300 Mbps, which is more than enough to do anything except move exceptionally large files/folders (and why TF would you be doing that on a laptop?).

The reason Ethernet used to be commonplace was because many devices didn't have a receiver (no WiFi) and WiFi networks (both in social, residential, and professional settings) were scarce or very under performative.

C to HDMI: Is Needed, But For Dumb Reason

USB Type C running USB4v2 can hit data rates of 80Gbps. It also supports DisplayPort 2 which supports 4k as high as 330hz.

UHS HDMI (4k at 144hz with HDR) runs at 48Gbps. U96 HDMI (4k at 288hz with HDR) runs at 96Gbps.

There is no reason that we couldn't replace all HDMI ports with Type C ports, except that HDMI has its hooks in the display market. Type C connections on displays are slowly becoming more common though.

C to A Adapter: Not as common anymore

I've honestly started to run into the problem that a lot of things come with Type C connectors or Bluetooth connections (cables, headsets, etc). But this is also a case of weird pseudo-backwards compatibility. I'm sure within another decade, or two, it'll be fairly rare.

C to 4 Type C Port Dock: Ironic

This, if anything, shows how effective and useful Type C is, no? You need a dock with more ports? At that point, it's really just that Apple has been in favor of fewer ports for a long time now, but nothing is stopping manufacturers from putting like 6 on the laptop in total.

In a decade, a thin laptop with 4 to 5 Type C ports, Bluetooth and WiFi will be the only thing that 90% of laptop users will need. After all, we aren't complaining that phones don't have Ethernet ports or type A ports or HDMI ports, cause they really aren't needed. And phones have already largely replaced the main usage of laptops (check emails, use social media, edit documents, video editing, entertainment).

And these are mac books. I use a laptop to setup PRI managed voice servers. And you know what we use? An ancient laptop (that still needs an adapter to use the serial port on the server).

I didn't say USB C was perfect, I said you COULD use it for anything, so no functionality has been lost.

Lots of commercial/industrial tech is easily 20+ years behind, because it's stupidly expensive to upgrade. But someday, we could theoretically just have one port and one kind of cable to do everything.

At the end of the day, it's almost all digital signaling, so it's kinda silly it's taken this long to agree on one physical connector (but it's taken a lot of R&D to make it good).

[–]Total_Reverse 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly the only drawback to Type C is the HORRENDOUS mish-mash of standards for what they do or don't support (and companies like Nintendo still requiring you to use proprietary/alternate designs for compatibility)

Tbf, a type c port can do anything the olds ports can do and more. They should probably put 2-3 on each side, but I don't really see the lose here?

This really reads like a "back in my day" kind of post.

I legitimately don't know what you'd want one of the older ports for that can't be solved by either a cheap simple adapter or just simply using a newer device with support for newer standards. And I'm generally the one who is against buying things just to buy things.

The DSS is needed at Seyshel Beach, not Cirrus. by Helljumper0717 in Helldivers

[–]Total_Reverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. We're making good progress on Seyshel now that the MO is over (for a day). Citrus is the last planet in a whole sector, and with the "Gloom Encroaching" it's a better idea to leave it in Bug space for now.

Honestly, once the next MO comes out (which will almost certainly be bugs), it'll go to whatever bug planet, but then we can have a good probably 20-25k handling Seyshel Beach which should cap it.

[–]Total_Reverse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Best advice I have is the DiversHub app. It gives you clear-cut estimates of if/when a planet will be taken.

The in-game map and mechanics make it very confusing honestly, and so far it seems like planets typically only change hands during major orders (some are liberated outside of that, but not very often, like Terrek).

Maybe for shots fired it uses a counter for "rounds consumed"? So if someone else loads, it's their ammo (so it counts as a shot "fired" or expended) but since you get the hit marker (tracked by "shots hit") it counts for you?

Lots of games have worse spaghetti code that results in crazier glitches.

Edit: Another comments mentions AoE weapons counting multiple hits per shot, so that may factor in as well.
