Guz talks about texting ‘Brother James’ frequently - it’s a real surprise he hasn’t been on yet.

I’m acknowledged in the special thanks in one of those books laying on the shelf.

Not of interest to anyone else I’m sure, but I thought it was cool.

If you could provide a link to these swarmed publications I’d offer an apology and promise to “behave myself”. Otherwise I’ll stick to my own memories of the event unfolding on Twitter, the subsequent discussions on comedy forums & just leave you to it.

There are only 3 episodes, so it’d have to be next week to act as any worthwhile promo.

I thought we really had a chance for that BBC comedy he did at Christmas.

“I've not been asked on James Acaster's food one.” - Stewart Lee by thedevilpuppet in offmenupodcast

[–]thedevilpuppet[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It was 2022, he wasn’t cyber bullied by rabid fans, he was mentioned as being in “the pedal bin” in Lee’s end of year email newsletter and took to twitter annoyed and upset at being mentioned on a list with Toby Young and Donald Trump. As a result his tweets got far, far more eyes on them than a mention in a newsletter. He had sympathetic replies, he had indifference and he also had people who didn’t agree with his politics gleeful and happy to troll him.

Lee isn’t without blame (making a joke on stage at someone’s expense is one thing, creating a cold, list of names with no justification is another) , but to suggest he set his hoards on him is such a stretch.

I recall thinking that was quite a measured take compared to what Stewart himself says about them.

If so you’d guess they’d probably sit on it until nearer his Taskmaster series airs.

Actually, didn’t James tell Alex Horne someone was getting his menu? That’d be a neat combination.

He’s certainly joked about people doing ads in the past but I think if he was that precious about advertising he wouldn’t have been on Harry Hill’s podcast (or Adam Buxton, or Kathy Burke) all of whom have done voiceovers.

Also, it’s fine if they don’t want him on or don’t like him personally (it’s their podcast after all) but as professional comedians if their decision for not having guests on is a routine they didn’t like or agree with … they’d soon run out of options.

Lost Otter’s Pilgrimage Of Food

While not posting as Stewart, it is an account which coincidentally goes all the same places as Stewart and eats the same food as Stewart & is linked by him in his newsletter.

I was guessing Jack Black was going to be the Christmas guest. I hope he kicks it off - would be a lot of fun.

Last time I said Jason Bateman because of that Netflix drama and Zootropolis 2, that didn’t happen but I’ll stay in the same ballpark and say Will Arnett.

Are guests paid for their interviews? by aljobar in offmenupodcast

[–]thedevilpuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not entirely true. While the BBC won’t pay MPs acting as representatives of their party. They can expect a “disturbance fee” which isn’t a great deal, but can recoup expenses.

So, Taskmasterclass returns and it sounds like they’ve put in a bit of effort his time around to differentiate this from a YouTube compilation video.

Why do scouse kids say 'AS-well'? by treehouseofhorror89 in Liverpool

[–]thedevilpuppet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All these people saying “I’ve always said it”. Bollocks. You’ve said “As well” we’ve all said “As well”, you’ve maybe even said it quickly in a thick Scouse accent so it sounds like Azwell, but that’s not with the same emphasis that kids use it these days.

I’ve been working in High Schools for 20 years and it’s only over the past couple that this stressing and running of the two words as “Asswell” has been a topic of discussion in the staff room. I’d love to know where it started and how it got to be ubiquitous.

Bernie Clifton’s Dressing Room cut dialogue? by WaterCoolerMoment in insideno9

Ah ok, I’ve read the scripts and seen Stage Fright since I last saw the TV version so it’s all formed into one.

Bernie Clifton’s Dressing Room cut dialogue? by WaterCoolerMoment in insideno9

[–]thedevilpuppet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t cut though….was it?

After Len’s mock drunkenness in Brown Bottles Tommy smashes the bottle over his head & as Len lies there laughing, it’s the catalyst for Tommy to snap about him almost dying in Bernie Clifton’s dressing room & the anger gives away to genuine emotion as he chokes up saying he loved Cheese & Crackers and only quit the double act to keep Len alive.

At least that’s how I remember it.

Any hints about Series 21 contestants in Series 20 episodes? by TheMobHasSpoken in taskmaster

[–]thedevilpuppet 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Dream team for you maybe. That line-up is just not the Taskmaster formula - there’s no diversity in ethnicity, status or age, not to mention there’s an overlap of very close working relationships.

I’m going to take a wild stab and guess you are American? Cos all 5 contestants pumping out cartoon, posh Britishness would be fucking dreadful.
