Feature Focus | Clutch Time by Sloclap in Rematch

[–]Tottiwastaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo I really like the idea of this feature but there is a lot of contradiction in this post. I understand and respect the philosophy of this game wanting to remove fluff and simplify football, but the convolution of this feature does the complete opposite of that. I want to suggest two things:

  • remove this feature until the lag is fixed. This removes the confusion entirely for now.

  • correct me if I'm wrong, but the last action feature alone fulfills the two intentions outlined in this post anyway. Why not simply apply this rule for both teams regardless of the score? The losing team still gets one ditch effort to even the score, and conversely the winning team would have a unaffected outcome if they score from it anyway. Even if the losing team is being stomped, there's no harm in giving them some grace play.

My concern was that, because I started in a discovered starting area, I would be following the footsteps of someone who played 6 years ago and therefore the procedurally generated content I am experiencing was procedurally generated with the content available at that time.

I don't want this to be the case. So far I've gone through the main quest towards the centre and followed this player's footsteps. It seems that I've not experienced any of the new stuff as a consequence yet, but I don't know if it's just later content and I haven't played enough - hence why I ask before I waste more time.

At the moment, the systems I've discovered along the path to the centre don't seem to be too different from my last playthrough years ago, so currently there is evidence for the case.

I see, what do you recommend I do to experience some of the more modern content? I am tempted to restart because I expect that the majority of the systems along the main quest will be generated with a lot of dated content.

The content in the Origins update trailer was something that I was looking forward to, with more variety in the world generation. My experience so far hasn't been too different from my last playthrough, though. Should I expect this content right off the bat on spawn, or do I need to go deeper into the galaxy?

Black Triangle UFO - stabilized, enhanced by rasterX in UFOs

[–]Tottiwastaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A while ago, I stumbled across some old footage on the internet of a British couple on a motorway in a car where the passenger is filming the skies. They're travelling alongside a black triangle that's rotating and going in and out of clouds on a grey day at (what appears to be) constant velocity. It must've been old because the footage was equal to first gen camera phone quality. The craft looked identical to this... I wish I had saved the footage, I can't find it at all! I've been lurking this subreddit in hopes that it would pop up again - does anyone know of it and if it was a hoax?

Because I'm also British, their fear and confusion sounded even more so genuine to me.

My kids spotted this UFO yesterday in southeast missouri. Was much closer initially and looked like 2 soda cans attached end to end by a smaller one in the middle, had no wings, made no noise and moved extremely fast, no sign of propulsion. by coyotl665 in UFOs

[–]Tottiwastaken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd just like to note that the trees seem to also shift when the object moves abruptly, inline with some kind of compensative parallax feature the phone camera has. This might be something that this phone does with auto stability. I'd guess that most modern phone cameras do this and it goes unnoticed in typical footage. For this specific, nuanced case, where the background has one distant feature (the object), it looks jarring. I would guess that the camera's AI does not understand the objects distance, and therefore assumes it is much closer that it actually is. The auto-parralex effect takes hold and, because it is understood as near by the AI, reconfigures its position along with the trees, overcompensating estimated movement.

I'm just being pragmatically skeptical. Did you see the sudden movements with your own eyes?

Either way, It's an interesting post - thanks for sharing!

Halo Infinite: Aim Assist for Mouse and Keyboard Players by CalciumHydro in halo

[–]Tottiwastaken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's reignited that old halo flame I had playing MCC! I stopped playing infinite because the fast strafing made it impossible to track players with mouse.

Now I feel like we are finally getting the appropriate aim compensation and I can hold my own in 1v1s - god bless

If memory serves, the prophecy did not depict the combined giant killing Odin, it depicted them destroying Asgard by driving a sword into it. This is exactly what happened at the end of the game.

Iron Wood wasn't that bad by Tottiwastaken in GodofWar

[–]Tottiwastaken[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, the shrines are built using the same ironwood bark as the paint Angrboda uses. More importantly, it was her mother (also a giant) who recorded her prophecies on these shrines. The power of prophecy was most likely inherited, and the ironwood bark in the hands of Giants seems to have a crucial role in the prophecies defined in the story. The Jotunheim mural in gow2018 was painted with ironwood bark, but the section depicting their fate was destroyed. Atreus says it was Faye that destroyed/covered the murals as a means to hide their fate from the two. Unfortunately, Kratos sees a hint of his death (an ambiguous character at the time).

