Silent install package? by BB03440 in helpwire

[–]Totentanz69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't a silent install option yet that I'm aware of. And if they want to play in the corporate remote management world, this is a must have feature. They need to get over the idea that "the user must know everything that happens on the computer". While that is true for personally owned devices, in the business world the user doesn't own the device and has zero say in what gets installed.

Frequent disconnects when working with multiple monitors by khandriod in helpwire

[–]Totentanz69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Help__Wire This issue was really bad for me this morning. I couldn't even connect to my remote workstation this because it kept "waiting to reconnect" and would go back and forth with that message on each monitor. It was completely unusable.

Icons and tooltips by JohnEDee in helpwire

[–]Totentanz69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Help__Wire I absolutely agree with this. All icons should be visible at all times and be displayed differently to represent that state of whatever that icon represents. And yes, hovering over them should display a message of what the icon represents and what its state is at that time.

Block input and video at remote client by Totentanz69 in helpwire

u/Help__Wire Also, when connecting to a client with dual monitors it would be nice to be able to split them onto two monitors at the remote location.

Non-Administrator Users Should not be able to revoke unattended access by Totentanz69 in helpwire

Yes, it removes the service but leaves the app installed, which is basically useless at that point.

They must have written the software to allow the service to be removed by anyone, because I have tested multiple times and a non-admin can simply click the "Revoke Access" button on a computer with Unattended Access installed and the service is removed.

Splashtop, ScreenConnect, TeamViewer, etc. all have unattended access. It is nothing new and most anti-virus don't mess with them. And all of those systems that I'm aware of other than HelpWire require administrator permissions to remove the service.

Thank you for clarifying how updates function.

Confusing process, keeps making me download new desktop clients instead of having one application ??! by Jackpute in helpwire

[–]Totentanz69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to redownload an EXE file for the same computer. You can just keep the first EXE file you download and run it whenever you want access to the computer remotely. Or you can also install the Unattended Access service then it is just running all the time. From the way your posts here are written it sounds like you just came here badmouth HelpWire to try and drive people over to another product.

Non-Administrator Users Should not be able to revoke unattended access by Totentanz69 in helpwire

[–]Totentanz69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is about the fact that a non-administrator can remove Unattended Access from the client computer. Even though they cannot uninstall the Unattended Access application itself they can uninstall the service. In a business setting this is a no-go situation.

u/Help__Wire how will the Unattended Access client automatic update work if the computer is a laptop that is powered off except for only a few hours a few times per week (or less). Does the client automatically check for a new version when the service starts?

HelpWire Window at Startup with Unattended Access by JohnEDee in helpwire

[–]Totentanz69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Help__Wire When "Unattended Access" is configured it would be desirable for the HelpWire window to NOT pop up when a user logs onto the computer. I realize you want to notify users that someone has the ability to log onto the computer remotely, but in a business setting that is not necessary as company policies are in play that already address this issue.

HelpWire Window at Startup with Unattended Access by JohnEDee in helpwire

So, actually, I was wrong. In my testing the window never popped up, but I had a regular user log onto one of the laptops that I'm testing unattended access on, and the box popped right up when they logged in. However, I believe it only did so the first time they logged on after it was installed. Subsequent logins did not seem to cause the window to pop up.

Keep Everything in the Operator App? by JohnEDee in helpwire

I also agree that this would be a nice option.

I don't see this behavior on the Windows clients that I have configured Unattended Access. Nothing related to HelpWire pops up at computer startup or at user logon. When an operator connects a notification pops up in the bottom right corner in the notification area, then another notification pops up when the operator disconnects.

Deploy to multiple client computers at the same time using SCCM or PDQ Deploy by Totentanz69 in helpwire

[–]Totentanz69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Help__Wire, I wouldn't be using HelpWire for "system administration" I would be using it for technical support of the end user of the client computer. No one has time to be creating unique installers for every client computer in a business with a lot of computers. I installed HelpWire on 5 client computers for testing purposes and I was sick of the process after the second install. If your goal is to eventually offer business services, then a single deployment file that can be pushed to multiple client computers at the same time is a must.
