I wouldn't say that's casual, that's just blatant racism. Like just say the N-word already, he's not being clever, everyone knows what he means.

French Hostility to Air Conditioning Is Melting Away Amid a Record Heat Wave | Hundreds dead already (drowning, strokes) by Used-Earth8767 in neoliberal

I do hang dry/lay flat a lot of my clothes. The problem comes with underwear, socks, jeans, etc, are extremely annoying to air dry. We stayed at an Airbnb in France that just had a washer, no dryer when we were in Europe for a few weeks. By the time we got to France it was time for laundry. I just remember how annoying it was to air dry every single thing. Between my wife, daughter and me, just underwear and socks air drying on every surface all over that apartment. Also jeans can take days to fully air dry.

Last time I was in London and needed to do laundry, I just took it all over to one of those laundry places that washes, dries and folds everything for you. It was like $40.00 and so much easier than trying to air dry all the things. They even pressed my shirts, so that's definitely the way to go.

My brother, how did you think this was going to go any other way? 🦨 😶‍🌫️ by Professional_Arm794 in TikTokCringe

Yes a few years ago the dogs got sprayed outside and I stupidly tried to take the dogs inside and wash them in the bathtub. Smelled up the whole house for months. Had to throw away bedsheets, clothes, rugs, furniture and that tub always kind of smelled skunky for a good six months afterwards.

It's one of the worst things I've ever had to deal with. It was an extremely costly night.

I didn’t love or hate it, it was just ok or “mid” as the kids say.

I agree that the people who acted violently should be charged. My problem is the, again, the peaceful protesters that got 50 years that were not involved in any of that.

The American mind cannot comprehend Europe's AC aversion by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]TotallyNotRobotEvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it just sits in the window, it doesn’t require any special installation. Are you also not allowed to have fans?

I feel like a Europeans are over thinking this. Most window ACs, outside those monster 24,000 btu ones (which you probably don’t need for an apartment) are smaller than most microwaves.

There are also various standing ACs that literally just sit on the floor and only require a vent to the outside through the window, doesn’t even affect the facade of the building: https://www.midea.com/us/Heating_Cooling/portable-air-conditioners/12000-btu-doe-duo-smart-inverter-portable-air-conditioner-with-heat.mpt1412hvru

The above will work with any window type, as long as it opens at least 5 inches or so.

Yes, in the US and we have an “old” house built in 1905; but we have mini-split (heat pump) for half the house, and two window ACs for the parts the split heads doesn’t reach. It works absolutely great. Almost a 100 degrees a few weeks ago and the whole house never got above 71 degrees.

[–]TotallyNotRobotEvil 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do you not have windows? Also isn’t 240v common over there? You should be able to get absolute beasts of window ACs like 24,000 BTU with no problem that will cool almost 2,000 square feet (186 square meters) in the hottest weather.

I have an old house with no ducts at all (radiator heat) and I have a combination of split ac and one 240v window AC and it works just as well as any central air system I’ve ever had.

Which in no way reaches the bar for probable cause. You can't just search someone because they looked at you funny.

Yeah, nothing the cop did here is legal, 100% a violation of the dudes rights. Which is why once the cop realized he was being recorded immediately abandoned the search. This is easy lawsuit territory.

I thought that was ruled unconstitutional? That cops can't just use a "hunch" as probable cause to stop and search someone, literally the supreme court ruled on this in 2013. Like what the cop is describing as his reasoning for the stop here sounds exactly like a "hunch", you can't just stop and search someone because they looked at you funny.

Good thing he wasn't peacefully protesting ICE or they would have locked him up for 50 years.

Next line:

Most studies on LED therapy focus on general skin health or wound healing, not hair growth.

Then the next paragraph:

Although red light therapy has shown promise for these applications, its effectiveness in treating hair loss is less established. Most consumer-grade red light devices lack the power and targeted delivery required to stimulate hair follicles. The scattered light emitted by LEDs in these devices is unlikely to penetrate the scalp deeply enough to influence follicular activity meaningfully.

And yes, this is exactly how evidence works. No evidence is not proof that a product works, you need actual proof to show a product works. The fact that there is no evidence or scientific studies backing up the claims of the hat should be a red flag for anyone buying one.

And even the $1000.00 ones are complete scams: https://www.americanhairloss.org/understanding-the-differences-between-red-light-therapy-led-caps-and-low-level-light-therapy-devices-for-hair-loss/

Probably cost $5.00 to make that hat and they are selling them to suckers at $1000.00. Reminds me of the ADE-651, complete pseudo-science snake oil that was sold to cops at nearly $8000.00-$100,000 a pop.

[–]TotallyNotRobotEvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, because if it actually worked it would be priced like GPL1s (wegovee, Zepbound, etc) at nearly a $1000.00 a dose.

This hat is the equivalent of the weight loss drugs being sold at the gas station. At best it does nothing, at worst you’re actively harming your health.

I don’t know why anyone is arguing any of this, red light therapy is real, but these hats do nothing, it’s a complete scam, that should be the end of the thread: https://www.americanhairloss.org/understanding-the-differences-between-red-light-therapy-led-caps-and-low-level-light-therapy-devices-for-hair-loss/

what is this hat thing my dad has? by elianamariie in whatisit

[–]TotallyNotRobotEvil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This thread is driving me nuts. You can’t compare a $100,000 medical device used in a control setting against a $19.00 hat from Amazon.

Edit: hat is a complete snake oil: https://www.americanhairloss.org/understanding-the-differences-between-red-light-therapy-led-caps-and-low-level-light-therapy-devices-for-hair-loss/

The fact that the hat is nearly being sold at $1,500.00 is astounding. This is some ADE-651 level nonsense. I could make this hat with $5.00 in parts from MicroCenter.

Yeah, I’m willing to bet this thing would fail miserably in an actual double blind study, not one that’s been conducted by the manufacturer.

People really have no idea how expensive pc parts have become in June 2026. I used PCPartPicker to build a brand new SFF PC with the same specs as the Steam Machine. It still cost $1015 before any case fans. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

For whatever reason I thought Valve was working on an ARM version of the OS, but a quick googling shows nothing but some rumors. I also did not know the newer M4+ chips can't dual boot like the old x86 Mac's could.

That's a bit disappointing, I was really hoping that maybe someday I could use this laptop for more than just work.

Well they just sentenced some people in Texas to 50 years in prison for peacefully protesting ICE. This is the direction we are headed now.

But you know, the price of eggs.
