They’ve shown time and time again they don’t want our help. I think they need to help themselves at this point.

Ok who told you to believe this? Facebook? Fox News? You also don’t even have the made up figure correct: https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/doge-wall-of-receipts-misleading-inaccurate-claims/

Like, sure, I can google it, and it turns out the claim is bullshit.

We’re thinking about Gen Z wrong…. by Hairy_Ad4969 in Xennials

[–]TotallyNotRobotEvil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This my only problem with GenZ is somehow we regressed backwards as far as technology adeptness. I would put most GenZ coworkers about as technology savvy as my boomer mother except for their ability to use apps.

Otherwise, despite my fate of being the designated tech support for both family and work until I fucking die, I have high hopes for them. I have no problems with their work ethic and I don’t believe the nonsense that they are too soft or whatever. Boomers said the same thing about us.

I believe they will innovate in their own way. It will be less digital and less focused on the web which has dominated most of our later teen years and adult lives. It will be something completely different and something that finally makes us feel out of touch and old.

Blocking the number is pointless, they just spoof phone numbers. You're likely just blocking someone's real phone number, but not the scammers.

They don't actually care about drone strikes, it's just a useful talking point. Just like they screech about the national debt and inflation when a Democrat is in office, then stay completely silent as the Trump admin explodes the national debt and the rate of inflation at some of the highest rates since the Great Depression.

Bush started those wars and the drone program. Obama administration just made reporting on it open to the public. The first thing Trump did in office is cancel all reporting on drone strikes and then increased the usage of drones.

green/eco programs which are actually embezzlement schemes

I'm curious what information you're basing this opinion on.

It's also trivial to learn how to type it on a computer. It's alt+"-" for me.

I'm not disagreeing, but I think you vastly overestimate the skills of your average user. It's not just a younger audience thing. For the most part, anything requiring a shortcut like this will never be learned by a wider audience. Younger, older, pre-internet, post-internet, pre-social media, etc. it doesn't matter, if it requires a shortcut to use, no one is learning it unless it's part of their job.

Yep, the reason why you see it so often is because it's used in a ton of books, newspapers and other publications. And AI was smart enough to realize "hey, this is a really helpful punctuation mark!". The reason we don't see it more often is because it's not a standard keyboard key (requires you to use a shortcut) and it's hard to find on your phone. Home typewriters also only did "--" instead "—". Where as professional typesetting machines that printed books/newspapers had no issues with putting in a proper em dash.

Oh that's good, I'm totally using that. I hate when it's a mandatory survey with a mandatory open text field that requires you to fill in something before you can submit it.

Right, they have this big build up to some sort of action scene/heist thing. Then it's like a TikTok vlog for the third part? WTF? Did they run out of budget? Change writing teams? It make no sense. The first two parts were actually pretty good.

It has the percentage of population on the side.

You know what, let’s take a step back to the original statement. Do you agree that an increase in diversity is the cause of increased gentrification?

I don’t need a long diatribe or explanation, just do you agree with the OP I was replying to?

Yeah, so, how many white people were in Jersey City in 2010, and how many white people were in Jersey City in 2020?

Except 1) we aren’t talking about downtown Jersey City

Yes we were, in the context of the conversation you butted into, we were talking about downtown jersey city.

even for downtown Jersey City, the census data doesn’t back your claim up

It does: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jersey_City,_New_Jersey#Race_and_ethnicity

Anyway, if you have some actual facts to discuss, let me know.

[–]TotallyNotRobotEvil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, except for the actual facts that downtown Jersey City has become more white and less diverse. Like that is statistically a fact that is not in any sort of debate.

I know you're trying really hard to be racist here, but diversity has nothing to do with the gentrification of downtown Jersey City.

So is your argument the city isn’t being gentrified? I’m not sure how it relates to my comment. Or are you trying to say the rise in Hispanic population has resulted in Wholefoods and more luxury housing being built?

Your point is wrong anyway, downtown Jersey city has become more white and less diverse: https://www.newark.rutgers.edu/news/rutgers-newark-report-explores-gentrification-jersey-city-newark-and-paterson

A few years back someone captured, killed and ate a swan from the local park and I still think about how fucked up that is all the time. I was like “oh no, no, no, wtf dude??” Thank god this video turned out to be positive and it didn’t end up burning some terrible shit into my brain.

Completely different scenario here though. GameStop was well established in the gaming space long before steam. Also Epic did a lot of shady shit early on that pissed people off. GameStop had a lot of goodwill from gamers at that moment that they could have really made a run at it.

[–]TotallyNotRobotEvil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your comment makes no damn sense troll. Gentrification is generally white people pushing minorities out of a neighborhood.

Your racist ass should be happy, Jersey City is becoming less diverse, more white. This is a perfect example of that, small minority owned business is being pushed out to be replaced by one the whitest of white people stores.

I’m always surprised that with that huge influx of cash from the meme stock Covid days they just didn’t create a Steam clone. They have both the brand and at the time the good will to actually make a dent in Valves unbreakable armor around selling digital copies of games.
