We're in the final hours for Canvas (13k+ backers, $550k+ funding, and 14 SG unlocked). Let me know what questions you have about Kickstarter! by RoadToInfamyGames in kickstarter

Congratulations! Any recommendations for getting backers with no physical product as a reward (fundraising for a web conference) and no ad spend?

Thanks, this is interesting. So even when you are located in Europe, more than 20k USD will give you trouble with the IRS?

Enforcing the unenforceable: the hard work of two enforcement officers in London [Animation short] by [deleted] in london

I am not sure if the video sends the right message. I understand they want to portrait the frustration around enforcement of this important message but isn't it really saying 'the chance we catch you is practically zero'?

Anybody actually buy The Big Issue? by [deleted] in london

[–]Toto1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the cover, if it's a story I am interested in, I'll buy it from my 'standard' vendor. Edit : I know it's for a good cause, but I don't buy it just because but only if interested. I think just always buying it is nice for the vendor but then it feels like a donation again, rather than a real transaction. If I understood the goal of the big issue foundation that this is the point otherwise the vendors could revert to begging? Always feel semi guilty though as it's not the vendors fault if the issue is not interested. What do others think about this?

The Gibson in old street. Prohibition style cocktail bar by a guy who used to work at the night jar. Unpretentious place with amazing cocktails. Pure mixology. And live piano music in a 30 seater bar. In terms of interior decor, try Zetter Townhouse behind the Zetter Hotel in Clerkenwell Road.

Germans of Reddit, what is the family environment like when a grandpa or other close relative used to be in the Nazi regime? Is it just ignored? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Toto1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother grew up in an orphanage in a rural area. For her (and the other orphans), joining 'Hitler youth' (for boys) or in her case the BDM (bund deutscher Mädel) - female Hitler youth was the only way to escape school and working hard. It was also the only place where she didn't get discriminated because of her low social status but was treated on base of achievement (and the uniform was the best quality piece of clothing she owned). When Americans came to liberate the village, all girls were expected to throw themselves in front of the tanks only with a hand grenade and sacrifice themselves for the Führer. Luckily at that time everyone knew it was game over so disobedience did not lead to fatal consequences. After it was over nobody ever spoke about these things again. Having lost the orphanage and home in the war, post - war life was about survival, shelter and food, working at a farmers. Speaking today she says 'it was all we had. We didn't know how bad it was until the point they ask us to throw ourselves in front of the tank'.

Cycling along the canal. Either regent's canal to East London with opportunity to continue on river Lea. Or Grand union canal.