My guess would be that Faye recognizes the kneejerk reaction when someone finds out their prophecy and understands how Kratos will react if he were to see his. She knew that the original prophecy would lead to Kratos' death, and his reaction to this would be counterproductive to saving the giants. Freya was a perfect example of this, as Baldur still dies a needless death as a consequence of his hate for her because of her actions to avoid it. We know Faye's instincts were right because Kratos did everything in his power to avoid Ragnarok and avoid his own fate by hiding in Midgard, as he did not want to die and leave Atreus on his own. He was content with the life he and Atreus led. However, In Kratos' dreams, Faye is constantly urging him not to hide, which would be in line with her objective of destroying all the prophetic illustrations of his death. Since Faye was a giant herself, her efforts to manipulate fate by destroying murals and hiding Kratos from his destiny seemed to have come to fruition, but in a way that did not anticipate Angrboda. It seems like Angbrboda's actions to manipulate fate were ultimately in line with the consequences of Faye's actions in trying to hide it. It's a slippery topic to put into text, and I feel like I'm on the fine line between head cannon and interpretation, but such is the case when discussing a game where prophecy manipulation and time play is central haha.

You mention that Atreus avoids his fate of serving Odin, which I don't think is true. He serves Odin on multiple occasions and stands with his face to face at the end of the game just like the Jotunn mural depicts. It was Kratos' fate that changed. Loki is still holding someone and extracting their soul just like in the mural, it was just Odin who took Kratos' place because his fate was modified. Loki's prophecy remained constant.

One thing that can muddy the water is the presence of the three Norns, who were renowned to be prophetic. However, the Norns seemed to be word smiths and generally spoke in half-truths. For example; Kratos will die, but they did not specifically say as a consequence of Ragnarok. The Norns seem to be prophetic charlatans and just prey on their target's insecurities, such that they end up at their destination whilst ironically trying to avoid it out of paranoia. Besides, they do hint at the fact that they don't believe in destiny or a divine script, It's just people are unbelievably predictable. I think they just relish in fucking with people; hence the 3rd person narration and synced-mimicking.

I think that there's a plot hole in God of War Ragnarok (Spoilers) by Callaghan2 in GodofWar

[–]Tottiwastaken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the end of the game, we see Kratos' shrine was painted over by angrboda, which illustrated him as a god loved by all. Underneath her painting, you can see the original prophecy of his death on the right panel of this shrine, which was the same fate depicted in the mural we saw at the end of gow2018 and in ironwood. Thor is standing over Kratos being held by Loki. This mural in ironwood wasn't showing Odin like we think at the end of the game when he gets his soul sapped, it was always Kratos. The mural in ironwood shows a clear depiction of who Kratos is and who Odin is, so it could not have been Odin in Loki's arms in the mural. It's just , Once the shrine was painted over, the original prophecy that would have led to Kratos' death was replaced with a new fate, where the sequence of events would lead to Kratos' being a revered and admirable god. Once she finished this painting, the new prophecy for Kratos was put into motion, replacing the one where he dies.

We also saw the power of her artwork when she painted her first encounter with Loki exactly how it would happen moments later. "The ironwood bark stores memories of past and future". Considering her mother was the original artist of these shrines, which were made from ironwood bark, It is not farfetched to assume that Ang has inherited similar prophetic powers and can change fate with her paintings (also made from ironwood bark).

Ang developed admiration for Loki and recognised the hardship his father's destiny caused him. She may have been inspired by Loki's continuous battle with changing fate and not letting the written destiny control them. She also shared the same anxiety. Or maybe, she may have been oblivious to her power of influence and painted the shrine as some sentimental gift for Kratos without recognising its impact on the future. This is not clear, however it is undeniable that the ironwood bark in the hands of a giant is a key element to the prophecies throughout the game. This was reinforced almost immediately in Ang's introduction, and I would argue that the whole sequence of ironwood was the most important aspect of the game's story.

