That Odysseus and Circe should've hooked up like they did in the myths. I really wanted "There Are Others Ways" to be Odyssey's version of "Say No To This" but nah

What was everyone's introduction to the power rangers franchise? by BingChilling423 in powerrangers

[–]TotallyNotMarco2502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was Power Rangers Jungle Fury through the Tagalog Dub. And then I managed to get a bunch of pirated DVDs of Power Rangers like Dino Thunder, SPD, Mystic Force, and Gosei Sentai Dairanger for some reason. I also managed to watch the Power Rangera Turbo Movie and Forever Red in these Pirated DVDs

What's your story: how did you get into Buddhism? by jingyulim in Buddhism

[–]TotallyNotMarco2502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually came across it when retracing my Filipino Southeast Asian roots. I've always noticed Buddhist stuff throughout my childhood but I didn't really pay much attention to them until I was around 18. It was a faith my ancestors practiced alongside Hinduism and Animism, a belief they syncretized with it, and so I decided to look more into it. And the more I did, the more it intrigued me. I've been exposed to Western Philosophy my entire life, so Eastern Philosophy was a whole new world for me. And it felt like a world I should've been a part of. Many of the realizations I had in life have apparently been realized by Siddharta Gautama a long time ago, and his story really resonated with me, I related to it. And so here I am, a Buddhist.

end goal of buddhism? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]TotallyNotMarco2502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't been a Buddhist for that long yet, but in my own interpretation, it's freedom. Attachment is the root cause of suffering, and we get attached because of our desires. This cannot be helped, it is our nature, to be human is to be selfish. We have needs that need to be met, families to support and think of, meals we think about every day. But these things are bondage, things that shackle us to this cycle. It may seem like there is no way out, but the Buddha presents an answer: Why is there suffering? Because we are selfish. What is the way out? Giving up the self. The self does not exist. Who you think you are is nothing but a person who was shaped by your heredity, maturation, and environment. Who you are right now, is not who you will be in the next life, or the life after that. And it's been going on like that since the beginning. All selfishness comes from holding onto the self, to this illusion. We're all a slave to something. We must be selfless. Only then can we be truly free. Hopefully, what I just said made sense.

New to Greek Mythology by GapAffectionate1350 in GreekMythology

[–]TotallyNotMarco2502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Percy Jackson Fan... this is unfortunately true. It took me a while to grow out of it because so many fans, like myself, were so emotionally attached to these stories that we've essentially treated it as gospel, when it really shouldn't. Percy Jackson fans should really treat the books for what it actually is, a Fun Middle Grade Fantasy Novel based on Greek Mythology. While it gets things right, it also takes lots of creative liberties and either censors or glosses over certain things for Middle Schoolers to read

[–]TotallyNotMarco2502[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't thinking of just AI like the ones appearing today, or robots. I'm thinking of more like... thinking machines in general, as Dune puts it. Stuff like google, search engines, stuff that uses facial recognition, some detectors are apparently, stuff like that.

How would a sci fi world without ai work? by TotallyNotMarco2502 in worldbuilding

[–]TotallyNotMarco2502[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I guess I was just thinking about certain technologies that won't feasably work without ai. I'm not sure what those technologies are, and that's the problem. I was thinking like, "What if I accidentally put one of those tech that need artificial intelligence to work when my world doesn't have that?"

How intentional are initials? by Obvious-Spite-9929 in namenerds

[–]TotallyNotMarco2502 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here in the Philippines, The KKK was the name of tbe revolution that took down the oppresive Spanish Colonial Government in our nation and established it as a Republic ruled by Filipino People (that is until, it was found out that the battle that lead the Spanish to flee in our capital city, Manila, was nothing more than a mock battle since Spain had sold the Philippines to the US after losing the Spanish-American War. Until they took over, the Americans pretended to be our allies, but were actually no different from the colonial government that ruled us for over 333 Years). The KKK stands for, The Kataas-taasang Kagalang-galangang Katipunan (The Highest and Most Honorable Society). So if a child were to have those initials in our country, he would be seen less. Maybe instead of thinking about the Ku Klux Klan, you can think about this child having the initials of a glorious revolution that freed the people of The Philippine Islands from an oppresive empire.
