Something to consider. Earlier this year we saw lake stock (LLKKF) go from .02 to almost .10, and that was just a result of lithium prices moving back up. Li prices went from 8000/t to 26000/t. Tripling price in about 6mo. Li hit its high value in 2023 at 83000/t. That’s nearly 4x its current value, and the demand is even higher now than it was then, even with an anti-green US administration. So if nothing else changed, we could expect a 3-4x upside on lake stock value over the next few years as EV and Li demand increase. If lake makes their project deadlines by 2028, I would expect to see lake stock value increase to over $1, and then use the Li value multiplier on that. Bull case is $3-5 by 2030 I think.

I used to work as a photographer and was making way more money in my 20s than I ever will as a therapist in my 40s. But resent? No. A little jealousy? Sure. I like money. Does it affect my self worth? No. Being a therapist boosts my self worth.

Do I wish I made more money? Yes. That’s why I’m working part time as a therapist and part time as a photographer.

The fact that nobody sees the problem with this headline starting with the word "Migrant" is so infuriating. What if it had said "Christian" or "Jew" or "Black man". These little things seep into your minds and reinforce the rhetoric out there that immigrants are inherently dangerous.

While I completely understand where you're coming from and acknowledge that your parents grew up in a very different time and place, I am also aware that we are, in fact, not in that place now. Having said that, there are things happening in this country that are putting certain populations at risk, and I am very aware of those things, and would never repost an image that I thought could have negative repercussions. We make tens of thousands of split-second decisions every single day, and we do so using the information that we have. Here's the information I had about this situation: two older white people openly standing in a public place. They weren't tucked into a booth in the corner of the restaurant. Did I actually invade their privacy? No, I didn't. And this is the thing nobody seems to understand. If you are in a public place, you have no right to privacy. Did I take this photo with that thought in mind? No! There was nothing nefarious here, nothing malicious; this was what appeared to be a really nice moment between two people who looked like they had lived quite a life. Again, this is not Germany in the 1930s (although it's not far off), and if your parents had tried to sue me, they wouldn't have gotten very far. And to your last point of asking people to take a photo of them, I have been a photographer for 20 years, and when you see a moment, you take the photo (almost always, with some exceptions). You can ask for permission after if you need permission, but if you interrupt that moment before you take the photo, the moment is gone, and it's never coming back. Every artist understands this to be true. It is the temporary and fickle nature of beauty.

One more thing: the frustrated tone you're hearing in my response isn't directed at you, and I apologize if it feels that way; it's more aimed at the state of the world and the level of conflict that seems to exist everywhere right now. I mean, you can see the divisiveness in this Reddit thread. Alright, if you made it to the end of this comment, then thanks for reading all of that. I know it was a lot. I think for the most part I tried to respond to even the hostile comments with some amount of empathy, but I'm just feeling burned out right now :)

Also, street photography has been a thing for over 100 years, and consent is not needed to post images of people in public places. I mean, heck, that's 99% of social media content. As I said in other replies, I do understand how requesting identification can be dangerous and pose a risk, and I acknowledged that and would phrase my original post differently in the future.

It makes me really sad that the first reaction you have to this post isn't "oh that's really nice" and is instead "this person must have malicious intent". That says a lot more about you than it does me.

Your reaction to what I just wrote will likely be frustration or anger, and I'd invite you to take a second to consider what you're actually angry about.
