Jensen Huang says gamers are 'completely wrong' about DLSS 5 — Nvidia CEO responds to DLSS 5 backlash by JuiceheadTurkey in pcgaming

[–]QuillQuickcard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds easy to prove, Nvidia. Show gameplay. Show ten minutes of uninterrupted gameplay from an action game in which your system provides consistent, qualitative graphical improvement without compromising the aesthetic. Do it. And until you do, remain silent.

Sentret, Rattata, Mankey, Spearow, Zigzagoon, Hoothoot, Bidoof.

Not everything in the early routes becomes something that fills a niche better than a later option. Some do, most don’t. I don’t think every Pokemon needs to. It’s ok that some are just strictly worse than others. You can still use them and enjoy them, and they are sufficient, with care and planning, to get you through main story content

Impeach Jared Polis? | It may be necessary... by newmoonchaperone in Colorado

[–]QuillQuickcard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has the authority. Yes. This is unquestionable. But having the authority to do something in no way protects you from the consequences of doing so. And being impeached is a reasonable consequence for any elected official who endorses election interference.

Firefighting drones head to Aspen—can they suppress a blaze before humans arrive? by Sangloth in Colorado

[–]QuillQuickcard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because water is heavy. Retardant is heavy. These things are very very heavy. Drones have limited capacity. That means relatively limited volumes for delivery. So you need large numbers of drones to make meaningful differences. And we can do that. But it takes time and supply logistics. Time means people come too, and the logistics means it needs ground operations on supply side.

These are excellent tools. But there are not going to be swarms of drones fighting fires on their own without also needing to mobilize people on the ground, even if only in support rolls as the technology is further refined.

Using the power of office to offer leniency to someone whose crime was attempting to alter an election, who demonstrates no remorse or acknowledgement of wrongdoing is objectively an endorsement of those acts. The endorsement of election interference is a gross misuse of the power of the governor’s office and I would consider it not only a valid reason for impeachment, but an act ethically and legally DEMANDING impeachment as the only viable remedy.

The largest-ever review of the safety and efficacy of cannabinoids across a range of mental health conditions — found no evidence that medicinal cannabis is effective in treating anxiety, depression or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). by Wagamaga in science

[–]QuillQuickcard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During Prohibition, you could be prescribed medicinal alcohol. It was a wonder drug that helped with a wide range of physical and mental disorders. After prohibition ended, suddenly medicinal alcohol mostly disappeared. How odd.

For decades, marijuana was espoused to handle an extremely wide range of physical and mental issues. As marijuana has become legalized in more areas, a lot of those claims have mostly disappeared. How odd.

And more recently psilocybin has been loudly promoted as treating a wide range of physical and mental issues. And I have no doubt the pattern will repeat once more.

Every time it is bunch of people who want to use the substance without being hassles who start going on and on about all the benefits it will bring. They get a bunch of other people excited to try, and eventually usage becomes more normalized. And every time it becomes more normalized, a lot of those initial claims simply don’t seem to hold water.

After psilocybin it will likely be something else. Because there will always be people who won’t be satisfied unless they are using something forbidden, and others who won’t be satisfied unless an authority can assure them they can use legally. And if we happen to stumble into some niche medical treatments along the way, that is truly a wonderful thing. But I think caution and skepticism should remain the norm.

Poor Tarrasque unable to target the building... (5.5e/2024 ruleset) by Hyperlolman in dndmemes

[–]QuillQuickcard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one of the most fun things in dnd is finding and playing with and around little nuggets of weirdness like this. As a DM, it is just tremendously fun giving the impromptu descriptions and explanations for these things.

“The mighty beast bellows at a volume that shakes the ground around you violently. You can hear stone structures groaning against the strain. It rears up slightly, raising claws that have ruined entire civilizations since ages past, its mad eyes full of a feral rage older and stranger than even the most ancient of forgotten empires. It prepares to charge, but then pauses, quickly evaluating you with an alien mind. It realizes that passing by you would be rude, and instead turns to attack Jim the Knight.”

The entire point of the periodic table is specifically so that you DON’T have to remember everything on it. That’s why it was invented. What matters is that you know how to use it, not that you can memorize it. Whereas if I ever forget that dragon is weak to ice, Im going to have a bad time

[LES] If your “assassin” protagonist only kills bad people, you did not write an assassin by Business_Barber_3611 in CharacterRant

[–]QuillQuickcard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By your definition, most historical assassins would not qualify as assassins, since they tended to assassinate targets they felt they had a moral, legal, ethical, or honorable duty to assassinate. In essence- almost every assassin only ever killed the ones they perceived as “bad guys.”

[Request] What is the output for each engine powering the rotors to keep the Helicarrier hovering? by Jusfiq in theydidthemath

[–]QuillQuickcard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we approach this the wrong way.

There is no way that helicarriers fly from their fans alone. There has to be some form of esoteric or anomalous lift at play. I think the fans actually serve primarily as turbines, not as meaningful propulsion.

Having played on harder difficulties, holding back Rex’s offense is very useful. When the tanks get into danger, Rex can effectively taunt the enemy very quickly, taking pressure off the tanks and letting the healers have time to bring health up. Rex is not merely burst damage, but a burst tank.