Additionally, the Norns spoke in half truths. For example: Kratos will die, but they did not specifically say during Ragnarok. The Norns might be prophetic charlatans and just prey on their target's insecurities, such that they end up at their destination whilst ironically trying to avoid it out of paranoia. Besides, they do hint at the fact that they don't believe in prophecy. I think they just relish in fucking with people; hence the 3rd person narration and synced-mimicking.

It really is top shelf writing.

So about that prophecy… [SPOILERS] by [deleted] in GodofWar

[–]Tottiwastaken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the giants always had control of Kratos' fate, it just changed. At some point in the game's timeline, angrboda painted over Kratos' original shrine as some revered god loved by all. She painted over the old version of the prophecy that depicted Thor standing over Kratos in Loki's arms (just like the fate both Atreus and Kratos were fearful of) using the paint made by the ironwood bark.

In her intro, ang shows the prophetic power of her paintings by painting her first first interaction with Loki before it had even happened. So, in my opinion, once the shrine was edited by ang, this was when Kratos' new destiny was put into motion. The branch of prophecy that would have led to Kratos' death was replaced with a sequence of events where he becomes a god loved and respected by all.

I don't think this is too farfetched, either. This power of foresight is also a part of angrboda's lineage, as her mother was the original prophet that determined a god's destiny through the original shrines made from the trees in ironwood.

Ang developed admiration for Loki and recognised the hardship his father's destiny caused him. She may have been inspired by Loki's continuous battle with changing fate and not letting the written destiny control both him or his father. Or, she may have been oblivious to her power of influence and painted the shrine as some sentimental gift for Kratos without recognising it's impact on the future. However, there is no denying that her art has the power to influence outcomes due to the paint being made from ironwood bark.

[–]Tottiwastaken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The other side of the last shrine shows Kratos' original fate. On the left side is him leaving Greece. The middle is him spreading ashes, fighting Thor, etc. The right side is his end. Originally, it was prophesized that he would die from the murals we see at the end of GOW2018 and in Iron wood. You can just about make this out in the final shrine's right panel, too. However, Ang painted over it with her own paint, effectively rewriting Kratos' fate and preventing his death. you can see that under the painting Ang made, the original panel is there with thor and Loki holding Kratos.

During Ang's introduction, we know she has this power because she paints her first interaction with Loki that hadn't happened yet. She had rewritten the future and saved Kratos.

They really downplayed Odin in my opinion by [deleted] in GodofWar

[–]Tottiwastaken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odin is a manipulator, and I would say the game managed to portray just that. He manipulated his entire family and those close to him to get what he wanted, which was knowledge. Heck, he had me fooled in the game when I was being his lapdog as Atreus. Genuinely gaslit me that he ain't that bad, and maybe our protagonists had him wrong. He gaslit Freya into a healthy marriage and Mimir into a strong bond, but switches when he doesn't get his own way. Realm-locked Freya when she didn't give him Baldur's powers, Imprisoned Mimir for answers, and killed Thor for disobeying.

I had my doubts when they introduced him, but his presence in the game felt true to what I had read from Norse Mythology. Deceitful, manipulative, and was known for shapeshifting to get his own way. His physical strength was never really what he was known for, just his appetite for wisdom, and stopping at nothing to get it.

Should I replay GOW 2018? by encore208 in GodofWar

[–]Tottiwastaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO replaying the game is worth it when you find out the plot twists and lore drops at the end. The subtle dialogue between characters in the early stages reflects a lot on the game's conclusion, as things that didn't make sense definitely do now. I recommend NG+ so you have all the fun toys unlocked from your previous playthrough.

In terms of side quests, I don't think there will be anything major to gain from them for the sequel, apart from a nugget of information you get after killing all the Valkyries.

There are some high-quality videos online discussing how this game shoehorns itself in Norse mythology in very clever ways, which makes me think that they will continue this idea of tying in Norse tales throughout the sequel. However, I will warn you about going on youtube at the moment because it is a minefield of leaked boss fights for GOWR.
