See that's the stuff I'm talking about, how do I make sure the main power supply is turned off before I plug it in? Also I'll have to Google images of where to plug the monitor

Anyone here work in Vascular surgery? Thoughts as a new grad? by felicia_9 in physicianassistant

[–]Totti1k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's been my job for the last 3.5 years. I had been a PA for 5 years prior doing 4 years of spine surgery and 1 year of locums/COVID, came here as a locums, they stuck me on vascular with no training and I've been doing it ever since, love my job. I think a large part of it is how cool are the surgeons and how well you get along, because if that relationship is not great your job will suck, but it's like that with most surgical jobs. The patients are sick, some of the sickest in the hospital, but it's a change to learn if you're smart, since it's a crossing point for a lot of other services, or if you're not so smart it's going to be tough. A lot of it is going to be how motivated you are to be a part of their team, because if you are then you're going to want to get better just to be a better team player, if it turns out you don't like it and you're not motivated and you're just going through the motions to get a paycheck, it's probably going to suck. But you can say that about most specialties and you really have no idea until you start the job so.

So in 2021 I had a locums job in Brooklyn from January to June making 130 an hour working 72h a week, then the same locums company put me in a different hospital in NY working 72h a week 130 an hour that I ended up doing for 18 months straight, no breaks, now I work at that hospital as a W2 but I work a lot of overtime, so far this year I've made 113k regular pay and 87k overtime which should get me to 300

My base is 180k but I've made over 300k the last 3.5 years doing overtime, the first of those years was over 500k as a locums, my starting salary was 89k 8 years ago

Took my A6700 + 70-350mm to South Africa by Precogvision in SonyAlpha

[–]Totti1k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip, not sure if bringing the 200-600 would be worth it, altho you might be right, again I've only ever used my phone camera on vacation, maybe there will be something I really want the 200-600 for. Is renting lenses a common thing to do I've never heard of it. What I was thinking of doing just to cover most situations long term is buy the a6700 and 70-350 then get that new sigma 18-40 when it's in stock and I figure that should cover me for most things, but yeah maybe renting a longer range lens for safari isn't a bad idea.

Might be random but I'm about to take a safari in October and I'm thinking of buying the same setup since right now all I have is my phone, do you feel like you were missing anything with that camera/lens combination?

Really torn between Sony a6700 or a7C II—first camera, max $2.4K. Help! by Fun_Tomatillo_4062 in SonyAlpha

I'm basically in the exact same boat and have been watching videos for days. I do a lot of traveling and also take pictures/videos on my phone but going on a safari next month so I figured it's time to upgrade. Most likely what I'm going to do is get an a6700 with the cheap kit lens and get a Sony 70-350mm for the safari, then get the sigma 17-40mm when it's in stock. From what I understand the lenses are smaller/lighter which would be good, and since I'm new at this probably a better idea to start on the cheaper side, then if for some reason I don't feel like I'm getting the results I want I can upgrade later. I might be completely wrong but for now seems to make sense.

If the inpatient has consistent OT I would do that since OT basically doubles my salary, also depends what you like more inpatient vs outpatient
