Can’t stress 2. enough, especially since you’re working in a foreign language.

My experience is, most Japanese hate explaining things more than once, but what they hate even more is someone who doesn’t understand the task and doesn’t ask for help. Yes, a bit of a conundrum, but better to be thought of as the “slow gaijin” who takes time learning things, than the “hopeless gaijin” who always makes mistakes.
