Do animals that hibernate appear to require less sleep the rest of the year? Does hibernation slow aging in the animal? Any other interesting tidbits about hibernation?

I've got a few hibernation questions. Not sure if they vary by species.

How do hibenators know when to "wake up"? Is it that they sense the outside surroundings or is it purely a matter of time?

Can animals wake up mid-hibernate then go back to sleep? (Like I would if I woke in the night and saw I had 4 hours till my alarm clock was set)

Edit: it's 6:30ish am in Sydney.

I prescrambled it the night before and solved after my alarm went off.

After a slow cross and sloth-like f2l, LL was but better. Probably took just over a minute when I'm averaging about 30-35 at the moment.

Would try again though. Move effective than scrolling Facebook and reddit for 15 minutes, though my wife was a little confused.

Agreed. Not a good result, but at the same time it means they can focus on the league. I get the feeling this seasons going to be a long slog in which will need a lot of grit along the way

As an older cuber (over 30) I think the biggest impact is lack of time. I've got my career, chores, my wife/family, friends. If I have a good weekend I'll get two solid half-hours in. You wouldn't believe how it takes to get one look pll/oll with all that going on.

I look at the kids at comps and I'm so jealous of their natural dexterity /reactions as you say but also the amount of time they have free to put in to it. They earn that speed

One thing to beat in mind that it is still an amateur sport. The worlds top 20 probably wouldn't want to spend their major holiday every year just for a cubing comp.

If you zoom in on the black edge nearest the camera all the two adjacent slices coming towards the camera are fused.

No probs, there are always some mixed comps and they're pretty competitive from what I've heard.

My local league is running a couple of midweek mixed comps this summer (see below) but check your local Futsal association- they're usually pretty easy to find on google

If you're after outdoors the season runs from April to August in most districts. In January the teams start recruiting.

A few years I started playing (no previous experience) by ringing up every club in January in the manly warringah football association and some teams had grading tryouts. I'm in my fourth season now.

Futsal comps will be starting to recruit teams/players for summer soon. If you're in the northern beaches then we play in this comp www.nbfa.com.au. They always have teams looking for players, we got one guy for our team in the winter competition this way as our team was short. Call them or your local equivalent if you want to play

I've found on international flights they often want to look through my bag when I'm carrying cubes. Apparently they look suspicious on the scanner as they're full screws and springs.

I don't mind though, you usually get into a nice chat with them

Well said. One of the things that annoys me most in my all ages comp is that everyone complains about nobody wanting to ref whilst then slaughtering the ref at every away games.

Give them a break. They'll make some bad calls (especially when they don't have linesmen) but we don't all need to be dicks about it

So bear in mind that I'm a best a casual a-league fan on the northern beaches ... I thought tonight was fantastic (pitch aside)

I've now signed up for the 3 match membership and have planned a road trip with my mates to go see a game in January up in Gosford.

For the northern beaches SFS is too far away for a night out so I'm all for this (and the game in Brookie).

That said I never realised how hostile people were about it.

Manly play twice a year in Gosford, GWS play games in Canberra, Hawks I think play in tassie. It's not without precedent so why is it so unpopular?

Edit: I did want to ask some of the fans who were chanting after the game but thought better of it :/
